Thread: Old School loyal CHers be perpared to not be happy with Patch 21...
I'm an old-school MCH and I like the changes. It does seem a wee bit daunting at first. Then I sat down and thought, how many of my babies do I REALLY use in combat? I only really have two favs in combat. A lvl 69 BE'd Rancor and a very old and beat BE'd Gurreck. I think he's lvl 64. The other pets, I mainly keep to wander around with. They're my buddies, not my combat pets. So that's only two pets I really have to level up. I'm looking forward to it. We've only had the village grind as a reason to go out and do stuff and now we can pick up little strays and use them to make ourselves better. Maybe it's different for me. I don't pvp, (I'm an Animal Hippie!). I'm not really worried about how effective they are, as-such. I solo lvl 80- 81missions with them with no trouble at all (I'm also a Master Rifleman). I don't even have to wear armor. So they were very effective for me before. This only makes them more effective and it gives us something new to do.
I think the title of your post shouldn't have been quite so leading. Some of us are prepared to be happy. Just cause you're not, doesn't mean we're not. I say that in the nicest way possible.
If any the devs that worked on this system are reading this thread and are feeling discouraged by the complaining, don't be! I can't speak for the whole CH community but I for one am pleased with the attention shown to us and our pets. Not say that I don't wish for more done on the bugs, but as far the new system goes, I'm happy to see it here.

Your pets are just as effective today as they were yesterday. What has happened is that we have had some additional possible capabilities added since yesterday.
Yes my pets are as effective as yesterday. They are not as effective as they were pre-CU. They had specials then.
Is everyone's memory so short that they forgot pets had specials prior to Publish 17? We are not coming out ahead here until we have learned the equivalent abilities we had at that point, which will take quite a bit of work if you had a full and carefully selected datapad.
That is not to say the system is not good. In the end I think it is better, and we have far more specials. But let's stop pretending that those of us around prior to the CU did not lose something in the process.
That's a fair point. However, just about everybody lost significant equipment in the CU conversion. My point is that many of the posts I've seen today are complaints about the new system and I didn't want the developers to feel that their work was unwelcome. And just in case it matters I've been a creature handler for nearly two years now so I understand the long suffering of the profession.

Honestly.. how many of us hunt with every single pet in our datapads?
I have 2-3 "favorites" that I use, most of the others are rares or old friends that I don't hunt with, I just call out to hang out with or RP.

If you pay any attention to the observations of players that have experienced the live version the "complaints" are not about the new changes per se. They are about the broken pet AI, pets wandering away, not following commands, or simply getting lost on their own. Those dynamics do not apply to the new pet specials system. They apply directly to the broken pet AI.
What this means in all practical purposes is to require ever single creature handler, regardless of how you play, have to continuously use your pets in order to gain pet xp....using a broken pet AI.
They have, once again, put the cart before the horse. Fix the existing systems before creating game content that relies heavily on using those broken systems.

If I am taming a baby and am attacked by an adult, I don't stop taming the baby.
Unless this changed at some point, it has always been this way. When I tamed my gaping spider hunter, I was running a circle around it while its parent tried to bite me. It was rather comical after the fact. This was ages ago though, so I know this is how things worked back in the single digit publishes..

Hmmm, strange. I have been happier about the fixes to the AI than anything.
When I call my pet, he does not move until directed too--that will take a little getting used to, but at least he does not wander off. I just need to remember to command him to follow immediately after calling. In fact, that makes sense. I have called the pet and he is happily sitting there waiting for a command from me to know what to do.
When I send my pet after a target, and then tell him to come, he stops fighting and comes to me. Wow. I have so missed that.
When I send my pet after a target, and then direct him to attack another target, he changes to the new target. Woot! Once that target is dead, he then goes back to the original target. So cool! Not only was there a fix, but added goodness.
If I am taming a baby and am attacked by an adult, I don't stop taming the baby.
I can name a few more, but what am I missing here about the AI still being totally broken?
