Thread: Vote: add 'Droid Handler' to the CH tree

Why on *earth* would I want to use droids? I'm a creature handler. I tame and train wild beasts. How would this possibly fit in with droid handling? Just because it's a "pet" type thing, does not make it fit with CH. Engineering? Along with scout? Just really doesn't fit. At all.
For all you out there who think like this... the general idea is to merge CH and DH together. It would be your option to continue to use 100% creature pets, or use 100% droids, or any combination of the two.
You could still be a CH, if you wanted to be.
Adding Engineering 4 as a pre-req goes along with Scout for the following reason. Engineering prepares you for the droid aspect, while scouting prepares you for the creature aspect of the class.
I am very much on record as wanting the DH profession. I am totally against putting it in the CH tree.
What I am for is CH staying the meatshield/tank persona. We will keep the MOBs of others while it is being engaged.
The DH profession is to juxtapose the CH. If we take the damage they should be able to deliver it using various weapons types damage. It keeps both classes very unique.
Runesabre is on record as saying he does not wish to create a class that is the same in different skins. But this cannot be reduced to that. Saying that would mean the melee is no different from the ranged. The second reason I have for not desiring a second class is immersion. The current theory is when combat droids come out people will choose droids over pets. I would like to see this play out.
In any case, I don't think making CH into a droid/creature handler combo class is the right idea. Unfortunately CH should have been a pure droid handler class from the drawing board, it would have made a lot more sense. Then they could have allowed rangers to have some quasi-decent creature pets to fill certain roles. Instead it's 100% backwards.
/nay for DH in CH.
What I want is an entirely seperate profession. I would have hoped by to have convinced many people to embrace this idea.
1) DH in CH would strip us of what little identity we have left.
2) CH is the tank of small groups unless you have a melee type with you, then they are useless because they run and cause mayhem.
3) DH in my eyes is something entirely different from a tank. It deals damage somewhere between a Bio-pet and a Specialized Weapon profession in various types (heat, cold, blast, stun, etc). This creates the justaposition needed to require a seperate class: CH's as brawlers and DH as weaponeers.
4) I do not want to be dependent on an additional class for a weapon. Already I must use BE pets to have a chance and a WS for my choice of weapon type.
5) DH as a seperate profession should allow me to use skill points remaining to return to what I want to be, a soloist. 3 bio-pets and 3 ferro-pets all out at once. Now before you say that is silly remember I would have to give up weapons use myself. I would be totally defenseless if all 6 happened to fall.

Maybe Carbineers should be able to use Pistols just as well. And Armorsmiths should make weapons. Maybe Jedi should be able to make Image Design adjustments to make other players look like Yoda.
I apologise if this is taken as being over the line rude... but these are my feelings, and I feel I must share them.
youre in the wrong frame of mind..
The idea is to eliminate Creature Handler, and replace it with "Pet Handler". If there was a "Marine" or GI-Joe profession, then you'd expect them to use both pistols, rifles, and grenades. If there was a "Driver" profession, you'd expect them to be able to drive cars as well as pick up trucks. Now there's a Pet Handler, who would be able to control all pets in the game.
The idea is to generalize combat droids and creatures into "pets". Each profession can still have a cert for a prof specific droid, or a prof specific creature if that ever happens, but combat droids/creatureswould belong solely to the "Pet Handler" profession.
Fine that you vote no, just wanted to point that out.
OK
I get your full meaning now.
I vote "No".
Plain and simple, I don't like the idea of lumping droids and creatures into the same "Pet Category".
I have no problem with either a new "Droid Handler" (Possibly some kind of "Mech-Wiz") Profession, Some kind of new Droid Cert System not based on skill points, or simply making droidsAT LEAST equalto the Non-Ch Creature pets and open to all.
I may even be for making the droids slightly higher level than the non-Ch creature pets. Some would ask "why higher level than the non-CH creatures", and my reasons are that droids SHOULD be more common than creatures. So give a SLIGHT push to the masses and make them SLIGHTLY better.
It's one thing to have many players flock to the CH profesion because of it's obvious pet advantage (Hey... it's a video game, with real life players that are going to go for what they think is most advantageous. CH has been altered well enough now, so that it isNOT a ridiculously cheap way of being more powerful)
