Thread: spilling the beans on CH in beta (NDA lifted)

Sounds like great news. I'm sorry those non-CL80 feel left out but it is reasonable that only a CL 80 can control a CL 80 in a level based game. I have a MR/MCH and a MM/MD/ME. My entertainer gets a new song and dance granted to it for buying the expansion. Not only that it gets a new prop, if I can find a combat toon willing to give up the quest rewards it takes to make it and they haven't already bio-linked the thing.
So if you feel left out because you aren't CL 80 at least the MCH among us get new creatures to tame meaning new content. Many of the professions get nothing and a few get an insult. I have to buy the expansion for my master entertainer to truly be a master and perform all the songs and dances, I don't get any content at all and a quest item my level 10 can't get, but hey SOE got their 30 bucks so I could feel like a real master at my craft.
Then why pray tell can a CL 54 control a CL 70 in this level based game?

WEAPONS are limited to CL54... I have yet to see a lightsaber, a rifle, a sword/axe, or any other weapon that requires MORE than a single elite mastery's CL of 54.. in THEORY, a CL80 toon should be an even match for a CL80 pet... we've all seen that this isn't the case (if only because a CL80 toon has a player controlling them, while a CL80 pet or mob is driven by AI). do we need a weapon rebalance, with certs ranging from CL1 to CL80, rather than CL1 to CL54?
where do we draw the line? CL70 isn't overpowered for a CL54 toon, but CL80 is?
mCH doesn't exist in a vacuum, to be sure. a mCH has the skill points left over to master another combat profession and increase their CL to 80, but the OPTION to buy more combat skills shouldn't be a REQUIREMENT.
this isn't a BioE problem (though it DOES affect BioE's). this is a problem that highlights the foibles and inadequacies of the CL system, and it is a problem for any toon that doesn't sport a shiny CL80 next to their name.
This statement brings up another point.
Since launch the game has made certain professions easier to master by lowering the requirement to become said masters. Master doctor doesn't need master medic andmaster bounty hunter doesn't need master marksman are two I can think of off the top of my head. Yet now, they are making the master creature handler profession master another FULLelite combat profession just to BECOME a true master creature handler now.
Not right.

Maybe they are going to be bringing in new loot that are weapons for CL80 players. That should really annoy the WS in SWG. Meanwhile my CL 54 rifle can hit with 1000+ damage each shot. I have yet to see a CL 70 creature hit with more than about 500. Now there is the time to recharge that needs to be calculated but it is well known that any Master Rifleman can take down a pet in seconds. So why again do we CH have to have not just any other master but a full elite *COMBAT* master to be the best we can be? Not even BH had that kind of requirement BEFORE it was adjusted to need only a line or 2 of the normal professions.

A couple of question I have.
Do you need to buy the expansion to get to control lvl80? Yes
Will you need the "extra attachments" to control the lvl 80s or just to tame them? For both
If the answer is no to both of these will it be possible for a combat lvl 80 MCH to control 2 lvl 40 pets?No
You must also be a CL 80 MCH to get CL80 pets.
Thanks in advance tor any clarification you can provide
You're welcome

I seriously doubt they bring in any weapons that require CL 80.
I also like how you point out the descripancies, it is obvious that allowing a MCH to control CL 80s would not be unbalancing, as quite frankly we have one of the lowest DPSs in the game as it is now. I am worried about when the NPCs start using specials, that's going to make it a lot harder on CHs. ( I already have to heal mine several times while trying to kill something, only going to make it harder ).
Hmm I hate myself for this but, we don't have the lowest dps in the game, heck we are probably above the half way mark in total dps for professions. Yes even a cl 54 player.
Consider a laser rifle requires a cl of 54, it will dish out lets say a max of 300dps, add 3 pets that have a combined totalmax dps of700 add that to a max of 1000dps potentially.A pistoleer max dps might be only 500 dps. Rough numbers but you see my point, and yes I understand we dont hit for max and accuracy is a contributing factor but to say we are the lowest dps isn't quite right, compared toa few, if taken as one combat profession with a cl of 54, then CH would probably be in the upper tier not the lower.
This is the same arguement that the people who don't like the skill system have, I am master whydo I have to be required to be this or do that. I feel the same way about the skills I am master don't ask me to grind again. in this case It's I am master I should control max pet.
The arguement isn't the title of "Master" It's about a cl 80 player with a cl 70 pet grouped will be pretty much the same as a cl80 player grouped with a cl 80 pet. Other than a little ham and a little dam and it won't be much the difference will be minimal. Now can the same be true of a cl 54?? No one here really knows it can't be compared to a cl player of 80 at least not in pve.
cl 70 pet - cl 54 player = 16 levels
cl 80 pet - cl 54 player = 26 leves
Thats quite a jump and I was told the reverse is true when grouping a higher cl pet with a lower cl player that the player gets the pets higher cl. I have no way of proving this so correct me if I am wrong. If this is true then it will not be very fair to the other single combat professions out there and as some have voiced fears about the old days what do you think other players would say?
I really do want to be on the cl 54's side but it just doesn't look right and I am leaning more and more towards the fact that the devs may have this right this time.
Only way I see to end this debate would be to test it out on TC, give a fewtesters "maybe old sandboxers" a toon with cl 54 and the cl 80 pets, and match them up to a reg. cl 54 professions. Then do the same for the cl 80 players with 80 pets and see what the difference is between them all.
I think it's like food armor and def stats lol. You reach a point where eating food with 10% higher bonus than the food you already ate with def mods after you don armor and add up your def. does nothing worthwhile other than filling your stomach since the added bonus equals 2 points of damage. But that 10% extra food on someone with no def or armor means alot. kinda a math thing that I cant even begin to think about anymore because my head hurts lol.
Best wishes to you though

These factors is what exactly contributes to dps, which stands for damage per second. If you miss and hit for less, your dps drops. And without a combat profession, both of these happens a lot.

When grouping a higher cl creature with a lower level player, the creature drops its cl to that of the lower level player.

I stand corrected on the cl part.

On the dps sorry isn't gonna help your arguement, Oh and I know what dps stands for ![]()
I have a mch/mdoctor with marksman x/4/x/3
And I hit just as well as most people I play with and thats all professions, really its true, if you have a few nice weapons your misses arent all that often and heck I hot for an average of 700-1k a wack depending on the average enemy.

A better system would be to have some sort of skill set beyond Master. Something that might require a million more xp and another skill point each time to get +2 more levels. ( So with 5million more XP and 5 more Skill Points you'd get the CL 80 ). That would be a worthy goal of any CH to achieve, they could also require a quest for each box.

I am sorry but this to me is a definate no way never, it's bad enough grinding pet skills but making it a fs village type point and box is not the way to go.
How many village type grinds must we endure, at least the quest system although at times mundane can break up the boredom of the regular day to day stuff.
I'll give you credit for using your head and looking for a solution hehe just not one that has me grinding for months I've ben grinding for two years it would be nice to stop and smell the roses :-)

I have done quest's, missions and alot of higher end stuff with this toon and it's done pretty good lol.
I have a mch/mbh toon and as for hit vs miss I see nothing that makes me care lol. the dam tends to be 100-200 more on average.
As I wrote I know accuracy and such plays a part but in thie arguements above it's not enough to help your case and if you include pets dps I believe it hurts your case.
I mean it's ok go ahead and continue if i can see or should I say not see the big difference in dps "we can forget what the toon stats sayon the weapon said toon shows since that just enforces my opinion"
I don't think the dev's are that dim to fall for it. Plead your case and plead it well but don't make a big deal on things that in the end won't help and ch vs dps won't help you. The toon I spoke of kicks some butt compared to a friend who's master pistoleer, the only real benifit they have is snares and such. it's sad and my pistoleer friend gets a little ticked that a dabbler in pistol can do 80% of the dam he does lol. But thats a dev and pistoleer problem not a ch problem, but we really can't complain about dpsjust being honest.

Ok, I'll conceed the dps arguement. I'm no expert on pure combat professions. ![]()
But I'll still argue that as a bio engineer, we should still have our CL raised for all the combat situations the bio engineer is part of. ![]()

If this holds true it will bea big boost to the profession, And im sure we will see allot more ch's running around.
But i got to say this to.
Damn I just got my tanks level'd up and trained
Just joined the ranks of CH and been reading the boards (I'm 0100 at the moment!) and the proud owner of a CL11 Bantha that has grown a little bit since I had it...
Anyway I digress...
Yay that we (look at me already including myslef in your hallowed ranks) can get level 80 creatures but for all that is good how long is that going to take to level up!!!!!!!
