Thread: How to control your pet from the NUMPAD

Well most veteran CHs agree that /tellpet is a nice addition to the game....lord knows we were running out of creative commands to teach our pets. You can only hear "a" spammed over and over so many times before you pull your hair out. Regardless there are still many people out there who do not take advantage of it. So for those who may not know just how to use it, or how to set up macros for your pets....I've made this little run through.

First thing you need to do is train your pet in all the given commands that you have. Once you've done that make a macro that uses /tellpet to issue the command. For instance if your command for your pet to attack is "Kill" just open the new macro box and type in "/tellpet Kill". Make sure to get the capitalization right as /tellpet is case sensitive, that means if you use "/tellpet kill" it will not work.

After you have a macro set up for every one of your pets, go into the Options panel and go down to Controls. From there open up your Keymap (bottom button in the Controls), and locate the Custom tab. There you'll find every one of your macros that you've made so far. To bind a macro to a key simply double click on the macro's name, then push the key you wish to use. Personally I use the NUMPAD since it's easy to get to, and I don't use it for anything else. You can also use combinations of keys, for instance Shift+NUMPAD5, or even Ctrl+Shift+NUMPAD5.

This is how I have my bindings set...

NUMPAD4: Trick 1

Shift+NUMPAD4: Trick 2

NUMPAD5: Come

Shift+NUMPAD5: Stay

NUMPAD6: Kill

NUMPAD7: Ranged Attack

NUMPAD8: Special Attack 1

NUMPAD9: Special Attack 2

This is just a basic of idea of how you can set your's up, there's a lot of room to add on there. You could potentially add every pet command you are able to train to the NUMPAD using the Shift+, Crtl+, or Alt+ combinations. You are by no means limited to only using the NUMPAD to bind your macros, but I find it's the easiest way since the keys are clustered and there's not much use other than camera movement (which I myself don't use).

Hopefully this helped a few people out, and maybe it will cut down on the spamming of "f" and "a"

This is a great help, but I have one question. If a pet say lags (I know this never happens) and you do not notice until you are 80+ away does /tellpet still work? I usually have to shout to get pets attention. If this does work is there a radius max it will work? Can I stand 70 away to avoid agro and /tellpet commands on attack / come / sa1 etc?

Thanks for the information.

I never have trouble getting my pets' attention from 80m with /tellpet. The great thing about /tellpet is that you can spam to your little heart's content and not clog the chat channel. From my understanding about what the DEVs have said, /tellpet is supposed to have a longer range than /shout, now I've never tested this so don't hold me to it. All and all though I've no problems out of /tellpet, other than a few lag issues, but like I said...spam as much as you want with /tellpet.

I've used /tellpet from several hundred meters... had to spam it, but it worked. I was fighting at Ft. Tusken and got killed. My pets were still in the dungeon and I used /tellpet from the gates. It worked just fine for me.

Also just another little tid-bit while on the subject of /tellpet. For those who use Graul/Graul Maulers and the pets that use that same skeletal system, I'm sure you're familar with their habit of running. If you spam /tellpet (Insert your attack command here) like no tomorrow they'll stay put. It's a bug that has to do with them trying to reach their ideal attack distance from whatever they're attacking, problem comes when whatever they're attacking moves into attack, your pet moves back..

/tellpet usually only works for me up to 100m but I've never spammed it much to test over that range. When attacking tough at 80m or so with tellpet they sometimes stop before the get to the target, I thought those days were over, but it's a lot rarer now.

I use a numbpad set-up for my pets and find it extremely useful. Plus it frees up my hotbar for other actions.

Add in the /echo [message] command to your tellpet macro for a bit of feedback. Use color codes to make the text stand out and differentiate one command from another.

I've been using this trick since the start butI use the arrow keys instead of WASD (yes I'm old school) so I have been binding game keys to my control pad for a long time now.It iscertainly a bonus that you don't see any spam in the chat windowand nobody knows what you are doing with your pets.

Oh dear God! What an A** I am for not figuring this out on my own.

When I'm playing I'm always thinking "darn i always vitalize or use equilibrium because I haven't switched back to my attack toolbar. How can I make this work and still have alway my rifle specials?"

I am a dolt!

But thanks for showing the error of my ways, I can finish up that last box before MCH w/ out having to have the above discussion with myself tonight.

Just curious but is this bugged? I tried to use it yesterday and 1/2 the time it worked.

That is a great idea! Now I don't have to waste my toolbar slots.

Yeah!

Nice thread, and very helpful. However, I'm not going to waste time creating this kind of setup when every session of gaming I have these commands fail to work sooner or later and I have to resort to spatial. I'm sorry but if they fix the commands, then, and only then will I try this.

It's really weird that some people are able to use /tellpet, while others have troubles. Personally I've used it on about four different characters who have all had CH at one time or another and had no problems with it what so ever, well for the most part. It must have something to do with certain commands not working. I know one of my friends used the single letter scheme for his pets and /tellpet would not work for him period, but once he changed the commands to actual words he seemd to have no problems. I guess until they take another look at the /tellpet system it just may not work for all people.
