Thread: upcoming changes
I agree to 100% with what Linolil posted. I liked the aspect of SWG that all professions interact. With the CU already the Doctor / medic profession was made kinda no fun for ppl to play it. You rarely see Doctors around.
As for Entertainers/Dancers/Musicians, I thought it was a unique feature of SWG that all combat players get battlefatigue and therefore have to find some Entertainment to get healed. This made Entertainers a needed profession and important for interaction of players.
I hope this will not go life .. I really do ...

I think we all know the state of entertaining is grim. There are very few dedicated, full time entertainers left. I'd wager almost none, even our correspondents have combat "alts" as do our vocal community leaders. And I think that says a very great deal about how viable and fun to play the professions are. I don't see these announced changes doing anything to change that. And that is the problem that needs to be addressed in any changes made to entertainers.
To be fair, I don't think I know anyone who was just a full time entertainer and had zero non-ent alts, any time, anywhere in the game. When I started Dejah, she had artisan in addition to entertainer. Later she got marksman, mastered it, then dropped it to do carbineer and later pistoleer. Of course, she never dropped dancer, and never will. Now she has given up combat... because I have a 2nd account that is a combat alt. So I was never a full-time entertainer as a player, no matter what my character was like -- and I do not know anyone else who is. Everyone I know has more than one character -- either via multiple accounts on one server, or multiple servers with one character each. I have played MUSHes and MUDs and MOOs and MUCKs in addition to MMOs, and I can't think of any time in my online RPing life since 1996 (when I first started) that I *ever* played just one character to the exclusion of all else.
I think you are confusing "dedicated performer" with a player who never wants to do anything but entertain. They are not synonymous. I am a dedicated performer in that (a) I play my entertainer preferentially, even though I have a combat alt, (b) I love entertaining, and (c) if I am on my combat alt I will at just about the drop of a hat, switch on request to my entertainer to provide a heal or a buff or some entertainment (though not to the extent that I am willing to get the combat alt killed by logging out in the middle of a battle, lol).
Everyone I can think of from my old entertaining days had alts, or multiple profs. Palm Sun, Keren's master musician who played the music I danced to in the early days, was a TKA in addition to MMus/MEnt. Jaylin Taylor was a Dancer/Pistoleer. Cael, who taught my character many dances, was a dancer/rifleman or something (not sure which combat class). Slilvewi Hite was a dancer/TKA. Coovi Tillou was a dancer/CH/pikeman. Dipligonai Phreet was MMus/MEnt/Pike. Dahm Ghatt was dancer/TKA. Desmonda Drell was dancer/pike. Aradia Nivien was a dancer/tailor. Stormbringer Lightbearer was MEnt/Smuggler/many other things. Neeno was MMus/MEnt/MPike.These are all people I knew in the first 4 months of the game.. BTW, most of them still play (not all). Most of them, yes, have dropped entertainment, BUT... most of them have also dropped their other skills. It's been 2 years. Even if you love something you can get tired of it after a while and want to try something new.
And these are just single accounts. It doesn't even count people who are full time ents with one character, but have another character who is something else entirely. There is so much in this game, I'd feel silly just doing a few skill trees with all that other stuff available to do. It's not because I don't like entertaining -- it's because I do like lots of things in the game.
I think the idea that people "used to be full time entertainers" is probably mistaken. I don't know anyone who was a "full time" entertainer -- as a player, anyway. Or, for that matter, a full time anything. There is a reason they used to give us enough skill points to fully master 3 profs...

The only answears for "Swoosh stick" I found in Google were describing caps from a very known evil sportswear company hehBut dictionary.com defines "Swoosh" as "To move with or make a rushing sound."... That could be just as magalena says ^^ (Forgive me if it was plainly stating the obvious... didn't know that word personnally, French beeing my natural language
)
Me says cheers for the new funny completely-useless-and-totally-indispensables thingies... ^^
... and /moan for the removal of BF heh. I don't think that bf was such of a hassle as it was before the CU... and even less now heh. Looks like they have been removing most of the classes interdependencies lately.
A player can easily forget about time and continue hanging in the cantina once his BF is healed, but now that he has no in-game mechanic incentive to even go in there in the first place, I fear the cantinas will be kinda empty. :/
But anyway, this looks quite fun in the overall, even if I'm currently "on leave" (I temporarly dropped my artist skills with the respec to visit kashyyyk in healthy conditions), my Respec Token is definitely giving me back my Master Musician / Master Entertainer boxes ^^
ya got a point there, who needs an AS when you can get clone trooper armor as a quest, or a WS either when you can go to pretty much any planet and pick up a quest for a new gun. or SW, quests abound for free ships. chefs and tailors are all thats left for love. you can't loot food worth a crap, and the same with clothes, gawd awful shades of pink and puke. the npc's don't even wear that (i guess that's why it's in their inventory to loot)!
hmmm.... i had some other stuff i wanted to say, but i have forgotten. so i guess i'll take that last high note i had and say "GOODNIGHT! i'll be here through thursday."
Omgis Teh'Funner of Eclipse here..
I like to think I'm an RPer.. my character has a backstory, and a template chosen to reflect that. I personally love dancing, for the social excange that goes on in cantinas.. if you're lucky, and remember to /addignore all the spamming afkers, that is. -_- mastered ent/dance completely atk, but honestly only did so for the badges to remember them by.. I'd love to keep dance, but the CU gave that nice feeling of "I need CL 80 or I'm crap" to the game, so along with her calling of TKA, Omgis is also going to be taking up Carbines... (works with her character, ex-dancer turned vigilante) So I had to figure out the new template.. unfortunately, I found I would have to drop all of Dancer and most of Entertainer to be a "Teras-Carbine-Artist" .. (pre-CU I could still be novice dancer, tho) Oh well, I think.. I still get to dance thru ent, right?
So I read the proposed changes...
Now I've changed to figuring out if I want scout for terrain negotiation, or medic for extra healing. -_- Props? No BF? Omgis can dance her heart away.. but noone in their right mind would waste precious grind time to watch her. -_- Not gonna fly, for me. ![]()
I've been contemplating how Ent profs could be worthwhile in the post-CU game, and killing our purpose wasn't -my- plan... Nice new, target-specific buffs would be nice, (and being target-specific, unafkable) but battle fatigue is one of the few things that keeps cantinas alive..
Also, an idea to appease myself and my "must be CL 80!" urges..
Combat-oriented skill bonuses for ent lines.. (and an excuse to increase CL with ent skills)
Dancer: Enhanced dodge skills, increased attack speed, dance-oriented combat distraction effect
Musician: Increased accuracy, increased attack speed, sound-oriented combat confusion effect
Image Designer: Enhanced camo, decreased aggro, increased persuasion, smuggler-ish skills.. general actor abilities.. not sure about combat enhancements, tho.. :/

Am I the only one here who finds inspirations very useful? I keep reading post after post about how worthless they are. But, I gaurantee you, I wouldn't have achieved some of the skill boxes I've achieved the past month without them.
I don't think anyone is saying they actually are worthless. Just that they are perceived as being worthless, because no one is coming to get them.
I've found them very useful for my alternate character on Chilastra, who is working on becoming a Rifleman & Ranger (and who will now have to get acquainted with another armoursmith if Carenzi is going away.

I do not see a bonus to crafting when doing BE. I thought perhaps this was because I was maxed out but I've turned in all my xp and still receive no bonus. This may be because BE is not considered a "crafting" profession.
I was strickly all entertainer/dancer/musician from Aug'03 to the great pet nerf of Dec'03 when I decided to drop musician to take up the BE mantle. I spend much of my time in the cantinas or traveling to buff (when we were able to) and heal players whereever they happened to be at the time. Even when I was all entertainer I did not spend all my in game time in the cantinas. There are POIs to see, theme parks to do, player events to attend, and of course shopping to be done. ![]()

But what if there was an inspiration buff that gave you a 1 - 2 hour bonus to terrain negotiation? Wouldn't that be valuable? If all you want is to be able to run up hills while you're on Dathomir, but you're only on Dath sometimes and only part of that sometimes is spent running up hills, don't you feel a bit put upon to have to keep novice scout just so you can run up hills? So what if instead you could get an inspiration buff, have 2 hours of being able to run, and keep those 15 skill points free?

This one line says it all for me.

In addition, they had to come to the cantina to get mind buffs/heals and (due to the affect of BF on doc buffs) before finding a doc. Whereas a doctor could usually be foundin moststarports they were passing through.

Because in the eyes of the ub3r 1337 d00dz, the doctors have EARNED their respect. They craft, survey, harvest, loot. All we do is animate in a cantina.
