Thread: 25 Dead...Buried at Deeja Peak...May they Rest in Peace

I have been a Master Creature Handlerfor nearly a year. I did it the old-fashoined way, through weeks and weeks of leveling up. No instant gratification, no token*respec* - just a lot of hard work and dedication to my craft. Out of any profession, this was a symbiotic relationship that far exceeded any dependence on a group - my pets were a part of me. The same for my husband, Iren, who loved his pets with a passion perhaps only a Zabrak would understand.

Theywere killed yesterday by yet another bug introduced bya bunch of greedy corporate clones who only care about pushing more and more crap out the test door and into live. You can flame me if you want, you can laugh, you can tell me *it's just a game* - do and say what you like to me. But I wanted to come here and give a reckoning for my 13 and Iren's 12 - beloved pets who we buried at Deeja Peak last night.

25 dead, including my trusted mount Mowgli - a brackaset I caught on Dathomir and trained from his infancy. Seraphim, my ancient reptilian flyer who had the fearless grace of an angel. Zorro, Zeus, Goliath, Gwenyvar, Ying and Yang, Jr and Snaggletooth (the smelliest rancors you ever got wind of), War-child, Urghala and others named and unnamed. These pets had meaning to us, they were a part of us. They suffer no more.

My husband and I have given up Master Creature Handler now. This bug did what the Combat Upgrade could not do - it droveus away from CH. It was released upon our pets with a heartless*premeditation* that leaves me breathless with scope of it. I wish not to go through it again. They can nerf TKM more, they can bork my weapons further, they can make it even harder for me to fight. But killing my pets on purpose? *shakes lekku* This I cannot fathom.

Perhaps there will come a day when the powers that be will fix this bug...that those of you who keep your pets in limbo on your datapad will once again see them run free and fight with the dignity only a tamed creature possesses. But for Iren and me, we had to end the suffering of our pets. They nowgambol andplayin the final pasture that belongs to all creatures great and small. They will live on in our memories and we will mourn their passing.

To all my fellow Creature Handlers, I bid you adieu.

"You have to give players a sense of ownership in the game. This is what will make them stay--it is a "barrier to departure." Social bonds are not enough, because good social bonds extend outside the game. Instead, it is context. If they can build their own buildings, build a character, own possessions, hold down a job, feel a sense of responsibility to something that cannot be removed from the game--then you have ownership." Well said. Maybe if SOEwould or could seehow passionate a lot of us get about this "game"... naaaaaaa, that's never gonna happen. All they will ever see is $$$$$$

Way to go, Devs.

But hey, they're really sorry.

Maybe it would have meant more if they'd apologized BEFORE throwing this into Live, if they couldn't fix it. Maybe they should have played damage control by stating they were dedicated to getting a fix in for this ASAP and offered some sort of consolation or compensation.

Oh, but nooooooo.....our Correspondent had to gripe in the Corr forums about being ignored for over a week, and our profession forum and the Issues thread had to be slammed with "what the hell is going on" posts, until a Dev finally sauntered in around1:00 in the afternoonCentral time,or so, to say "Hey, we tried a last minute hotfix yesterday but got confused -thought it would work, it didn't, really sorry." If they throw code in that they don't even know will function, or if it will fix an issue, then this game is doomed.

I'm really saddened to read your story, I'm sure it was hard to put those pets down, but they're in a far, far better place now. Find the fun in the game, that's what it's about. Good luck with your new professions!

I have really been surprised at how many CH's I've talked to over the last 24 hours for whom this was the 'last straw'.

It really doesn't matter if they fix the bug quickly, what matters to customers is this was a critical bug that testing revealed, yet the devs pushed it to Live anyway. Customers are not quitting becausse this bug, by itself, is so exceptional, but because the Customer Service attitude that it represents is setting the bar so low that you have to question that you're getting enough value for your money to make it worth giving these guys your hard-earned dollars.

I sympathize greatly. I wish there was even the smallest sign that management in this project was learning from their mistakes. Regrettably, they seem perfectly content to let customers get 'served' in only the most negative sense of the word.

Your pets suffered long enough. You did a nobel and good thing. I may have to put my pets down soon.

Can you post a WP to your graveyard?Perhaps I will do the deed in the same place as a symbolic gesture.

Maybeeach server can have a house set up with gardens and a statue (we can all choose a unified theme) and the memmorial will be in the same spot on each server.

Here lay my pets and my profession finally killed by months of SOE beatings

I want to keep CH...I wanted CH since it's inception early on. Sadly you can only stay with someone who abuses you so long. It is like the battered wife syndrome. "he said he would change" - so she stays - but he never does - and someday the choice to stay is lethal.

Since creature mounts were introduced I've had one. I cannot say I've always been CH, but at least one faithfull sidekick has always run along with me. For the first time yesterday, in ages untold, I found myself pulling an ugly speeder not or group travel, not for the safeguarding of vitality on a villiage run, but because I dare not. I play every day for at least a couple hours, when that realization hit, I think I survived somthing like 30mins online. Its like watching your best friend getting draged be behind a car while your tied up in the passanger seat

People who feel the need to come to a public forum and /cry about a bug in this fashion have a bit of an issue with real life I suppose. If it was done in /roleplay manner then /ignore.

First of all, this is the only place we can go. During both testing and after this went live, we got no feedback at all by simply reporting a bug. Since you are not a MBE as well as MCH, it's obviouse you don't care about your pets as much as someone else would since you just bought yours simply to use and die as weapons.

Now may I ask why you would delete all of your pets? Do you think that the Devs are really going to let it stay this way? Sure they let it go live. If it was for the greater good then I am ok with it. I would rather see 1 Profession get borked and 3 fixed. Am I happy it was one of my choosen that got borked? No, of course not. But I can still play and enjoy the game.

Some of us don't go the way of any combat classes, so it's understandable why your still able to enjoy the game while the rest of us aren't able to do anything. If you have to kill1 classto make 3 overused classes slightly better, it is NOT a solution. Since some BE pets that were set to 1(0) so long ago were never fixed, what makes you think SoE has the inteligence to repair this travisty? Just who's a_s are you trying to kiss here?

The only pets that got wasted this last Publish were my natural ones. Every single BE pet I have is ok. Tomko my lvl 70 Rancor, Fluffy my lvl 62 Kimo, Honey my 50 Razor Cat, and Bludletters my lvl 20 Gurrcat. My "show" pets are still there and I can pull them out in town like I have done for ages.

An example of some of the most overused pets any wannabie always chooses above all others. MCH is just a title to you.

I have always used BE pets as they are, in most cases(ie. Made by a MBE with the best resources and templates), better then the wild caught version.

Like I said, a wannabie MCH.

I must be a wanna be..... I wannabe having fun and I am...I wannabe playing SWG so I am...yeah I am a wannabe....

I have been a MCH longer then you have probably had the game... I didn't respec to it. What I did do was respec away from being a MBE to try out MRM.

Because I like a certain model it makes me a wannabe? My wife uses a level 70 Gnort I made her because she likes that model. Back in the day my favorite creature was a maklok that I tamed on Dath. He was huge. But then he was lvl 75 so no more Maklok named Speedy....

I made the pets I use, the pets my wife uses, and will probably go back to MBE. Just to make you happy I too will make a level 70 Gnort for myself....

You registered 6/6/06...UH...You have not been here to take the beatings for the lastone and a halfyears. They deleted their pets because they don't want to go thru the future agony. Try getting punched in the face for a few years and then come back and we will see if you flinch when someone makes a fist. You just get tired of it after a while. We all want to be MCH's...otherwise we would not be worked up about it...we would just move on.

Of course...it's a bug..they will fix it...that is not the point...Try playing a game where they keep changing the rules for a while...Try scoring a feild goal in a 3 foot by 3 foot goal after you have spent the last 2 years training on a regular goal.

As a MCH MRM MS I have no problems still having fun. Being over dramatic is overplayed....

The whole point about beinga MCH is NOT JUSTabout using BE pets... you're just not getting this are u? *taps u on the head*

It's about the finding, taming, keeping those creatures, be they rare or just becuase you like them. It's about having fun, not just playing "shoot-up".

My second profession is MCM, not just to heal my friends, but also to heal my pets in combat, because I LIKE to play the game that way. Therefore, I can't play until they fix this.

If I wanted to "kick bum" then I would have chosen another profession other than MCH. Have some compassion for other players who have taken badly to this balls up that SoE threw our way.

Hell, your right. I'm new, so my reasons of playing this game, to become a MCH/Rifleman, were cut short when I found you could not use ranged attacks due to a bug. I came around too late to do Respec, so I had to kill several thousand LvL 1-3's to become a CH, which was only the start. When I recieved a token Respec, I respec all my skill from Survival in the Scouting tree to Trapping in the Scouting tree since gaining trapping skill seems bugged. I've mastered CH and Scouting, then decided to go into BE and wait till I am able to shoot from a mount again before trying to master an easy skill like Rifleman. All my pets were natural, so all of them were nerfed, and I really want to use my future MBE skills to craft my custom own Bol. I don't want to simply slap a CL70 together, I wanna do it right.

Your right, I haven't played as long as you, but all the recient bugs was sure one hell of a welcome.

I am sorry you got such a poor welcome...stick around...the people that play the game make it worthwhile.
