Thread: I utterly defy anyone to explain CH xp!

Ok so it's pretty much a given the even SOE don't really understand their own needlessly arcane formulas for a lot of things. Fine. BUT I am trying to get through the neverending grind of CH xp WITHOUT a master combat profession OR a big group to do the killing for me. Is it even possible? Would I just have to fight worrts & rills to get the whole tree?

No one seems to really know how exactly it works, at least SOE has never told us. Some people even get WORSE missions with a pet out than alone. Others get better ones. I get more xp with a weak pet against weaklings than using my best pet against equivalent creatures. Sometimes using a lower level pet agaisnt a stronger foe means more xp...sometimes, less. There is no rhyme or reason. At ANY rate, it's conclusive in one way: it's unintuitive, nonsensical, & stupidly requires lots of guesswork & luck. The best CH are Commandos who use heavy weapons to smoke mega-creatures once their pet gets in one hit. CLEARLY they have decided that CH is a secondary profession at best.

My MAIN question here is that no one knows how multiple pets work w/ xp. I can call up to 2 pets & have max level of pets 35. **edit** would be my best bet?? One level 35 vs. other level 35's? A level 35 against the biggest stuff I can handle? Two level 17's? Against what? 17's...35's...? The Devs have stated that having 2 pets out gives HALF the xp. This was a deliberate nerf to stop the Poke-Wars. YET I hear over & over that 2 pets is the way to go & using one big one is not as fast & THAT'S why I am behind others I see. They claim they did this as recently as a month ago (waaaay after the 2-pets xp machine was supposedly removed).

What's the deal? And does anyone know from an official source or do we have to try to hash it out through guesswork & hearsay?

well i am 2 3 2 3 on ch and use 2 gurrcats. both lvl 8 of 20 at mo. they r fast and strong enough for now. the xp does seem buggered. it makes no sense, but i have been killing low lvl creatures as its quick. i gte about 112 xp shared between the 2 cats. but i can kill 10 creatures in about 20 secs so its quick xp. but a bit boring.

it will come with time, the best thing for you to do is group with higher lvl ch's on dathomir fighting larger monstors or any planet with high lvl mobs, the trick is send your pet in near the end of the fight; or let the big pets get the aggro then send yours in, if your smaller pet starts to get killed pull him back, for engaging on the mob you'll get the normal full xp for that lvl of pet; if your pet survives.

i can't emphasize how important it is to group for lvling ch. the only way to do it on your own, with no combat profession is just as the above poster stated, with low lvl mobs.

and no there is no official statements, its not really that complicated, you get xp for killing stuff, if you use a low lvl pet on a high lvl mob you get more xp no matter how many you use, thats all there is to it =)

I have climbed the tree a few times and yes, I think I have it pretty much figured out. Con each creature, if it has a red dot, you get great exp, yellow is not bad, white is ok, Dark blue is somewhat ok, light blue is crummy and green is worthless.

If you get a CL 7ish pet in the newbie zones killing Chubas, you get about 100 exp, if you use a CL 10 pet, its more like 85, if you use a CL 14 pet its like 60, CL 20 pet, its like 20, much higher and its 1.

Move that whole skale higher... If you fight Bolle Bols, CL 26ish, with a CL 14 pet, you get like 250.

I was using a CL 14 Kaduu that was BE made, so it was beefed on Kinetic, otherwise the Bolle Bols make that expensive.

If you are using a baby, it is figured at the level it is currently. This is nice because if you have a CL 35 when adult that has ar1 and 60 kinetic and is one day old, you can still get the 100 exp off killing Chubas. He will never get hurt.

So the key is, have your hands full and get exp. If its easy, its worthless

Sadly, thus far, there is just no chance of fighting higher level creatures & getting as much xp as if you had just killed little peeps & frogs the whole time. Sad sad sad. I killed Rancors & I killed dwarf nunas today. The nunas are far more efficient. Pathetic design.

Oddly, I did test out the old "dual xp grabbing critters" thing today & it DOES NOT divide the xp by the number of creatures. Directly contradictory to what SOE keeps telling us. So one big creature vs. another big creature IS worse than two half-as-bigs against a creature equal to them. With a GM against screechers on Endor, I got 600 xp (which seems to be some sort of artificial CAP on that pet BTW). With 2 level 15 critters I got closer to 800, total. It does NOT divide it, it gives a seperate tally of xp per creature & you get both.

Well that would make sense, a GM is CL 35, the 2 CL 15s to gether make CL 30. That's why you're getting more XP per kill with the dual combo. I'll bet if you used a single CL 30 pet you would be nearer the 800 XP mark (though I can't guarantee that, with the way this game works ).

One level 27 pet still got less than two level 15's in that situation.

With 2 pets I have found that it looks to be each pet will get 1/2 the xp they would have got if they were solo. (but there is also a catch)

*** these are simulated numbers and not actuals ***

Example:

1 CL16 vs CL32 = 360xp

2 CL16 vs CL32 = 180xp + 180xp (each pet got 180) = 360xp

1 CL20 & 1 CL12 vs CL32 = 140xp + 220xp (lower xp for higher CL pet) = 360xp

However here is the flaw, 2 pets of the same level of different types are not equal. A CL18 Choku does not get the same xp as a CL18 Kussak against the same mobs. It appears that the "power" of the pet is also involved. I have not looked into this much further but in most cases when I use 2 pets, I get about 10 to 20 additional xp above the solo half xp, per pet.

sorry if this is difficult to understand. Like I said this is just what I have noticed. Im sure someone has tested it more than I and can provide better information.

Ok, wIll explain EXP for CH for you.

When you use a low lvl non baby creautre against a very strong creature such as a rancor you get more experince because of the level difference. Exp has nothing to do with how much damage ur creature inflicts on the thing you are attack all that it depends is if ur creature hits the enemy once and is alive when the enmy is killed.

So in other words...NO ONE KNOWS. I have yet to hear whether 2 pets or 1 pet is faster, etc.. I bet SOE don't really even know.

well i am a master ch, ill tell you how i did it..... well first off their is a macro to grind through it. but i dont like macros so i wont give it.... but i found a good way to get xp. was i use mount squill, and my rancors mostly... i would go sit at the emperors retreat and just sick my pets on about 6 draktroopers... and i would get mad xp fast. then when they were dead, i would switch pets to my rancor and have him attack all the stormtroopers there at once... there are like 20.... so that was great xp as welll, then when they were dead, i would switch rancors and take on the atst.... i would get like 3500 xp a kill on the atst... i hit master ch in about a week... also good xp is the rancors on dathomir... use ur mount squill.... 2 of them do good damage. and if u have pet stims it makes it easy.... good luck to you

This is howI leveled CH:

Early on:

The pet rarely killedthe targets i used my low lvl marksman skills (carbineer and pistol)

kill lots of small critters around the city.

Me and my pet circled th ecity killing small creatures together.

It helps to have basic medic and and heal your pet.

Its useless to tame babies for XP since a lot of work gets about 300 XP

Middle:

Teach pet the guard command and stand near a meatloaf or similar thug spawn point and go afk it helps to have a loot macro.

Pets are a little stronger and can handle a weak thugs by themselves if need be.

Do some critter hunting.

And start taming babies for XP

End:

There are about 18 commands you can teach new babies

Go on a baby hunting expedition you are talking about 2000XP per baby.

One babies XP is equal to about6-10 sharnaffs XP.

You can train one baby much faster then you can have your pet assist you in killing6 - 10 sharnaffs.

I just circled around spawn points getting lots of babies, don't attack anything just look for spawnwed babies there are more then you think.

Go to a place like Coronet where most creatures are not agressive.

Its boring but it is the most XP per minute for a loner without a combat career.

Has not much to do with a higher Level of the Target. Iused a Huurton Stalker at

different Levels Vs Quenkers, with 6, 11,16, and i always got 340XP.

Moreso usingvarious Huurton at Level Xgives moreXP than another creature

of Level X against Quenkers.

Must be a very Arcane Formula....
