Thread: What type of animal gives the best XP?

I have read here that bringing out your biggest, baddest beast is not the best way to maximize XP and I have seen that that is true. For example, I killed a kunga warrior with a graul, I got 920. I killedanother with a GSP and I got a thousand. I then took out my flamer thrower, cooked the kunga until he was almost dead, and sent in a really small pet like a durni and i only got like 230 XP. There is obviously a point where using a smaller pet is no longer beneficial.


Has anyone determined where the "sweet spot" is?

Your pet should be around the same CL as the creature your fighting for optimum points

Thats to avoid someone trying to level outside AH with a kimo

Or to prevent that commando with a big flamer soloing rancors with a dwarf nuna

the best xp i have found is with a pet between 20 and 25... crystal snakes work nice (25)

Im fighting pickets...level 30 with a level 25 GSP and I only get 300 xp, explain that one!

Get a cowardly gurreck, get him buffed. Hunt blurrgs (missions pay 20k) get a couple of buddys to help. They give about 900 xp each. Also bring a bunch of pet stims.

I was a mch long before the Great Patch, but the sweet spot back then was a Cowardly Gurreck vs a Kamurith Defiler. There were ways of getting more xp (killing FS NPC's for instance) but the Defilers have no resist and fall pretty easy. BTW, it WAS 900xp with a CG, 740xp with a GSP, 400-ish with a GM.


Now all that might have changed, but I'd give the Defilers a shot with a lvl 25 pet. Experimentation is a key. Most of the people who are really familiar with this profession have been capped before the Great Patch and have no idea what they would be getting for xp.

The lesson here:


If a holocron tells you you need to become a CH or a BH to walk the path of enlightenment, it really means you're never supposed to unlock the FS slot.

Im happy with my current plan: Enraged Rancors on Dath with a hunting party.


I am there EVERY Night.


I use 1 GSP, I get 1300 xp per rancor, I average 50K xp per night. I am 4433 right now. I only have 260K xp to go so I expect to ding master sometime next week if I can keep my playtime up and do some hardcore grinding.


I really wish I had done this when weilding 2 pets was giving 2 times the XP... you old school MCHs had it easy

I cannot dispute this. The grind to MCH has become much more tedious; and there is a reason: once you get to the top you discover there's very little reason to have made the climb in the first place.

What I suggest is getting a high kinetic armored pet that is a baby and go to the newbe zone and kill chubas. the pet may be CL 6 one day old and you will get 100 xp for each chuba, let the pet attack then shoot the chuba.... next


If you are a nature tamed pet purist, you can use the Merek Avengers, CL 40 full grown, ar1 and 45 kinetic. You can buy one of these for 10k maybe. If you have 50k to 100k you can get a ar1 pet with 60 kinetic that is level 35 ish.

prior to the last patch i had a lvl 6 BE dewback that raked in the xp .... now he pulls half as much xp so ive been using lvl 6 to 10 baby gurrecks and tusk cat, and lantern birds to maximize the xp but they use up a good supply of pet stims. Works really well at ft tusken if theres alot of people around so you can get outa there when stuff gets oot fo control..... and then theres alway Dantooine .... lvl 20 pets rake in xp there too
