1. Wanted to be a master CH for the pets, the ability to solo, and to possibly be able to pvp.

I would like to see higher max pet lvls or non at all. The CH profession takes up so many skill points to keep around that if I cannot get my pets to take care of the majority of an pvp attack or creature in the game then I can not attack them at all. I am not a fan of the nerf.

2. I see our role in the game as tanks in pvp battle (see #1), resource gathers (bc pets are good for hunting), pet sales man (this was also killed by the patch), pet trainers (once again hurt by the patch and the max ch lvl).

3. To make us feel important in a group we will need the things I listed in #1. I need to know that I will have a chance in pvp battle to join a pvp group. In hunting I can use my pet as a tank so I think that makes me useful, but due to the power of a TKM not really needed. I have seen TKM's solo the most powerful creatures that a CH can tame and that I think iscrazy.

Just my opinion.

I really like your idea of expanding the roles of the pets, I think it could be fairly easily implemented under the Training radial:-

For example the Medical recsue pet, could be mounted with a rescue harness, perhaps with a 18 slot pack in it for those vital stims and the like, and an extra command for dragPlayer would be available.

A side note for more player involvement would be to have the saddles, harnesses etc. craftable by another profession, tailors? and they can be enhanced and bettered, to carry items, give bonuses, even adding barding to our mounts.

While on the mounts thing, I believe we should be able to as CHs mount anything for ourselves, or other CHs, I personally would love to ride a large cat, would set us above the rest.

To answer the question though I belive my pets are tanks/mob distractions and life savers, but my reasons for getting and keeping the profession are many.

And creature handlers pets growing past normal wild creature limitaions is also a must, it would be nice if the type of interation you have with your peets incorages the area of growth, so if you send it into combat a lot it grows tougher, if you ride it a lot it gets faster.

1. The appeal of ch was the ability to controlhigh level creatures and use them in combat. I joined swg wanting to be a creature handler and over time have come up with one of the best collections in the game.

Bull Rancor

2 Frenzied Grauls

1 merek king harvestor

1 merek queen harvestot

1 Gaping Queen

1 merek deaths'head

2 aracne widows

2 mantigrue screechers

1 bloodseeker queen

I also enjoy the challenge of the hunt and the difficulty in finding the rare creatures.

2.

Creature Handlers are tanks who can use pets to hunt super high lvl creatures and help keep the large stuff from running around killing others in group. In a 10 person group we found a Gorax lair where I used my Bull Rancor with a doctor buffed him and healing him kept the Gorax from attacking us. Creature Handlers also get higher missions for group by bringing out pets and a nice pet makes grinding professions easier for holo grinding.

3.

Creature Handlers mostly solo there hunting missions and the search for rare creatures.I think Creature Handler should not be a group profession based profession because creature handlers become accustomed to hunting lairs on their own. This has hurt us in pvp because that hunting mentality does not work in pvp and we are easily defeated. Make pets stronger with better armor. Give creature handlers nd pets immunity to special attacks such as poison, disease, and knockdown. Give us the ability to be financially competitive with bio engineer.

I am a solo player so my number one use is so I can actually go out by my self (without having to listen to the guild fight) and survive. I am master TKA and master CH. I dropped CH and got it backed.

I still can't solo any of the big things like Crates, Nighter Sisters, Geosian Cave, Corvett, and etc.. About 35K HAM is my limit.

I first became master right after the mount thing, just in time for the vehicles to smash that. Then the nerfing of pets, and then the BEs had it all. I've tamed most animals and im a master explorer. I've sold 4 pets and given away about 8 mounts, Last week someone was looking for a pet from lvl 25 to lvl 50, i offered a webmaster for 30k. The person said that was to much because they were easy to find and I told him to go ahead and get his own. When you tame a pet you spend time to go where they are and find them, tame them, train them, and then wait with your inventory of 22 till someone wants what you have.

There is no money in CH.

My second reasion is that I really like taming pets.

There is no money in TKA.

I can join a solo group on Dantoonie and get 27k credit Janta missions and go out and solo. This is how I get credits. Not bad but not much fun.

On theCH subject of discussion:

About #1.

Imagine the ferocious Rancor in unison with a gargantuan Graul Mauler under the commnad of one being, a CH.... Now imagine both creatures being ordered to attack one opponent (whether creature, npc or player). Now imagine that the CH is armed with a weapon of any type... ... If u asked me that is about the most dangerous thing in the galaxy next to probably an upset Jedi!!! I always saw myself roaming the planets being known as one of the most feared creature handlers in existence. When in reality any player looks at you and laughs! There should be a type of system that allows players to attack these creatures and do considerable damage in accordance to the statistics stated, but not as extreme as it is! In a duelagainst a Hand-to-hand combatant a creature with a HAM bar of 11k lasts no longer than seconds! If u get lucky both Rancor and Graul will last a whole 2 minutes at most. Although creatures might not hit very hard (in some cases) fearsome creatures as those mentioned can surely dent, brake, or even tare off pieces of armor off the wearer! It only seems feasable to say the least. The strenght of such a creature should definately be taken into consideration in any combat situation. What is to say that a Graul smacking a medium sized human will not send him flying a couple of yards??? At least that's the way I imagine it. Let's take the Kimogila species for example. Although these creatures as well as others might not be tamable their brute strenght, amazing size, outstanding speeds should be something to be taken seriously by players.. but it is not. They see these creatures and they automatically see something that can be soloed! The same problem is seen with any combat situation involving a CH. That's what I wanted as a CH. In the beginning of SWG any CH could use any creature as long as someone tamed it for them! That's fine and dandy if u ask me. Why not have the CH call the pet of a level that is not tamable to them and have the pet anger towards it's master? Maybe have the pet stand there and laugh while the master gets his/her life taken out of them! I don't know. When I wanted to be a CH I wanted to be able to do things other players could not do. Maybe have them tank for me while I got enough xp in order to defend myself better.Maybe to have them carry items for me that would otherwise be too hampering for me to carry, such as lets say a mining facility!!! (although it is nice to carry 32,000 units of metal on you, or 100,000 pounds of meat!! lol riiiiight!). Pets as well as humans have enemies. Why not have the creatures randomly attack other beings/npc's while out?

About #2.

What is to stop me from getting on top of a peko-peko and fly away? Well SWG apparently lol. Maybe "climb aboard flying pet" does sound a bit out there but does it really? How well can u train a creature? Can u teach it only to obey? Or can u teach it to do tasks for u? It would be nice if a pet could attain waypoint references and go to them so that missions could be completed by the pet itself... lets say I'm a Medic in training (which sucks becuase although I use the same method to heal animals as I do humans I get no xp for it) and I have to craft a million and 54 stim A's in order to get Master medic, but I need money bad!!! Well why not have WillyTheTiger (lvl 45 Gurrcat pet with 11k HAMs) do the missions for u? Maybe get less or more money depending on the missions difficulty for thepet? What about the idea of "Tank for hire" for CH's? I can post myself on some planetary map as a "Tanker". A player will hire me and my ferocious creatures so that I may be of aid in the task of acquiring certain things. What about "hounds" for the Bounty Hunters? A MCH train ability that enables the MCH to train Bounty Hunter hounds which will be posted by the BH in a planet to sniff out and search for targets? The ch cannot have the "hound" kill the target but it can have the "hound" follow the target around! A BH pet which requires no CH skill to use! Survival of the fittest rule tournaments for pets with rewards! Like a themepark for CH and CH fans! Create a stadium or arena in which CH's can have their best trained, skilled pets battle one another for a price, or maybe have the pets battle NPC pets such as those seen on the movies in dungeons and things of that nature!

About #3.

Sometimes a hunting group is devided. The ones that need the xp for battle are the combatants and those who need the scout xp are behind harvesting, but often they find themselves weak being attacked by creatures/npc's that are too powerful for them! That's where the CH comes in, with a CH on the group creatures will more than likely attack the most powerful predator first in order to survive, (survival of the fittest rules of nature 101) so that creatures will most likely swarm the CH pets and not attack those in the back (sort of like wizards not being able to be close to combat but yet have an active role) or if they attack it will only be one or two, which will give the team time to help the powerless ones in the back! The CH should be able to give creatures commans such as flee (with this command the creature will run far from the group therefor driving the pray away from battle or an almost fallen comrade!, or feign defeat ( in which case the pet will run to the closest place where it, smells a friendly type creture and ask for help, thus increasing the battles intensity).

Overall the CH should be a powerful class that enables the ability to hunt in places where no one dare go. A great CH should not be able to only control 3 creatures at one time, for if the necessary skill is there, any number of animals may follow and act accordingly according to creature types, enemies and the like. Any questions/comments feel free to send me a msg via-mail system here or contact me on-game in server Bloodfin, Character Name: Karika. Thank you all for your patience and support.

Given the basic considerations listed above, please answer the following questions:

What defines theCreature Handler role in combat?

A Creature Handler's role in combat should be both. Some tameables primarily for tanking. Some tameables primarily for damage dealing.

What basic combat elements should they possess?

It all depends on the tameables. You can't really give a CH combat mods outside of their pets.

What offensive abilities?

Some tameables for pure damage, less tanking. Up some damage here. Low some kinetic resists there. Add light armor piercing for some tameables, you have a damage dealer then.

What defensive abilities?

Some tameables for pure tanking. Low damage, high HAM, high resist pets, you have a tank.A Stand alone Creature Handler is only as good as the pet he/she tames, and this is hardly taken into account.

What unique abilities?

Here is an idea I have for further Creature Handler progression. Pet specializations. Say I choose a Rancor as my specialized pet. Here is a basic idea of how it would work

  • Novice Rancor Trainer

Large reduction in HAM costs for the /enragepets and /emboldenpets commands

  • Rancor Agressiveness Training

Anatural boost in the Rancors damage from 540-550 to 660-680

/berserk2 and /intimidate2 commands for pet

  • Advanced Rancor Empathy

/sentry command for pet. "Pet will guard target to the death disallowing anything within 20m's of target"

Instead of a pet vitality loss, the Creature Handler will have the option of taking SEVERE wounds to himself in exchange of preventing the loss of 1 vitality point to his pet.

  • Advanced Rancor Conditioning

+40 Pet Terrain Negotiation

20% HAM increase

  • Master Rancor Handler

/trick 3 command healing all mind and wound damage by 90%

/trick 4 command healing all mind and wound damage by 100% curing any disease or poison as well

/breed command Allowing your Rancor to breed with another Rancorproducing a baby of that particular species for the Creature Handler to tame

(must be at a lair of the same species)

/trainmount command allowing the Creature Handler to also make his specialized combatpet into a mount only he can use and ride.

I think you get the idea and hope you like it half as much as I do.

Should add what advantage or asset in group combat?

Like I said. All depends on the pets. A Creature Handler would have the option to use either his tank pets or his damage dealing pets, depending on what he/she has tamed.

How could/should they interact with other professions?

Providing breeding services for Bio Engineers. Providing non-combat uses to non-Ch's, such as rescue pets. (a pet that drags incapped PC's or delivers medicine). Entertainer pets that are trained to "sing" along or do tricks with their entertainer master, giving them bonuses to healing. So many ideas are already on the CH forum.

What interaction / dependencies should exist with other combatants?

Giving CH's the option to tame tanking pets as well as damage dealing pets will give them a more broad role in a group. CH's already depend on BE's for stims and more often now, pets. I am not sure how else a CH could interact or depend on others.

What should be their unique role in the Galactic Civil War?

How about Giving the larger tameables (Tortons, Maklocs, Fambaas) an ability to carry shield generators to assist in battlefield fights. Or the ability for the same large tameables to do area kinetic damage as they run through a group of enemies in battlefield encounters. This could be a command reserved only for the large tameables such as Tortons, Kimogila's, Fambaas and such. A /stampede command used only for battlefield encounters.

Currently in a PvP situation, pets are just not viable. They die much to quickly and can be ignored for several reasons.

1. Pet damage output only consists of kinetic.

2. They have no armor piercing.

3. They do not hit hard enough.

4. They do not hit fast enough.

5. They usually stop attacking when the CH is killed, they do not protect to the death as they should for theirmasters.

Thus the reasonspetscan and are ignored in a PvPbattle.

The appeal of the Creature Handler profession to me is the variety and behaviour and beauty of the creatures, and to be immersed in the Star Wars universe. It's not about having the most 1337 death-dealing uber-pet.
Yes, it's useful to have a hunting partner always available, but as far as usefulness SWG largely misses the point. Creatures' role, and therefore the handlers' role, should be about moving people and stuff, and guarding fixed or mobile objects.

1) Moving around a large amount of inventory should require pack animals. If the inventory system was revamped based on mass, rather than item count, we'd see realistic scenes like resource-hunters leading giant beasts of burden, carrying their metals back from their harvesters.

2) Multiplayer mounts should be a possibility. In the movies, we saw this with Jawas in Mos Eisley, for example. By extension, we could see enormous animal fortresses like the Oliphants in LOTR, and a CH would be needed to pilot it.

3) Some kind of "guard dog" might, for example, protect a harvester farm from damage by passing herds and vandals. It might guard the gates of a city (if player cities ever have walls and gates and resemble anything than stripmall 'burbs). The ability to place our pets in the environment would add to immersion and roleplay.

4) It should be possible to raise animals pastorally, not just for combat. A shepherd is also a "creature handler", and this could fit into the Star Wars immersion easily enough, but there's no meaningful way to play SWG this way. It could easily become a whole new game within CH, and certainly lends itself to CH-specifc mission terminals. Envision you and your Dalrake "sheepdog" shepherding a couple of dozen Nerfs across the plains of Corellia for a client, trying not to lose any to wandering or predators. That's one nerf I'd actually like to see.

as someone who is currently grinding his way up to novice CH(have about half the xp required) the appeal of the CH class to me is that by becoming a CH I can do what i have been doing all along which is progress my character by myself. I have found that I spend most of my time solo cause it gets on my nerves that i have to stand outside a starport shouting for people to join a party and then most of the time the only ones interested are uber and want to do "solo grouping" so they can take missions that pay high and keep all the rewards for themselves. as I stand no chance in combat against the type of critters that they're going after its of no benefit to me. The idea of having pets like rancors and such also appeals to me.

If there was CH missions in the game it would rock. for example Jabba wants a new pet rancor to keep in his pit.(the guy in ROTJ that was crying when Luke killed the Rancor was no doubt a CH)

being a CH also gives me a very good reason to get out into "the wild" and explore. I have been playing for just over a month and spend most of my time on tatooine, if I were a MCH I would be more inclined to visit other planets to see what kind of pets i could get.

CH should def be able to sell pets that they have caught, its probably a corner stone of the profession, yet from what i have read here its broken.

I like some of the things that have been suggested by many players, especially the things about pack animals, its a great idea and I feel it should hve been infrom the begining.

Pet combat needs a big revamp from what I here, I have no interest in doing PvP cause from what i have seen so far the only people that do PvP are uber buffed characters who usually win with 1 or 2 attacks. The idea that a player character can punch a Rancor to death just does not fit well. its kind of like Mike Tyson punching and elephant to death, its just not going to happen, I'm not saying make Rancors impossible to kill I'm just saying add a touch more realism to it.

the role of a CH in a group should be the one that uses his pet to smash lairs and assist combat classes take care of especially difficult creatures.

There have recently been a number of threads talking about what the "role" of the Creature Handler currently is in-game. I'd very much like to get more thoughts on this, so I'm creating this thread to focus the discussion. Here are a few questions to get the ball rolling:

1. Whatwas the appeal of the Creature Handler profession to you? In other words, what things make being a Creature Handler something you have chosen to do?

2. What role(s) do you, as Creature Handlers, fill in the game world? For example: Tanks, damage-dealers, roleplayers, status effect inflicters (i.e. poison, disease, knockdown), resource harvesters, mission runners, pet salesmen, pet trainers, etc. Which roles (combat or non-combat)does the CH fill better than any other profession?

3. What should a Creature Handler's place in a hunting group be? Everyone in the group wants to feel important... what should make the Creature Handler an important addition? What would it take to get us to that point?

1: I always have and always will play a pet class in a MMoRPG.. I love pets always have.. There is no other reason to be a CHer every other class in the game is better.

2: We fill the look at my cool pet role.. As of right now the only thing we do better than others is train BE pets for them to sell.

3: We should be Tanks and agro holders.. Lowering risk to others. As for what it would take to get us there well take out the 70 level limit cap and put pets back to release stats.. Now this will never happen as its SoE so there will not be a place for CHers in groups that a gorup could not better fill with any other damage class.

I chose to be a Creature Handler since I love the aspect of controlling creatures, both powerful and for fun. I have a few small pets that I would like to build some small house or home for in or outside my house. I often go hunt in the wild with my stronger pets collecting hide, bone and meat for getting a good income. I often do train other pets. Mostly I name them and give them mount. I am really baffled by how often master creature handlers give people pets with lousy commands. Attack = a is not good. The /tellpet command is not functional with one word commands and thus you cannot make a macro like this. /Say Go get him boy; /tellpet attack. Or something else. Tellpet also works much better than shouting. I therefore often rename pet commands and learn people how to use them and try to roleplay my part as a creature handler. This is best done in newbie locations since the "grinding" hell or "solo-group" hell we find where most play cannot support roleplaying. The setting sucks at such locations. I find my role in this game is a very little one indeed since none want me in groups to tank. None want me in groups for I steal their experience. Lol as I could. None want me in groups for I lag them up. No I do not .. I never use commands that you hear moron. And finally I do not want to be in a group with people that want me in it for better exp and then leave me to finish their mission alone. ?!?

So a change can only do good. We as a profession have been revamped ... I wonder when we can see that take effect for all the others?

I would dearly like to have a tag on the pets as this was trained by Sior Draal Master Creature Handler. That pet was made bye Hugh Lear Master Bio Engineer. That would enhance our role as pet people. Also a place to store them in house like the zoo thing people have been talking about. Also a possability to sell them from there. To be able to enhance pets with commands or with bio engineered stims would be nice. There could also be some sort of new command list with stopattack, scare, sneak and so on.

May the force be with you!
