LOL, I posted this a week before that patch went live and I was eaten alive by all the "where getting a patch -s t f u" posts. I was concerned at that time CH was looking at a EXP grind that would make a Master Jedi cringe. I held my peace to see the EXP requirements upon going live.

Well now we see and it’s clear SOE vision of the future of CH – Grind more EXP than a Master Jedi and be 2/3 as powerful IF a fully tricked out complete maxed pet will even make a CH a elite class profession in more that just skill point cost and title.

I've been a CH from the day of release. Anyone want to by a nice lvl 70 reclusive sheer mite cheap? Not the most uber pet ever but a friend that has shown loyality that I could only wish SOE showed their customers.

If I'm going to be FORCED to grind millions and millions and millions and millions and millions and…. of EXP just to be VIABLE again guess it's time to finally give in to the dark side.

My pets go up of auction on forum in three weeks. Maybe I’ll get enough for a CDEF rifle and start over after 2 years of watching SOE ruin the most unique and wonderful class I could have ever imaged.

I envy the fortitude of those old time vets that stick it out. I can’t stomach anymore of SOE version of love.

Older ch's do not hate it. They hate the fact the implimentation did not allow for any riembursmant they ghave done for years

Oh dear.. she says with a slight smile on her face.

Ive been an MCH for getting on for a couple of years now. I see things from both sides of the arguement. The new system is fun. I like it. But it works best if you are starting the profession. Then as you level and tame new pets you're levelling and learning the new specials at the same time. By the time you reach MCH you'll have a nice selection to use on your new Critters. An existing MCH cant do that. To retrain our pets as we want them and to replace the specials they had when we tamed them, we have to go out and search out and learn every single ability out there first.

My first day.

Decide which of my old pets are destined to be sigh deleted. One spot isnt going to be enough for the new taming system.

Decide on priorities, if I want to train pets for people Im going to need to learn as many specials as fast as possible. Toss coin and decide I better do the higher level abilities first and head off to Dathomir.

Tame a nice pet with Bleed 2. Celebrate. Realise it will take ages fighting with it to learn ability. So set about attacking Rancors. End of first day. Abilities learnt none.

Decision. What do I do when Ive learned Bleed 2. Do I go out and train a pet and then train it with Bleed or not. Realise no. That is a final decision I'll be stuck with that might not be right. This is a permanent one off thing, I have to train the right abilities to the right pet first time.

Day 2

Find a nice Nocuous Kamarith baby and set about chasing it up and down mountains in the dark. Hilarious fun. It was enjoyable. For the first five attempts. But after the tenth failed tame and being chased off 3 times my blood pressure was going through the roof. It took about 15 attempts to tame it, and of course it didnt have an ability to learn. The amount of fails was simply ridiculous sigh.

Repeat a few times.

Well you get the picture. The system is designed to work so that people learn the new pet abilities as they level though CH. For people already with MCH the new system is a lot harder. You have to acknowledge they've already ground their way through the profession. And this is being like say a Jedi having all their fancy light saber moves taken away and given new ones that takes as long to grind though as they took to get Jedi in the first place, while a new one only has to do all that work the once. You cant compare gaining the new skills by levelling compared with having had skills, had them removed and then having to go out and relearn them all. And retrain 20 odd pets.

But Im not argueing with the new system is really is fun and I do like it. Itjust is going to take me many many months at the least, to get H back to where she was. I simply dont have the same rl time to spend in the game as I did when I was grinding CH originally. LIke I said I like the new system, I love the idea of being able to customise my pets as I want. I wish you all well, but as things go, after three days, I know it is going to take me a long long time to learn all the new abilities to replace the pet specials I once had. And that makes me a little sad.

The person who said existing MCH's were afraid of hard work. Im sorry but that makes my normal gentlenature start boiling. Ive ground through several professions in this game, Im levelling 5 toons in EQ2. But I have a life, and a sister with learning difficulties and chronic schizophrenia, and two elderly parents to take care of, plus a few health problems of my own. I simply dont have the time to go out and spent hour after hour re grinding CH. It's not being lazy. It's being realistic. Ive ground out this profession once, now I play to have some fun, I refuse to grind it non stop again. If it takes meyears to get back to where I was, so be it. It'll have to take years.

Atleast it gives me more reasons to go on missions other than to hoarde xp for fs conversation (which doesn't interest me a whole lot). Plus, in contrary to pre CU, I don't need an BE and a ton of patience to customize my pets anymore.

Luxora, How about you read my other Posts? I pick the 1 maybe good thing from this patch and you jump down my throat? I have been here through all the nerfs. Look at the reg date. Read my posts. I wanted the specials fixed. They worked (mostly) pre CU and were broken. I was at fanfest where they stated they would get this fixed. Guess what they didnt fix them. So we have this. At least it is new content. I do not see this as all roses and rainbows. But I am not some noob. I know what CH were asking for. Read some of the posts I bump from more than a year ago. If you had to take 1 thing from this patch that was to your liking what would it be? Far be it for me to try and encourage any newer CH to not give up. Take your attitude some where else. ktksby

Luxora: have you used your pets? guess what? They do what you tell them to do! Guess what else? If you want to, you have a way to make your pets even better than they were just a few days ago. Guess what else? I said IF YOU WANT TO! You don't have to do any of the work to use pet specials. BUT! Get this: your pets are still better than they were a few days ago, because the AI has been fixed. Your pets are better now than they used to be and you want to complain? ok. to quote someone I consider a good and wiseperson: ktksby

so far im very divided on tihs new system, i love the idea of customising our pets and some of the new specials seme really interesting

but (i knwo you were wiating for that wor dand i hate to disapoint) my pets used to ahve working specials and with this new system ive now got to work hard for a very lnog time jsut to get bakc to wher i was, im somewhat enjoying hunting for the spceials im after but im not enjoying leanring tohse specials fomr the pets once i have them, and im relaly ont enjoying haveing to treat those tames as throw away pets its jsut not the type of ch i am ive never liked releasin my pets yet now im having to release a lot fo pets jsut to get bakc what i had beore and had worked hard to get and i had worked har,d id studied th epet sid cehcekd swgcreatures for info and it carefulyl chosen every pet in my datapad for either its stats, specials or asthetics.

like many i was annoyed when we lsot specials with te cu but wnhe i hard that they woudl be coming bakc i chose to stay aournd and see what woudl happen , ive seen the changes and to be honest they remind me of the simple fact that swords have 2 edges thers good but thers bad with it we finalyl gian the versatility we were promised but with it we have to grind experince with pets we dont actually wnat in our datapads im quite happy to hunt with my pet and enjoy doing so, im equally happy to go hunting for pets with that one special attkac im after for a spceific pet what i really realyl hate aoubt this system is having to kepe pets i dont wnat in my edatapad whiel i go kill anything that moves with tmhe jsut so i cna get rid of the damn thing and be one step clsoer to being able to go retame the pet i was forced to give up just so i coudl get it

summary

new specials system plus points and minus points

plus points
1. there is once more a reaons to go looking for babies and taming them
2. hunting with your pets actually improves thier abilities
3. we are finally the veratile profession we were promised we would be
4. if somoene wants a pet with certian abilities they ahve to come to a ch who in turn actualyl has to work with the pet that requires trinaing levleing it to open ability and tirnaing slots so thy cna customise it to order this means that our services will have some demand as we cna trina someones mount to be more resiliant thna tiher bike, or thier little show pet to defend them from attacks and buy them time or........

minus points
1. we are forced to girnd pet we dont want jsut so we can get abilities from them to put onto pets whihc in many cases already had those very same abilities a few months ago
2. we hve to give up a potentialyl highly valued tame jsut to regina what pre cu we already had
3. the various bugs fomr before and as a result of this new system
4. top elvel specials are at least potentialyl available to non-ch's sevearly redunig the features that remian unique to us

now th eplus points outweight the minus points so its overall a good change so far however the minus points are like some gone off milk or food you eat by accident it doesnt matter how nice the next thing you consume is thers still a lingering bad taste in your mouth that at least partially ruins it

Regardless of whether you like the changes, or not, if it feels like a grind to you, then that's a good sign you should be doing something else. Grinding = evil.

Surely not all grinds are bad, perhaps the CHness of CH will make up for it? We've always known our profession is one of the most fun to use after all.......

From Zero? Did all the pets in your databad suddenly disapear and get all their stats set to 1? Funny, mine (except for the nargs) are exactly the same as they were pre patch 21. I don't need to do a single thing to make them just as good as they were yesterday. However if I fight with them (lord forbid I should use my pets in combat) they will get better and better. How bizare is that? They might get better than they were yesterday, a time in which there was basicaly no way to make your pets any better than they were.

People don't mind so much having to play the game to use their pets, they mind starting from zero after two years. Why should they waste the time when some nitwit in a suit is going to get another 'bright idea' six months from now and flush their work down the drain AGAIN?

Well in a sense people have already had to start back at zero with their pets, post-CU pets were no longer able to use their specials that they were born/created with. It seems that a lot of people just aren't getting it.

1) Pet Levels (CL) stays the same (they never change)

2) Pet size gets smaller (have to level them up to get original size again).

3) Pets get special attacks again <----- (this is the big one)

I like the idea of getting my pets to actually be able to use special attacks again, the idea that my pets stats are always going to be the same, no more CL6 baby doing 4 damage until I've had it out for 24 hr.s +, KILLER BABY BUNNY WABBIT. The leveling up or at least the amount of leveling seems a bit depressing but should still be a fun though as a very long and arduous task

Bottom line is vets should have had all ability slots opened on all their existing pets

Now vets to compete have to go find the abiities and get - fun content

THEN

Regrind their old pets to open up slots to use them in a full datapad - This is the issue and the HUGE amount of XP grinding
