Thread: Why is CH a non-combat profession?

Just curious if someone can answer this for me. If a doctor and a combat medic are considered combat professions, it seems like a CH certainly should be.

Creature Handler is a combat profession as your CH skills increase your combat level.
u get CL80 with MCH + any other elite combat prof master.

in the CU documents CH is mentioned as combat prof too - even thou the developmers couldnt give us a specified role. its defined as versatile depending on the pets we use. then i guess at the moment our role is morale support.

The Devs have flip flopped on this issue so many times it makes your head spin.
combat
non combat
combat
non combat

They have no clue on what to do with the class hence the oh lets just classify them as versatile

But, if CH is a combat profession and Doctor is a combat profession then why does the SWG Calculator say my max CL will be 57 if I have:

Master CH/Master Doc/BE0004

Perhaps, I'm misunderstanding how this works?

i m Master Doc / Master Pistoleer and Master CH / Master Pistoleer and both chars are CL80.
so your calculator must be wrong in this case.

Master Medic[Elder Doctor · Elder Pistoleer]@ Chimaera
Master Medic[Elder Doctor · Teras Kasi Elder]@ Gorath
Master Smuggler[Elder Combat Medic · Elder Pistoleer]@ Gorath

Master Pistoleer/Master CH gives CL 80. No Doc required at all.

Oops I missed the "and" So it would seem that his calculator is off or the combo of doc and ch fails to make CL80

Your calculator is wrong. Creature Handler is considered a full combat profession. It gives the full 54 CL like every other combat profession, and we get full Battle Armor mitigation at Master. With MCH and any other master combat prof, you will be CL 80.

I would suggest getting Kodan's SWG Profession Calculator from www.bloodfin.org. Best one I ever used.

That was the one I downloaded. The latest version, I believe with dataset July 9, 2005.

And choosing Master CH, Master Doctor, and BE0004 is returning this for me:

Generated by Kodan's SWG Profession Calculator from www.bloodfin.org using Authentic Dataset: 9 Jul 2005

Combat Level

6520300 Combat Level experience
Combat Level 57

Experience Required

6520300 Combat Level
5900000 Creature Handling
6208300 Medical
190500 Medicine Crafting
156000 Scouting

Hmm... my dataset's from April. I just noticed also it doesn't generate any CL at all with my version... oops. Hah hah...

Well, anyways, it's wrong saying you'd be CL 57. I guarantee MCH is a full combat profession, so unless it's messed up and claming doc isn't, then it probably just needs updated to include CH as a combat profession.

Thanks very much! I wish there wasn't a combat/non-combat determination of levels at all as that seems terribly unfair to people that don't want double combat professions, but since there has to be, I'm really glad this is going to be CL80 and not CL57 like I thought. There was much stomping of the feet and swearing when I saw that at first.

yes, for TRUE combat elite (pistol, rifleman, TKA) you get something like 5-1 conversion CL rate. so with a elite combat profession, you can get the full 54.

with all of the others that are 'conveniently' combat, its like 2-1, or something like that. So, you need to have a 'true' combat elite as well as CH to have cl 80. sorry, thats just the way it is.

ps. I am wrong about those numbers, I just can't remember off the top of my head what the real numbers are.

I tested with Doc/CH and Doc/Rifleman - the first gave me CL57 and the second CL80, using the SWGCalculator.

Rocco suggests that is correct, and Koa - Iri suggests it isn't.

Everyone that put an example has picked one of the 'elite' combatprofessions. Is anyone here currently a MCH/MDoc that can verify either way please?

PS: Why oh WHY would SOE/Lucas design something that sets your level based on your profession rather than your progression? That seems to me like such a good waydestroy professional diversity in your game world. It just reminds me of people picking Warrior or Cleric orEnchanter in EQ just to feel useful in the bad old days.Just my .02

Thanks in advance for settling this.
