Fellow CH
Can you give me any details about the upcoming ch publish
Am generalizing what he said
Pets are now balanced and the upcoming publish will make sure ch is not an overpowered but balanced profession. He viewed pvp as being a very small percentage quoting pvp as being 5% of the overall gamersand that CH really didwas not a pvp combat profession. Like TH said in thebeginning where developers were having trouble defining the role of CH in pvp giving us the Jack of All trades abilities which will be coming in the future ch publish, I still feel from this discussion that thereis still a lot of uncertainty as to what to do with our profession.
CH isn't a pvp combat profession only because of the nerfs that have been imposed on us. I'm sure that if the profession were even decently effective in PVP then it would be a much larger percentage.
Updated question and answers once Fanfest was over
A follow-up question was later asked if we could "re-deed" those uncalleable pets so that they could be dropped in our houses.
Answer: Devs thought this was a good idea as long as it was understood that those deeds would not be able to be sold to other players. No mention was made about when something like this would be implemented.
This would be pretty cool...I'd like to add that it would be nice to be able to effect a pet's posture when used as furnature like when we /pet a pet. Instead of having my house cats stand around I'd like to have them sitting or laying down.
Higher level pets (CL 70 for example) are very difficult or impossible to tame, can this be adjusted?
Answer: Taming high level pets is supposed to be very challenging to make it more rewarding when one is tamed. It shouldn't be impossible, though, so Dev will "look at" taming difficulty. Though he seemed to think taming difficulty was where it should be.
Difficult yes but not impossible...right now it's often impossible to tame even low level creatures due to the "you can't tame that" bug.
A combination of questions about pets going aggro on mobs 80 meters away as well as getting aggroed by mobs even though play has masked scent.
Answer: AI problems with pets going aggro, especially in dungeons. Being "looked at". As far as pets getting aggroed, Dev kind of felt that mask scent should not include pets but will take another look at this. Mounts are the exception. Mounts definitely are included in masked scent (if player is mounted), and if mounts are getting aggroed, it's probably a bug. Will be looked at.
I can see not having the pet get mask scent with the owner but it also shouldn't draw agro more often then a natural non-player creature. We see spawns, random or not, right next to each other where the creatures never agro on the other spawn...but our pet even if it is the same kind of creature will draw agro. Giving the pet mask scent with the master helped to correct this problem.
Pets can't hold aggro, can there be some sort of /taunt?
Answer: I didn't write anything down for some reason. Attention deficit disorder, I guess. Tiggs was helping out as a sort of forum/question monitor, and Imust have beenwatching her. She's darn cute. Basically, they said they didn't want the pets to be a "meat shield" like they were pre-CU. And with good tactics, a pet could? hold aggro blah blah blah. That's all I remember.
Good tactics?!?!?!?!? That's a laugh...the only way to have the pet hold aggro is to reduce the amount of damage I am doing to lower then that of my pet. First off to do that would greatly increase the time it takes to kill the mob therefore greatly increasing the odds that my pet will not survive the encounter. Secondly even if I were to put my rifle away and use a CDEF Pistol I would out damage my pet! So where are these tactics they are talking about? Oh yeah maybe /cover...yeah that works to keep the agro on the pet...until cover breaks on the 3rd shot.
Keep up the faith fellow ch!!
I'm tryin man...but it's getting harder every day
I have been spending some time in WOW. Let me tell ya, overall, I liked pre-new combat system better tjam WOW. They actually did get a few things right in wow:
meaningful PVP. Honor points, a really neat thing, gee, I wish the GCW had something like that.
most importantly, they got pets right. I am a warlock, I can summon 'pets'. Since it is done via a spell, ok, fine, there is a delay. Storing, is instant. My pets actually listen to me. They do not autostore, they do not aggro critters or anything else. specials work. armor works. I have a pet, an imp, that is multipurpose. A tank it is not. But, grouped, my health can go up. It can also provide me other little benefits. I also have a pet, get this, with a TAUNT ability. Holy cow, imagine that, a pet with high health, low damage, and it can taunt and keep things away from me and others.
C'mon people who make game design decisions, work with the Creature Handlers. SWG has a longer history than WOW. All that had to have been done, since the combat system is a clone of it, is to try out WOW and see how those pets worked when coming up with how to implement the new combat system. If WOW can have effective pets, then why can't SWG?
Yes, WOW can be aggrivating, but the nice thing is, that my pets will stay by my side and actually GUARD me. It saddens me so very much on how things could be for this profession.
They fixed cover...you just can't use it close to your pets. MR uses Recon Armor but I dont' know if Wookies can wear that.
As a MR I solo'd the Varactyl quest in about 2 minutes without a pet and taking very little damage. Was really disappointed with how easy it was for me.
