Thread: CH XP
CH XP is determined by your combat level. The pet's XP is determined by the pet's combat level.
For example,Sio is now at level 75 (only 992k CH XP from master!). He can send a level 20 dune bantha in against a level 23 gungan outcast and only get 1 CH XP, because the gungan is 52 levels below him...no challenge at all. But if the dune bantha is ungrouped, it gets over 1000 critter XP per kill. If I group with the bantha, though, it gets XP based on the group level, that is, on level 75. So it would get 1 critter XP per kill.
You need to fight things with your critters at or near your combat level to get CH XP.
What Sio said.
Plus, in the post CU system, the xp reward for the kill gets split between CH / weapon depending on the amount of damage you do with each. So if you do most of the damage with a rifle, you'll get more rifle xp than CH xp.
So to maximize your CH xp per kill when going solo, go against creatures around your CL, use the highest CL pet you qualify for, and group with your pet so it'll do more damage. And if you've got Management 3, you do more total pet damage with two small pets than one big pet. Let your pets do all the work against lairs, since those give a lot of xp and aren't fighting back.

hehe so basically keep my pet ungrouped and I will get good xp aslong as the thing its attacking is no more than 5 levels below it. I think I understand nowlol Thanks for your advice and I will give it a try later,

Not exactly.
There are TWO kinds of XP now.
Your XP, as a CH, which is calculated based on your combat level, against the target.
Your pet's XP, based upon the combat level of the pet, against the target.
I can send a flewt against nightspiders all day and while the flewt will gain XP continuously in non-trivial amounts, I as a CH will get a whopping 1 XP because I'm at least 70 levels above it with my combat level.
I can grind level 10 pets against level 20 mobs all day and level the pet, but I'll get next to no XP for the effort. For me to gain XP asa CH the mobs have to be a challenge to me, not necessarily to my pet (although usually they are QUITE a challenge to my pet). I run BH missions, for example, at level 75 and use my pets to help, they'll get full XP for their efforts, grouped or ungrouped, and I'll get some CH XP for it, although as sciguy points out, it won't be that much because there's a fixed amount of XP you get for killing anything and its split amongst weapons, CH, and medical, depending upon how much damage is done and how much you heal yourself in the process.

Yep, and one of the least worthwhile as well. I am regrinding CH on my alt because I have been a CH since shortly after launch. I was surprised after training the CH novice box a few days ago. I was getting 1 XP with a CL 8 pet attacking enraged rancors in a 4 person group with only one CL 80 member. My CL is 17. Go figure....This XP system makes NO sense.

I settled for 400xp each in a group killing lvl 80+ mobs (only I didnt attack and everyone else and my pet do the work)
It's pretty difficult to find a group that will allow you to do this. I had a hard time finding a group that would let me join. As a CL 17, I wasn't helping a lot with the pet AND my rifle.

Here's what I do that works quite well for me.
First I group with my lvl 30 probot and call my pet out, "dont group the pet" add 30 to the pets cl and hunt targets as close to that number as possible and use both the pet and the droid to attack but dont help fight just keep a good supply of droid repair kits and pet stems handy *Do not use regular stems or medic heals it will put you into agro and also reduce the pets xp*
Example of this stratedgy in action.
I group my lvl 30 probot and call out one of my lvl 23 gsp's 30+23=55 Now i find a level 50-60 target "lots of them on dant by reb base" and I give both droid and pet the attack command - Most of the time the droid take the brunt of the assualt but it normally only takes about 1/4th damage to its health bar.
This is also important "Avoid agro" while doing this try to stay out of the other targets range "65m" they will come after you although your not attacking anything. and do not use medic heals only use droid and pet stems
For more xp but higher risk I'll use 3 gsp's and my droid on cl 70-80 targets
Hope this helps on your grind
