Hi,

Is there any point of being Master CH without having at least xx3x Ranger to track nature??

thanks,

Of course there is, with wildlife as prolific as it is in this CU world, the chances of you bumping into what you need by sheer chance are fairly high. Ranger does help though, but their tracking abilities are not increadibly far-reaching.

I used to be MCH + Ranger 3040 + Pistoleer 0440 - or was it 0340? Anyway, I've always maintained that no two professions complement each other as CH and Ranger do. Even post CU -except for combat. Which is why Ifelt I had to give up my Ranger skillsfor Master Pistoleer so that I could beeffective in combat

I really, really, really miss being Ranger. But I find thatI do get by without the tracking skills. But I really, really, really miss being Ranger.

Yeah, I feel your pain. I realized other day (for first time too) that having some Ranger would be nice with CH.. but CH I feel takes too many SP. Might just be me being spoiled But as you said can't have much of a combat profession to go with that combo.

Shame they can't combine Ranger and CH together. It makes sense to me. How often do you see that grizzled woodsman with a pet? Grizzly Adams with that bear and all those other animals, anybody remember that show? I would say a fair amount of 'Rangers' have a love of the wilds (of course) and animals as well.

With the two of them combined, Ranger could now have some combat skills without resorting to taking another combat one just to be able to harvest and do other Rangerly things.

I tried out Ranger with the respec and was very disappointed with area track. The range on it makes it pretty useless IMHO, but then I only messed with it for a few days. It would seem far more usefull to be able to track a *specific* creature or at least give a stinkin waypoint.

I have BH/CH/Ranger 0030

And the area track can be usefull but if you are fighting a lot not realy worth all the skillpoints.

I took up ranger for the mask scent and area track but i am thinking to drop it and use the points in an other skill.

The mask scent is a bit better but also noth worth it when trying to hide from CL65-80 creatures and will give a problem with taming in that CL area.

In my opinion: at the moment Ranger skills is fun to have with CH and semi usefull for finding and tracking lower level creatures. The skillpoints would be better placed in a combat prof. the points realy set your damage back quite a bit.

I think i will stay at this for a while because i think its more fun for me, but not more effective.

Unfortunately it seems that if you want to be a ranger you have to sacrifice a lot of SP, and the skills that go with them. As a former master Ranger, I can't recommend taking up ranger just for area track. While it is a useful skill, it just isn't worth the sp to get.

Instead, you might think about either hiring or befriending a ranger and have them track a baby for you. I did that several times for a guild CH, pre-CU. And I had fun doing it.

I'm very tempted to go back to master Ranger, but I am having too much of a blast with squad leader right now.

From my point of view searching for pets without Ranger tracking is like searching for treasure but not knowing exactly which stretch of beach has the chest buried in it. Lots of fun.

Oh, and I also went the combat way choosing Fencer. The CH armor compliments the Fencer armor and there's nothing more gratifying for me than telling my pets to "kill" and then I step up and make the target lay down on the ground while my pets rip it to shreds. Aaaah. The feeling is good.

I've never had any Ranger skills. I just can't spare the skill points for the Master Scout prereqs and a skill that gives no combat proficiency. But I am getting along well enough. It's frustrating to not be able to view creatures' stats the way rangers do, especially with CH'sability to view resistances and special attacks as broken as they are now. But I am finding tameables without Area Track. It just takes me longer, but it still is fun in it's own way. More like a journey of discovery. And a friend of mine who does have Ranger tells me the range on Area Track (only 500 meters or so) isn't anything special. With that, I am almost as functional just using my Tab key to target the creatures that spawn around me.

But pets make a nice complement for me as a strong combatant. Now, if only the devs would getting around to fixing their broken specials and invisible resistances....

Well, after the CU rangers don't see anything more than anyone else (at least with scout since I've never dropped that) on the creature's stats. Maybe that has changed...

500m radius isn't a bad thing. That equals 1km diameter. Areatrack, when used correctly, was a very useful skill. Like I said, though, I wouldn't recommend spending the sp for it. Unless you just like being a ranger.
