Thread: Pet levels and xp per kill how does it work?

I'm leveling up CH in the background whilst doing elite combat professions. I'm finding some strange results in the xp I am getting from killing a variety of creatures. I'm tanking myself so the pet can just get a hit in to get the xp. Does anyone have any information about how a pets cl and a targets cl generate xp? Basically I'm trying to figure out which pet I need to use on which targets to maximise my xp gain.

I have an exampleto explain what I mean:

Stadard Quenkers - cl23.

If I use my 5(10) gurreck gets 231xp per kill. I believe when my pet was 3(10) I also used to get 231xp per kill. I'm also pretty sure that my 10(10) gurreck also gets 231xp per kill. This suggests xp is based upon adult levels.

If I use my 18(20) pet I get 249xp per kill.

My friend uses his 16(16) pet and gets 290xp per kill.

This suggests that a cl15/cl16 pet is the optimum for quenkers - which is around 2/3 of cl23

I have seen similar oddities with other creatures - some of the lizards and pikets for example. However, I havnt noted down the figures.

Does anyone have any knowledge about which pets are the best to use for which creatures? Is it always a pet thats 2/3 cl of the target?

For what it is worth, here's my .02:

Last night, I began messing with the different pet levels against a group of Bolle Bols (CL 27). I started with a female razor cat (a CL6 of CL22). I was getting 338 XP. I switched over to a famished sludge panther (full grown CL20) and got 340 XP. This suggested that the optimum level of pet needs to be something closer to 74% of the prey's level. I also tried a female plains tusk cat, and got something significantly lower than 338, just don't remember what exactly (might have been high 200s). I had meant to try the same experiment against fambaas. Looking to try that tonight.

Good hunting...

Well, I usually go rancor hunting for my CH xp, and here's what I've figured. I used to used to usemy CL23(31) Merek Assasin and got around 1600 xp per Enraged Rancor (PER). Now when I use him (CL31) I only get 1200 xp PER. Can anyone explain that one? Then I used my GSP, CL25, and got 1500 xp PER. Most recently, (last night) I used my two Giant Crystal Snakes (both CL16(31)) and got 750 PER. So, in conclusion, I would just like to say that I haven't got a clue about how this works.

I should add that my little Wort (0/8) only gets like 80 xp for the same kill that gets 110 xp for my Womp Rat (8/10).

No, it dosen't make sence, does it.

I have been killing Mos Eisly yard trash with a Womp Rat.

the Rat was 0/10, then 2/10... now 8/10

During the ENTIRE growth cycle I was and am getting 110 xp on Worts and Rills and 100 xp on everything else (Minor Worts and whatever else is there). The occational rock mite that spawns close by gives 130 xp.

I am getting about 1000 xp a minute there when I am on a roll and no one else is killing the spawns. Its fun, actually, in a no-risk, decent reward kinda way. Killer on the fingers, though, as it involves running back and fourth and back and fourth.....

It seems like someone needs to do some more comprehensive analysis of this!

Unfortunately, I didnt do much testing last night! But my cl20 kaadu gets 940xp per slinking voritor and 700 per grassland voritor.

If you post information to this thread - can you ensure you mention the pets cl? The info isnt any use without it!

Ouch...can you say BE pet penalty?

I think this goes back to what I was saying earlier. The adult level of your pet vs. the level of your prey has a good bit to do with how much XP you'll be able to get, though I am less convinced that the current level of the pet has much to do with it beyond a certain point. I saw a similar number difference between my famished sludge panther (CL20) and my tusk cat (CL16) against Bolle Bols. If my theory of the 75% rule (pet is 75% of the prey's level) is even close to being right, then C_Rotius might see a slight gain over his Graul by using a CL28, instead of a CL30, though it might be only a couple of points (assuming that Pikets are level 37, I couldn't confirm before writing this). Can anyone try this tonight and report back? I'm gonna hit Dantooine tonight and try it against the quenkers (similar CL to the Bolle Bols).

for those curious, I'm using www.swgcreatures.com for my CL reference. Not a plug, just a note. If someone has a better site, I'm all ears.

Happy Hunting everyone!
