Yes, I LOVE /tellpet.... When it works.

I don't use single letter commands. The commands will work sometimes, but not always. I have no idea what makes them stop working, they just get tempermental or something.

It is very annoying, especially when then others who have never had a problem with it think that you must just be doing it wrong.

I don't use single letter commands, I train my pets with a hotkeyed command and then use the command to tell them what to do.

Yet /tellpet will inexplicably stop working now and then on a pet. It can be working fine one minute and then just stop. I have heard that logging out and back in will fix it for a certain period of time. This is not a viable option with as much as it fails for me.

So, again... even if the only times you personally have seen it fail, it was due to single letter commands or messed up case sensitivity.... that's not the only time it fails.

Just re-read your first post. I can see why you'd get narked with know-it-alls like me going on! My apologies!

OK - change that to a major reason /tellpet fails is because of 1 or 2 letter commands.............

Other than that, I'm stumped since I've never had it fail unless I use short commands (in which case it always fails).

(It's got to be something in the command parsing.................)

I think the /tellpet failing bug with a longer than 2 char command is a fallback to the old training bug, where the pets would forget commands. when mine would stop responding to /tellpet, id use /yell to get me through the fight i was in then retrain the idiot pet Again, and itd start responding like it was its old genious self guess shadow an boxer just have a short term memory bug lol

When logging out you don't have to any more than hit the disconnect button off the control bar (gets you back to character select) and immediately log back in. With a cable/dsl connection this takes less than 10 seconds and doesn't cause the pet to store, but does get the command working again. Hope that helps.

"There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese. "

LOL, out of context, but I love your sig. I dated a girl with that very tatoo hehe.

Just wanted to add my thanks Hypnosan. Great tip. I've used /tellpet since it first became available, but it Never occured to me to use my NUMPAD. That will free up other hotbar keys and seems like it will be a lot easier to use.

Of course, I foresee myself forgetting that I've reset commands to the NUMPAD and getting killed by some rampaging durni before I remember how to make my pet attack

This is a good idea. I may just implement it myself.

I tame my pets with single character commands, except when there would be dupes, then I use words. I have my commands in macros and use them on f-keys along with the radial train menu. I've noticed that single letters cannot be used with /tellpet, with the exception of /tellpet f (follow) which works sporadically. I use /tellpet mostly for roleplaying a pet without people knowing I'm commanding it (ft=follow target, stay=stay/roar, etc.)... so my multi-character commands work fine as long as there are two characters in them. I never have them fail. I think there are certain letter combinations that the game has problems with.

That's a really great tip, Hypnosan. I'm kind of ashamed I didn't think of it beforehand. You inspired me to look at my entire kb command layout, actually.

I have a little problem with the tellpet command too. I would love to use it, cuz I think it is more efficient than shouting and the rest.

I know that you should use two letters at least instead of just one for a command if you want to use tellpet.

However it rarely workds for me. I usually have two pets out. Both trained exactly on the same commands.

When I press the Macro for attack: /tellpet at, what happens one goes for the attack, one doesnt move at all.

Only when I type the normal at for attack, they both run off.

I trained them three times, just to be sure I didnt make any spelling mistake or something, butstill only one reacts to it.

I've found that /tellpet does seem to have a longer range than /shout...

And I've found situations where /tellpet stops working also...

So all my command macros include both

I started using keypad shortcuts for this long ago, and have it setup and have "classified" my various pets into 3 groups so that:

Keypad 1, 2, 3 = /tellpet-/shout attack1, attack2, and attack3

Keypad 4, 5, 6 = /tellpet-/shout heel1, heel2, heel3 (heel being my term for the "follow me" command. This command also works very well as a "cancel last command", "stop attacking", "run away!!!", etc etc command)

Keypad 7, 8, 9 = /tellpet-/shout chase1, chase2, chase3 (chase being my term for the "follow other" command) (normally for setting up the use of special attacks, where you want the pet next to the target)

The 1st pet of a normal pair, and those that are normally out by themselves, are all trained to the "1" version of the commands.

My "2nd pet of a pair" pets are all trained to the "2" versions.

My mounts are all trained to the "3" versions.

I also use the adjacent insert, home, page up, delete, end, page down pad for the special 1 and 2 commands in the same system...so: spec11, spec12, spec 13 and spec21, spec22, spec 23 respectively.

I don't normally have a need for any other commands in combat, so do not have them hotkeyed.

With this system it's absolutely no problem working a trio of pets engaging multiple targets (and I do mean multiples...hehehe) and using the various commands without costly mistakes.

Glad to hear this has helped a few people out. One thing I forgot to mention about the setup is that there are several ways to setup your NUMPAD. One setup I used to have was geared toward controlling multiple pets at once, since the level nerfs to CH I've switched to another layout, but for those that use more than one pet this might help.

Just train the two or three pets that you use in combination with different commands, like for pet one train it with "Kill1" and for pet two train it with "Kill2", just something to make the commands for each pet different. Then simply use the same procedure to set them to your liking of keys as I talked about above...

This is just a little idea of how I used to have mine set for three pets at once

NUMPAD1: Trick1

NUMPAD2: Come1

NUMPAD3: Kill1

NUMPAD4: Trick2

NUMPAD5: Come2

NUMPAD6: Kill2

NUMPAD7: Trick3

NUMPAD8: Come3

NUMPAD9: Kill3

You can see this setup really works well with the NUMPAD because each pet can have his own row, with the basic commands needed to control your pets. Then of course you can go through and add the Shift+, Ctrl+, or Alt+ combinations to add even more commands. This functions nicely because with each pet having it's own command you can control them much better. For instance if you have two pets attacking a mob and Pet1 is taking too much damage, you're able to spam "Kill2" with Pet2 whilespamming "Come1" allowing Pet1 to break off from the attack and get out of that aggro and get healed. Just another little little tidbit, might be a little more complicated than most people want to deal with, but for those that want the best control, and are lucky enough to have full use of /tellpet, this can work really well.

Thanks for reading (doh!)
