Thread: Creature Handler State of the Profession (January 2004)

My top five issues include what i believe is more important to me that transfer at master is like any other profession that crafts anything only being able to sell at master. please move transfer to novice. allow all of my fellow CH's to participate in a player driven economy or reimburse us better with uber missions like BH's get for money.

The new pet commands as i stated in the pet commands thread i have few needs for more. other than a seperate trick command that has no roleplay value and acts like trick 2 for all purpose but only heals pets that need healed, as to not mess my ham up for spamming the same command to both pets. A really cool new command system would be to train pets to track adding +5-10 bonus to possibly but not limited to BH's find, Ranger Track and somehow increase Artisan skills. Making minor pets that only non-ch can have retain some value since they are useless in combat.

the GCW is outta reach of CH's because we use our pets in combat we get less faction points. This is some sort of bug or oversight and im less inclined to participate any further in the GCW because of this and vitality loss agro loops. Which brings the next point.

Storing after 60 seconds of combat is unfair to our profession. There are times we are dead and are weapons are useless because by the time we get back to them they have jumped up and attacked someone because they are burning only to be burned again. The effect here is doubled one we have 2-3 useless pets laying around we cannot store thus leaving us defenseless to get back into action and 30-50 vitality loss at a time because they cannot be stored. Now not only do i not care about the GCW i dont care about PvP. Every other combat profession clones and spawns with weapons intact without any further damage. The point is if pet vitality is gonna be left in the game all weapons should have the 1-5% clone decay rate to correspond to the amount of money we must spend on vit packs and giving some possibility to the feeling of defenseless the CH experiences.

Vert again i must apologize because i have in other forums percieved you as not paying attention but i only ask you make responses inside the threads rather than starting new threads to let us know you are listening.

For the most part i agree with the new lists although some of the bugs matter less to me because they have either lessened or i have figured out work arounds on my own.

A Totally Different Reason For MCH

This probably isn't the right thread for this but I took exception to the statement we aren't a circus sideshow.

As a Novice Dancer and MCH I discovered that with the get in wedge get in column command after I equip a metal or wood rod I can have my three snorbals orthree bordocks dance with me. I'm afraid to say anything though, is this an exploit? Never know these days. It is a very cute and enjoyable way to grind dancer and amuse the ppl outside the starports. Since my pets arent worth fighting anymore and I have no weapon skills, I adapted. Well, on second thought maybe you are right. I am a circus act for sure.

P.S. These pets are bio pets with ham worse then gnorts and zero to 1 resist With my luck they will nerf the get in wedge get in column command.

Well ive been gone from the game for almost 2 months now and it's quite disappointing to come back and see that my beloved profession still has so many problems so far into release. I am very happy about all of the supposed returns of some of the rare pets and now there seems to be higher that lvl 50 pets too but the bio engineering problem disturbs me.I rarely buy bioengineered pets except if im going to straight up sell the pet. I like to tame my pets out in the wild it helps me RP and give's me a sense of accomplishment when I do this. I hope they stop making the bioengineered pets have such superior stats to the one's tamed in the wild(which I think is what is happening if Im reading right). But vertexon you seem to be doing a very upstanding job keep up the good work

I have been MCH since 8/2/2003 and I think this is a great post, thanks.

I like the idea of taming missions, I had not thought of this and it would be fun.

One thing to add is why as a MCH do I still have for fail when taming a lv. 40+ creature 20 to 30 times before I get it. Last night I tried to tame a bolma 29 time and then it attacked me.

I just hope some body from DEV reads this and not just us CHs.

May i first say, i agree with every post and reply, and good work on it, you hit alot on the head here.

we are looking at in battle... we suck... roleplaying.... well, we suck there two, i mastered CH for both roleplaying, and the old saying "strength in numbers" right? well you would not think that with how fast my numbers fade. how is it tamed pets get WEAKER? i don't know what it is, but i let my rancor go after the same type of wild rancor he is.... guess who won.... the wild one... and i even was helping

and as far as roleplaying goes.... it is nice having a rancor, and looking cool, but they suck, and even tho you are roleplaying, people still know you are weak. and we don't even have that much that looks cool! pets with armor, that would be GREAT, flying mounts, or maybe a mount that can atleast match the speed of a speeder, to give us CH some little incomeGreat, or a place to store them, a pet house, GREAT!

CH has made me so sad..... i won't get rid if it, becouse i LOVE my pets to much, and in the small hope it will get better..... but something NEEDS to be done....

Improvments

1. Make a flying mount with the speed of a landspeeder, it would not have to be repaired (even though bikes do not either due to a bug at the moment).

2. Lower the mount skill, nobody seems to need it anymore, exept newbies that cant afford a bike. A almost master ch isnt interested in selling mounts for 6k to newbies.

3. Bring back some good pets, where did the Gurreck go?

4. Make the planet HOTH and give us some new cool pets there.

Raneina, your experience brings up an interesting point.

Which is that the role of pets in SWG is narrowed down basically to three things:

1. Combat pets

2.Mount pets

3. Animal companions

There is no role for creatures outside of these three categories. Creatures that are primarily entertainers, and can enhance a dancer's ability to heal mind wounds might be a very interesting application. Lab animals of a sort for BEs. Creatures that have healing powers who could augment a doc or medic. Creatures who sample a Chef's wares and add experimentation value to his crafting. Creatures who expand the awarness of the environment for a Ranger or BH, or who can perform sentry or scout duties for combat players. Not to mention ysalamiri to offset FS types...

I really do hope they make the rancor the feared beast it is meant to be. Bump its CL up to close to 70, make it a real rancor, not a paper rancor as it is now.

I think the CH vs BE/Artisan vehicle issue in their 'competition' lies in the fact that the CH is the ONLY market for BE combat creatures (removing other CH's selling to CH's), and that the mounts are inferior to artisan vehicles.

thank you captain obvious. But WAIT!

Vehicles Vs Mounts. Its an ALTERNATIVE thing. Why should a non-ch class be FORCED to ride a stinking, squealing mount? They not CH for a reason.

Perhaps a solution to this would be to make vehicles have ZERO terrain negotiation, while mounts having +50 terrain negotiation. That makes mounts the ideal choice for 'rugged' terrain in the 'wild', and vehicles the perfect choice for 'civilized' places and flat terrain.

BE pets vs CH pets. CH is the only class that uses creatures. CH could only sell decent creatures to other CHs. So's the same with BE's. BE pets are costumizable and usually of higher capability than wild pets. This kills the market for CHs.

Solution? Make BE's have to buy something FROM the CH's. Inerlock it with the artisans, who can make Cages. Voila! CH's can go into the wild, tame a creature, bag it into a cage, and sell it to the BE's, who can then use it to sample DNA. The catch? Creatures in cages become inventory items, creatures in cages will receive a dramatically lower chance of 'dying' when being DNA sampled. Giving BE's an excellent source of raw DNA to do their mad experiments with.

CHs selling to other CH's? Sorry, that was an illusion from the very start. All the CH was selling to another CH was the convenience of not having to find and tame X creature. The BE's cut into that deep by becoming the de-facto convenience dealers. Not only do CH's not have to tame but they can also costumize the pet to the owner's likes.

However, this does open a door perhaps something the CH might be able to do to compete with the BE in this area: Breeder. Introduce a new type of 'factory' to the game, the Breeding Farm. In these farms the CH can go out to the wild, tame and cage a creature (see above), the caged critter becomes the 'component'. A CH can grab creatures of similar types (aka humbaba and savage humbaba), put them in the love shack and after a while (300s?) a new creature, in tamable 'deed' form comes out.. a mixing of both similar creature types.

While this may sound like something the BE already does by mixing DNA, the CH gets the option of doing whatever the BE can do, minus costumizing, with the creatures the BE does not have the templates to clone. But with restriction.. aka 'similar' creature means breeding a gaping spider hunter with one of those low level yellow spiders that roam naboo. spider with spider. Not spider with rancor as a BE can do. Felines with Felines, Canine types with canines, monkey like with monkey like types. Imagine one day breeding your own wookie!

'Foolish boy. Don't you know anything about Fantasia? It's the world of human fantasy. Every part, every creature of it, is a piece of the dreams and hopes of mankind. Therefor, it has no boundaries.'
'But why is Fantasia dying then?'
'Because people have begun to loose their hopes and forget their dreams. So the nothing grows stronger. It's the emptiness that's left. It's like a despair, destroying this world. And I have been trying to help it.'
'But why?'
'Because people who have no hopes are easy to control. And whoever has control has the power'

Thunderheart,

Please at least acknowledge this thread. It seems to me that you have a very throughful group of people here with good legitimate issues. Perhaps they cannot be dealt with now given other changes/priorities but at least give us some hope to continue.

Thanks for listening!
