I disagree with the belief that old pets should have these special abilities. This is a new game feature that is being added. All other professions have had the need to aquire new weapons, armor, and items, over the course of their life time. So too should CHs understand this concept. Honestly, how many of those rare tamed pets are doing nothing more then take up datapad storage space? Besides, it would appear that some of the relics from the past are now respawning once again. There is now the chance to once again tame these babies. Soon, some of the rares will no longer be as rare as they once where. Keeping the attitude of not learning the new Abilities will be the only truely rare CH ability, once this hits Live.

As long as you agree that (a) CH is exactly like every other profession and players choose it for exactly the same reasons as other professions, and (b) there's really no RPG in this MMORPG, just massiveness and on-line-ness ... then that's an entirely sensible viewpoint.

I don't think most veteran MCH's agree with those premises, and the failure of the dev team to recognize that demonstrates that their understanding of their own product continues to be miles wide and millimeters deep.

While I agree that not giving our old pets a chance to have specials isn't exactly fair, the only bad side of it is that this will waste time, unless there's absolutly nothing people can delete from their datapads. Personally, im deleting my female narglatches if they do prove to be too weak to be useful, mostly because I was never really attached to them anyway, then i'll just go and randomly tame things, take their abilities for myself, and then teach them all to old pets which I shall endeavor to train. All it requires is a CH to do a little more CHing...

actually they do, it was called the CU. I lost a vast majority of great weapons to conversion and CL additions.

"Don't forget you can teach creatures special abbilities, so you could train all those pets you have to learn specials gained from training new pets. That way your old pets can get exactly the specials you want them to have."

^ I suppose this is an easter egg / veteran reward in itself, unless we're inadvertently planning to use that in a way it shouldn't be used. Unlike new CH's to come, we are being allowed "blank slate" pets to which we can train ANY choice of abilities that we choose, when we learn them from new pets we tamed in the wild. Those new pets tamed in the wild will probably come with their own abilities, and I don't know if we'll be able to teach them abilities from other pets, or only ones unlocked by leveling them.

But it sounds like a good opportunity. Hopefully someone on TC will find out for us if you can tame one pet, learn its abilities, then train another pet to use those abilities even if it didn't naturally come with them.

I'm quite relieved at the recent news posted about existing pets.

how about this for the sentimental MCHs who cant find it in their hearts to part with the rare pets that they spent months looking for but will become absolutely useless in combat: taxidermy.

your pets have passed their prime, and if you only want them as trophies of the search, take them to a CH trainer who willmake them items in your inventory which are like BE untamed pets to drop at your house, but unlike BE pets in that you can't get them to the datapad.

i bet with the attention some rednames are giving our section the idea could be noticed and could possibly be considered.

If the special rate is really around 1 in 7 as Drashk suggests, then existing pets not having specials isn't quite as bad. If they are totally random and not species specific, moreso.

However, because our pets are changed everytime wild ones are (or BE pets through various patches), we have already had three or four "revamps". I find it odd that through every nerf our pets have changed to match the wild ones, yet the one time we get something good, they do not.

Considering that, it would be fair if our existing pets had the same random chance to get specials that the new wild pets have. If they want to make up for the year of "the Combat Revamp is coming", that we were specifically balanced first for, then a slightly better chance of specials might be taken as an olive branch.

(Yes, I am still bitter about that.)

Yes it is.

Since growth will be based off of experience I hope at least existing pets will be full grown

From what I am getting from the CH forums and TC, the pets you have now will be worthless pretty much as they will have no slots to learn any new tricks (maybe mount commands).

You will have to seek out babies of different animals that have the sloted commands automatically, if found then you learn that command and can slot it to creatures that you find and tame, mind you it will not be easy to get these commands as 1 out of every 7 baby of a certain type critter will have the command slotted that you can actually learn.

So delete all your critters and get your vasoline out because they just put ridges on that sand paper condom.

Ok this is truly lame

Ok when there are nerfs our pets get nerfed. Not even slots on our existing pets. Now thats lame

But if the better abilities are on rare pets and you happen to have spent a lot in game time getting these rare pets...its lame you have to do it again

Who said anything about rare pets having the better abilites? (Besides my wild guess listed above)

I know of at least 10 different abilities that have been mentioned so far, on /tcpa. All of which have been on your average, run of the mill, pets. Low CL babies appear to produce (L1) skills and high CL babies appear to produce (L2) skills.

Besides, rare pets aren't going to be as rare as they once were, since they will be spawning correctly again.

No one has thats part of the problem. My suspician is hat the better abilities will spawn on the more rare pets. We have seen no dev post stating how these commands are generated (the criteria). until we do I think it would be a goood assumption that the rare the pet the higher chance of a good ability
