Fellow CH

Can you give me any details about the upcoming ch publish

Am generalizing what he said

Pets are now balanced and the upcoming publish will make sure ch is not an overpowered but balanced profession. He viewed pvp as being a very small percentage quoting pvp as being 5% of the overall gamersand that CH really didwas not a pvp combat profession. Like TH said in thebeginning where developers were having trouble defining the role of CH in pvp giving us the Jack of All trades abilities which will be coming in the future ch publish, I still feel from this discussion that thereis still a lot of uncertainty as to what to do with our profession.

CH isn't a pvp combat profession only because of the nerfs that have been imposed on us. I'm sure that if the profession were even decently effective in PVP then it would be a much larger percentage.

Updated question and answers once Fanfest was over

A follow-up question was later asked if we could "re-deed" those uncalleable pets so that they could be dropped in our houses.

Answer: Devs thought this was a good idea as long as it was understood that those deeds would not be able to be sold to other players. No mention was made about when something like this would be implemented.

This would be pretty cool...I'd like to add that it would be nice to be able to effect a pet's posture when used as furnature like when we /pet a pet. Instead of having my house cats stand around I'd like to have them sitting or laying down.

Higher level pets (CL 70 for example) are very difficult or impossible to tame, can this be adjusted?

Answer: Taming high level pets is supposed to be very challenging to make it more rewarding when one is tamed. It shouldn't be impossible, though, so Dev will "look at" taming difficulty. Though he seemed to think taming difficulty was where it should be.

Difficult yes but not impossible...right now it's often impossible to tame even low level creatures due to the "you can't tame that" bug.

A combination of questions about pets going aggro on mobs 80 meters away as well as getting aggroed by mobs even though play has masked scent.

Answer: AI problems with pets going aggro, especially in dungeons. Being "looked at". As far as pets getting aggroed, Dev kind of felt that mask scent should not include pets but will take another look at this. Mounts are the exception. Mounts definitely are included in masked scent (if player is mounted), and if mounts are getting aggroed, it's probably a bug. Will be looked at.

I can see not having the pet get mask scent with the owner but it also shouldn't draw agro more often then a natural non-player creature. We see spawns, random or not, right next to each other where the creatures never agro on the other spawn...but our pet even if it is the same kind of creature will draw agro. Giving the pet mask scent with the master helped to correct this problem.

Pets can't hold aggro, can there be some sort of /taunt?

Answer: I didn't write anything down for some reason. Attention deficit disorder, I guess. Tiggs was helping out as a sort of forum/question monitor, and Imust have beenwatching her. She's darn cute. Basically, they said they didn't want the pets to be a "meat shield" like they were pre-CU. And with good tactics, a pet could? hold aggro blah blah blah. That's all I remember.

Good tactics?!?!?!?!? That's a laugh...the only way to have the pet hold aggro is to reduce the amount of damage I am doing to lower then that of my pet. First off to do that would greatly increase the time it takes to kill the mob therefore greatly increasing the odds that my pet will not survive the encounter. Secondly even if I were to put my rifle away and use a CDEF Pistol I would out damage my pet! So where are these tactics they are talking about? Oh yeah maybe /cover...yeah that works to keep the agro on the pet...until cover breaks on the 3rd shot.

Keep up the faith fellow ch!!

I'm tryin man...but it's getting harder every day

I came back couse of the CU ... being skilled in BE 2 2 4 2 / TK 0 4 0 2 / CH 3 3 1 3 ... I respeced out too MTK / MCH couse I did not want too be making meds for the doc's thy where doing that just fine. I wanted too make my own pets.

But I came too the point that I could not take all 3 master skill so ended up dropping BE and just went full MCH / MTK, its fun and I did enjoy it for a bit, but I am stuck playing WoW with some old EQ friends and dont find myself playing SWG/EQ much.

So here I sit reading whats going on with my pets. Trying hard not too just drop it and go with MR / MTK .. I did try MR / MCH out but cover was not working and with no armor I was easy pickings after drawing agro but but 3 shots from my wookie's bow.

I can see the mounted pets slowing so you can kite as a MCH / MR but if thy stopped you from shooting why did thy not at the sametime stop the slow down effect? some kind of oversight? is that not what the test centers are for?

Not for PVP!? its know all throughout the SWG that there are creatures not effected by force powers ! Rancors !! Jedi run Ranco KD the poor Jedi Masters!!! talk about a great PVP class ! mix it up with MTK what do you attack first the pet or the player !!

I been able to solo just about anything with being MTK / MCH letting the pets do all the damage and me not able too taunt it off my pet couse it does so much more damage then I do. My poor pets get KO and I have too finish it up kind of sad !

I did the quest for the Varactyl pet solo ! talk about hard almost imposable solo ! but I did it !! tried it a few times once with 2 pets then again with my crystal snake ( dont know where that came from it just showed up in my data pad when I came back too the game ) with the two pets I did greatabout 1/3 of health left on her but failed !! with the snake went a little faster but so did the snake ! talk about not about to help my pet out !! blinded kD dizzy! both of us at the sametime even !! grrrr she was a fun fight though !! and really enjoyed it !

Well that is my store so far and I sit back waiting and hoping my Creatures get fixed now that I hear that TK got there moves back ! but who cares if your pets cant enjoy it with you !

Is it really so hard too have someone too read each forum and write up a report too give too the devs of known bugs players have found? or issues?

just my 2 creds

Gazzer MTK / MCH Bloodfin .... should have just gone MCH/MR or MTK/MR but I ended up with both the broken pro's !

I have been spending some time in WOW. Let me tell ya, overall, I liked pre-new combat system better tjam WOW. They actually did get a few things right in wow:

meaningful PVP. Honor points, a really neat thing, gee, I wish the GCW had something like that.

most importantly, they got pets right. I am a warlock, I can summon 'pets'. Since it is done via a spell, ok, fine, there is a delay. Storing, is instant. My pets actually listen to me. They do not autostore, they do not aggro critters or anything else. specials work. armor works. I have a pet, an imp, that is multipurpose. A tank it is not. But, grouped, my health can go up. It can also provide me other little benefits. I also have a pet, get this, with a TAUNT ability. Holy cow, imagine that, a pet with high health, low damage, and it can taunt and keep things away from me and others.

C'mon people who make game design decisions, work with the Creature Handlers. SWG has a longer history than WOW. All that had to have been done, since the combat system is a clone of it, is to try out WOW and see how those pets worked when coming up with how to implement the new combat system. If WOW can have effective pets, then why can't SWG?

Yes, WOW can be aggrivating, but the nice thing is, that my pets will stay by my side and actually GUARD me. It saddens me so very much on how things could be for this profession.

They fixed cover...you just can't use it close to your pets. MR uses Recon Armor but I dont' know if Wookies can wear that.

As a MR I solo'd the Varactyl quest in about 2 minutes without a pet and taking very little damage. Was really disappointed with how easy it was for me.

There is the 'hunter' class in WOW, no shards needed for it. I used the warlock as an example of a prof that can have pets. Yes, the hunter is a much better example, but I do not have a hunter. But the fact remains that pets in that game were viable. Most PVP professions, regardless of game, will be easy to identify. Very few of those PVP professions use pets to any degree. The reason is that the pet is considered a form of a weapon. The character will usually suffer in way. In SWG, the CH gets NO offense or defense bonus. His pets can autostore, or not follow him in certain areas, or suffer other huge bugs. I would not recommend any pet character for a person that wants to do alot of PVP, it is not worth it.

SWG is currently using a lvl system similiar to WOW/EQ2. What this means is that a lvl 50 character will do less damage to a lvl 80 character and do more to a lvl 20. It also has a 'hate' system in it. The mob will develop 'hate' to the character that does the most damage to it. To offset this 'hate' some professions have a 'taunt' ability to keep the hate on them.

Currently, in SWG, the CH handler profession was given the role of 'versitility' according to the CU docs. Our role is to be determined by our pets. The problem with this is:

-our pets have NO specials at the moment

-our pets do NOT have a taunt ability

-our pets suffer a multitude of bugs

-our pets do NOT show armor, we have to guess from doing calculations during battle

How effective can we be, if my pet is doing 200 pts of damage, and I, as a Master Rifleman, can shoot for 1,200. Where will that mob go? It will attack me and ignore my pet. That is a lack of tanking right there. What I read alot of here are people getting one creature at a time and dispatching that creature and moving on to the next creature. That is fine, but alot of people with ranged weapons or a droid can do that.

While seeing pets in other games, let me use the warlock from WOW, as an example. Yes, the Voidwalker does need a shard. But the fact remains, it has higher health than I do, and it draws the hate away from me to it. So, it can tank. It has NO pathing problems,it will float around objects to get to its target. It will not autostore, in fact, if I log out with it out, when I log in next, it is still there. The imp, is a multipurpose pet. it is a bit on the weak side, but, when it is near me, my health can shoot up by 30 - 40%. It can cast a fire shield on me during combat. It can add a small amount of DPS to my DPS. That is how WOW got pets right. It has nothing to do with pets costing a shard for the warlock. That is a feature of the class. On the PVP server, I have a Shaman. The shaman IS a PVP prof. The warlock is a fun prof.

(this is the edit part)

-our pets now have 10 ham. I am not sure how versitile I can be with a pet with 10 ham. How many skill points did I spend to make master again?
