Thread: What does the currently in discussion topic of pet permanent death have to do with *BALANCE*?

I have to agree. The perma-death thing stinks. It hasn't taken me 10 days to grow my pet's though. t's taken me 5 days maybe. But still even then it isn't right. The time it's taken me to get some of them, then to train them, then to wait for them grow can be over with one bad call.

I mean I could see maybe if the creature recieved a death-blow it would take them time to heal like any other player. Maybe like it would require a set amount of time before you could call the pet again, but to go and destroy what we've worked for? I spent several hours and 8k credits the other night to go to endor and tame one of the animals there. Making them perma-death seems a little harsh to me.

First off, props to the original poster. Well said and a viewpoint I hadn't considered. Pet perma death is more of a penalty for playing this class then a balancing issue.

In response to the viewpoint expressed by Greene. I've heard others make your argument and its crap in my opion. The idea that pets are supposed to be held in high regard by their handlers makes sense. But what about the lives of those handlers, and every other class in this game. Shouldn't we all hold the lives of our chars in at least as high regard as our pets? The game certainly doesn't reflect any need to value one's life, because even if you can't be bothered to clone, you get it back when you die with very little downtime. So, everytime I am in a group I will be the only one there with anything of signicance to lose. This doesn't sound fair or fun to me.

I am not against perma death because I think your point is valid that the more things are valued the more they are worth. However, implementing such a severe penelty has to be done in a balanced way. I would call levying this on just one class the opposite of balance.

I am not someone who treats his pets poorly. I'm rather careful with my petseven though there is nothing to lose as of yet (call it rp, or whatever but I love my Dewys). But even if I am careful there is a chance something will go wrong be it lag, spawn pop, or just a bad call on my part andwill lead to death. As I said above, I wouldn't mind paying a price for misfortune or bad calls as long as everyone faces the same consequenses.

to graeme:

anarchy online for example and i played a engineer with a big nasty robot pet, also ptried to other pet classes

and yes alot fantasy games also (like 4 years everquest)

so now better rethink your statement, cause it makes no sense and it has no valid point.

more i dont need to say, its all posted in tonns of threads ;/ and it gets annoying

permadeath has not 1 reason for a balance, thats obviously.

i saw on no postings in alot posts not even one valid point how permadeath do any balance for the overpower of a CH. simply cause there is no point.

yeah but that is the problem regarding the rankor handler and his pet. That was HIS ONLY pet. IMO if you ahve a beast of that magnitude it should be your only pet to be able to control it would take all you have IMO.

Jabba had it and only one of them not two or three. It seams to me i see way too many of these running around.

as far as balancing the best way to do so is limit what level of creature handler can have what. i should not have been able to get my grand wrix nor my sludge panther when i did.

You know the thing about that creature handler that lost his Rancor.... he would be perma-dead too if he was killed. I agree we should have some sort of relationship with our pets but I don't think that making them perma-dead is in any way going to accomplish this. If anything it makes them more disposable at a higher level of CH. Gonna have to have a datapad full of Grand Wrixes. Slash, Slash2,Slash3, Slash4, and so on. And if you are not high level then you have massive downtime, aka time sink, to find a replacement pet because you can only have 2 or 4 pets.

Imagine how many times we will have to replace pets especially if they nerf the stats. I mean I don't plan on trying to solo a Krayt with my pet.. but accidents happen and sometimes you will get aggroed by something or an encounter may go bad on ya. This stuff just happens sometimes. Now, as a CH, I get a massive penalty. It's just not right. They should not penalize you for taking a certain profession. I know other classes have problems and are bugged but the DEVs want to give us problems... not even solving the already existing ones.

I totally agree that I shouldn't have got my Grand Wrix or Greater Sledge Panther when I did. (novice basiscally) I thought that as soon as I saw how good the stats were. I believe the "cert" system should be strict. Like the following.

As for Rancors, not sure of the HAM on one because I can't tame one yet and never have traded for a pet. And plpease keep in mind that these pets have very high HAMs but I don't believe they actually do that much damage, at least not Grand Wrix Greater and Sludge Panthers. But anyways here goes.

Rancor 11,000 HAM Only Master CHs. This goes for all the very high level pets.

Rancor 11,000 HAM Only Master CHs.

Greater Sludge Panther 7,000 HAM Make these Taming 3 and all other tier 2 skills.

Grand Wrix 5,500 HAM Make these Taming 2 and the rest of tier 2 skills.

Just an example. The reasoning behind the requirement for the other skill boxes besides just taming is so that people just can't go up the Taming tree to get their pets. People actually have to spend some skill points to be able to get good pets. Not just come into the profession go up one skill box and be able to get great pets. I think this will balance things out some. A BH won't be able to get a great pet to go along with skills that could solo anything on Endor without even having a pet.

Here is a cross post of something I made elsewhere earlier. It applies here as well. In other words, I agree with the original poster...here was my attempt to make the same point.

===========================================

One of the most disturbing things about the proposed pet permadeath is that it will actually discourage players from hopping into a fight and tanking alongside their pet. If the goal is to get people to stop sending their pets in alone to fight things, then this is a very poorly thought out change.

I play a TKA/CH and do not use overpowered pets like rancors. Instead, I usually use my trusty plains tusk cat Lil’kitty (who I am quite fond of). As a result, I wind up bearing the brunt of the damage in almost every fight. Lil’kitty just helps out by nipping at the heals of the target and earns his CH xp. Since I am the tank, I die frequently in any sort of tough fight. Of course tough fights are the ones that are interesting. Of note, I have died even to non-aggressive monsters that are flagged ‘killer = 0’.

Under the proposed change, if I die and then Lil’kitty then gets incapped - *poof* no more Lil’kitty. Hmm…sounds like a likely scenario for any challenging fight when I am the one tanking. Basically, because *I* am the one dying first, I lose my pet? How does that make sense? If I had stayed back and just healed Lil’kitty and let him do all the work there would have been little risk of him dying. But if I try to fight alongside him in a tough battle then he dies.

If you want us to fight alongside our pets this is a counterproductive move. Tough battles are the interesting ones. You are basically forcing anyone who play’s a CH into a very conservative non-risk taking play-style if they care at all about their pets. Problem is that is BORING. I play a game to have fun, not to grind away on thousands of easy battles that are no challenge.

That being said, if these changes do go in I will just unsubscribe. It’s certainly not worth the aggravation and I refuse to kill endless gorgs or the like just to level.

Do you wantour pets to die? Then make every other class lose 7 to 10 days exp when they die (just to show what its like to watch your pet grow). I don't like waiting for my pets to grow up just to watch them die and have to start all over. I hope everyone does realize a baby is not a greatgodly creature that can take out 150 creatures at once. The only thing it may kill is a nother baby.

This is what I feel on the matter of killing my pets. Sure, they need to fix problems to CH, but I dont believe destroying the class is the way to go.

JUST BE CAREFUL YOUR CLASS MAY BE NEXT.

as far as balancing the best way to do so is limit what level of creature handler can have what. i should not have been able to get my grand wrix nor my sludge panther when i did. though i have to admit i loved crawling on my belly with maskscent on (it works fine for me against agros) and trying to coax the wrix away from the mottleds then try to train him with few bonuses to my taming. still though i ahoud not have been able to have him at that level. i should have had to content myself with a regular wrix. if you want to balance the class permadeath is not a balance. first only a master should have a rancor and only one at that. a bounty hunter walking around with a rancor is retarded. if i wanted i could take novice, then buy a rancor. and they still are looking for balance? that sums it up for me. i have dumped a lot of time into my ch and gathering my pets from around the galaxy and training them. when i want a rancor i shall be a master and go get one(emphasis) on my own. confident that sithstalker my constant companion will be ther safe at my side.

You guys are making 1 heck of a point. We would have to spend days recouping from 1 mistake, whereas any other class only need make a corpse run. heres a huge *BUMP*!
