Well level heads prevail, or will the screams of nerf due to the class already being at peak power and therefore compared to novices in elite combat professions cause knee-jerk reactions that make it live?

Ferzerp - Very Well Put!

Graeme - Name ONE other class in the game that has fear of running into battle? Fear of loosing hours and tens of thousands of credits because your group just had a bad rll of the dice. So by what you say your out with a group and the group yells "Krayt!!! Get IT!". You go "nope sorry guys I have to sit this one out, please don't attack it for another 45 seconds so I can store my pets because we just killed that other mob right there". Do you think they would 1) listen and 2) EVER invite you to a group agian?
"The fact remains, that they WANTED you to worry about your pets"..."Has anyone presented them with a better solution? " if you read posts about this issue you woud see solutions. 1. Insure pets like equipment 2. Involve BE with revilve. These are the best 2 IMHO. I personally posted that on incap a pet should not be callable for a certian amount of time to scale with its Challenge level. A newbie creature would be callable in about 5 minute where a Rancor I'd be quiet willing to not be able to use it for a few hours.

PerdanListallagon - Ummm you can't store you pets on a bad pull, they'll be agroed, you'll be waiting for 60 seconds if you can even pull them off a mob, even if you do they'll still be in combat every time a mob hits them, you'll be dead still yelling "FOLLOW ME!!!". If you are a sadomasocist you won't clone until you witness all your called pets get killed, then you'd just pull the power plug of your computer from the wall shouting obsenities.

Just taking something that Malgor said "Fighting with 3 Rancors and soloing stuff it takes a party of 10 to kill is overpowering" I know bounty hunters that regularly solo 20k ham mobs and they are not even with the best gear yet. I think they just need to up the difficulty on some higher than challenge 55 mobs.

sinrakin "..sense that creatures are "free". There is no effective limit on the rate at which they can be obtained and passed on to others". A T21 Rifle is free too. The Master Weaponsmith goes out sample the material. They spend a bit of time producing prototype. All Free. Time is what CH and artisians pay for their works

lorildeh - "a pet will become the FIRST target of every person on the opposing team". Actually the pet will be the 2nd target. Me barking out the command to attack will be the first target. 1 second after the battle starts I'll get shot by 3 head shots. My pet will go down just slightly slower maybe 5 seconds.
Also good point. Think about a novice CH with only 2 pets. Its bad. I got to MCH fast but then I'm between contract and have put in a lot of hours leveling. Made all my scouting xp solo because I hate ninja harvesters.

Olepi - That is a bit short sited. There are plenty of players now that can solo a Rancor without the best equipment. Also the rancor in RoTJ was a youth and abused. The trainer was also not a good trainer ie, the pet was poorly treated. He was probably crying half because he knew his pets death meant his death from Jaba.

Holo you NEED to look at this issue. Instead of Perma death what about these?
1. Insure pets like equipment
2. Involve BE with revilve.
3. I personally posted that on incap a pet should not be callable for a certian amount of time to scale with its Challenge level. A newbie creature would be callable in about 5 minute where a Rancor I'd be quiet willing to not be able to use it for a few hours.

That or you will see CH become nothing more then bottom feeding Bone/Hide/Meat harvestors because we won't risk grouping for fear of loosing so much. Groups don't want to kill blues/greens, They want to take those Dark Jedi's, Witches, Krayts, etc out and we'd be there saying "NO DON'T ATTACK MY PETS AREN'T STOR.....errr you attacked....my pets agro...I'm dead...my pets are dead....I Quit"

Been a CH during BETA, will be a CH in the future, just love the profession, yet I do have to disagree with most of you, because :

Who, in the first place, said CH were to be a strong combat profession ?

Not flaming you guys, and don't wish to be flamed either, but when I started out to be a CH in BETA, the only disapointment I had (apart from the bugs, but hey it was BETA) was that I had to kill a thousand creatures before I could tame a single one (and maskscent was horrible at the time, so no other option than slaughtering and skinning the poor beasts : harvest them).

Don't you guys have some pleasure just running in the wild, scouting, with your pet friend, etc... ? Or are most of you raising the poor beasts like middle-age CH for arena fighting PvP between Anchorhead and Bestine ?

Actually I really wanted to be a creature handler because I wanted lots of pets could show off and have a kind of petting zoo and I could take the little ones into a cantina andhave everyone flock round him (never expected there to be lots of CH's as I was expecting everyone to go for bounty hunter or such, as I was never in beta).

I have been novice CH a few days now and I am a little upset that the only means of getting higher in the profession is hunting with them, which ofcourse turns the class into a fighting class. Now I do mind having pets fight, as I think it is funny to see a bad type wander along and call you names and that you can set your pet on him, or have your pet look after you out in the wild. I am big into roleplaying, and have just not seen any of this really as of yet. So I tend not to go in for much PvP, and with the way the game works now I seem to only hunt alone to buiold my skills up as groups jut are not as effective as solo where you can solo red mobs with or without a pet for exp once you have pistol 4 and aim.

Also I am a casual gamer, so not looking forward to perm-death for pets. As I spend all time playing with them (ina role play manner, not just trick 1 or 2) only to find that they will die and I have to start again, but it just would not feel right losing the first pet and will not want to send a pet in to another fight again.

I have only had three pets, first I had to abandon because I needed a pet I could use and also found one for possible mount in the future and that was heart breaking. I can see where they are coming from with the fact that once you get a pet you need to forget it, let it die and tame another...otherwise whats the point or trading pets..etc Also on the other hand they want us to feel precious about our pets and never give them up, so why give us the options to do so and let them die so easily. If the devs could just decide on what they want the class to be or let us decide life would be so much easier.

Anyways, back to the original point...perma-death brings nothing to balancing the class out!!

Just caught this thread. Great points are made here, but yet again I think they are going to fall on deaf ears.

And Seiryuu, I am glad I am not the only one who caught that contradiction. First the DEVs state that we are a combat class, then they say that using your pets as weapons does not fit into their "vision" of CH...hmm

How about this. Lets have Holo or Q write up EXACTLY what their vision of a CH is. From what I have been reading from them, it appears their idea of a CH is someone who has mastered a weapon profession, and uses CH to just decorate their house with pets. Their main combat will not come from pets, but from the weapon profession. If that is the case, then I just want them to say so. Make it a note somewhere that you are not expected to fight with your pets, only to play with them.

Or better yet, they can rename the Creature Handler profession to Creature Groomers. We can go around taming wild animals, give them a nice clipping and shave, then release them back into their natural environment. Doesn't that sound like fun? Don't you want to pay $15.99 a month to do that?

Grr, there I go being sarcastic again, sorry. Once again, great points everyone.

Well, that is true Ferzerp, I got to agree...

On the other hand, you don't need to destroy the babies, but just release them (in front of an imperial base to annoy them !!!)

It's like scouting by having to kill to harvest... Why oh Why didn't they make scout XP like scouting things instead of taking your army knife to skin the remainings of the creature...

Oh well....

"I am sorry, I just don't see the 5-10 days it takes to grow a new pet as being that big an inconvenience." ~Graeme

Yes, but a new pet isn't Krunchy. The other x number of pets are not that single pet who I invested time into, who I named and actually treated as a companion. The Devs are forcing pets to become nameless weapons, not creatures we care about. The fact that they can't see that is maddening. ARE YOU LISTENING, DEVS? You aren't punishing the idiot with 3 rancors. You're punishing those of use who care about our individual pets!

The problems is as holo pointed out in beta, they don't know what to do with the class and haven't thought it out. We did not get a chance to do much beta testing because until the last few weeks you couldn't even use your pet in combat.

Yeah, but everything they are doing now goes against what we did learn in the time we had to test in beta.
