The fix for this just passed QA on Test Center.

No offense, but since we've been waiting over 5 weeks for an iota of progress on broken Specials, you'd have to have more faith than a televangelist's hairstylist to be an optimistic CH these days.

We're not just "fixing" specials, though. We're replacing that with a specials system that has a lot of new special abilities. So you tame different creatures to learn their specials, and then teach those specials to the pets you actually want to use, depending on what combat role you want the pet to fulfill.

So we didn't want to "fix" the old specials system, since we were replacing it instead.

The new specials system is currently in development. We just want a little extra time to polish it, and that's why you don't have it (or a fix to the old system) yet.

Wow .... that's a great deal more information about what is being done than we've been given before, so thank you very much. You understand that this invalidates *all* the careful selection of pets for their useful Specials that current MCH's spent uncounted hours on before the C.U., and that we would have greatly appreciated an opportunity to provide actual input about a change like this before you pushed ahead with it, right?

I applaud you heartily for informing us on this one, but the failure to solicit input in the past has led to developers expressing surprise when the community hates the solution that suddenly pops up from dev-land ... this was a big chance for you to avoid that kind of mis-step.

We DID want the old system fixed ... nobody asked for a new system ... we ALREADY spent a lot of time choosing the proper pet for the combat role we wanted the pet to fulfill. It would be interesting to hear how you perceive trashing all our prior work and asking us to do it again will be perceived as a 'fix' by this community, but again I very much appreciate the level of honesty in your post, though I suspect you'll take a little heat for it.

JFreeman, I wholeheartedly get a cheery mood out of that one.

If I read this correct, let me say if I can have tamed a special species with the ability to cough up hairballs, I'd be able to teach it to ANOTHER pet I already have (similiar kind of species from different planet for example?)

Will this also be working on pets ALREADY owned and BE pets?

I understand. Really I apologize for the lack of communication recently (or...maybe a little longer than "recently"). We've gone through a bit of a team restructuring phase post-CU and post-RotW, assigning different programmers, artists and designers to different sub-teams as the RotW team and CU team came back into the general mix. Some of us are even still moving offices (and almost everyone moved from one office to another, if that gives you any idea of the scope of this).

I'm the new Live Lead Systems Designer, for example. It's taken me a couple weeks just to figure out what's going on (prior to this I was on RotW, and prior to that on JtL, so I haven't been "in the loop" much with regard to the live game or combat upgrade).

We also have a new live producer and a new creative director (who still needs to pack up everything he owns and move to Austin!).

Communication will improve, and so will the quality level of our publishes.

Thanks for hanging in there through this one! May there never be another like it...

What is it that TH and Tiggs do again? Maybe someone should 're-org' that a bit too.

JFreeman, thank you for the time you've spent on this board of the past couple of days. I really appreciate and others do as well. Now that we're informed of the fact that you have a proposed solution to the broken pet specials, and that it's being developed, there's a possibility that we can move on to other issues and get ready to give you guys some constructive feedback when it moves to Test Center.

Part of the problem with the lack of communication is that, because no one told us a new system (or any sort of fix) was actively being developed, we were left thinking that a lack of mention of CH in patch notes meant that NO progress was being made, for whatever reason. My patience level, and my willingness to give constructive feedback, goes way up when I know that the Devs are working on their end, and I think it's the same for a lot of others.

I really look forward to seeing this new system, and hope that CHs can be given and In Concept thread or something similar to discuss it in the same way as Smugglers were allowed to discuss the new slicing system. Also, thanks again for keeping us updated on the issues with our pets CL and the "elite" pets. I was very upset when I saw my female narglatches were not "elite" anymore, but when I came on here and saw an almost immediate response from you, I feel like there's no reason to be really angry. A mistake was made, and it's going to be set right, I appreciate that. I look forward to seeing this next hotfix clear everything up, and then to dialoging with you, or whoever is in charge of the new specials system, to get those changes tested, polished, and brought live.

Your presence is doing a tremendous amount of good for the community that exists within SWG. Having a "voice" from the inside is what alot of players really need. It's great to read your posts and I'malways looking forward to hearing about the current conditions which affectthe game.

Keep up the good work!!

I must say thanks for the honesty and communication. This is probably the most honest and open post I have seen from a developer since I started to play the game.

I wish you luck.

--- Cancelled 24th November 2006
Reason: The lack of multiplayer pve content and Star Wars feel.
For 3 years I have tried to find excuses to stay in game but only the expansions offered me what I subscribed for in the first place: A multiplayer Star Wars pve experience with friends around the globe. I found friends but with almost no addition of pve content they dropped out one by one. Now it's my turn.

I just wanted to point out...
while I WILL report JFreeman for trolling in my thread and posting off-topic (Hehe, just kiddin)...
It's pretty cool that a Dev was actually reading through posts on the forums... even one as silly as mine calling for Grand Wrix to be an Elite Pet.

Honestly, of all the posts I've made in the past, pertaining to serious issues or positive changes for the game... I never once thought that a post like this (Where I refer to myself as both handsome and charming) would end up being not only read by JFreeman, but become a spot where he reveals a great deal about this profession AND more importantly information about the lack of communication as of late.

In short... it's pretty cool that he was reading this thread at all.

Gives a little hope that our posts are actually being read and some of our ideas may indeed slip through occasionally.

During JTL Beta I had some great discussions with Devs that actually made some impact on the game and that was truly a great experience.
As much as I love Star Wars and as much as I love this game, it's very nice to be able to influence the designers... even just a slight bit.

May the force be with you.
