Often when a creature wont except a name try a variation or better yet a known good name (like one another pet has for a test.) As mentioned the filters are strange, they used to refer to any restricted name as "obscene" but they corrected that as many restricted names were not obscene. If the pet takes the known good name then there is no bug just a filter.

One more thought from the FAQ:

How do I name pets?

First you have to be able to train 4 different commands. Now to actually name the pet you have to bring up the radial menu, select a command to train, then say the pets name then the command like "Kitty s" without the " " marks. Also when using the /tellpet command to name pets the first letter of the name has to be lowercase. /tellpet Kitty s will not work, but /tellpet kitty s will.

Yeah, but DAMN I wish they would relax the naming rules. Do you have any idea how many times I've tried to name one of those ancient durni-things from Endor 'Killer-rabbit-with-big-pointy-teeth'?

Teach the pet four different commands, each starting with the same word.

So training "Fido attack" for attack, "Fido stay" for stay, "Fido guard" for guard, and "Fido group" for group should have it respond with "Fido?", then get renamed. If you want consistent commands, you'll have to re-train those actions back to "attack", "stay", "guard", and "group".

Although I think I saw some posts where BE pets weren't liking new names. Is this a wild tame or a BE pet?

Its the same as it always was. Train four different commands using the pets name to preface the command.

/tellpet bob sit

/tellpet bob attack

/tellpet bob jump

/tellpet bob die

Then, if the name passes muster wtih the filters it will say its name. If not, you need to pick a new name.

As a tip, train the commands normaly first so that you don't have to keep re-trying when it refuses to learn one. You can go back and change them to your normal commands after naming.

hi guys. i had a question about naming pets also and found this thread.

i am not a CH but gave my Varactyl and a CuPa to a MCH for training. he taught all the important things, group, follow, trick 1, attack, etc and gave them back to me.

can i then use the /tellpet [new name] [learned command] to get the new name to stick?

No, only a CH canchange a pets nameusing the training commands. The /tellpet command is only to tell your pets toexecute their commands without spamming everyone around like Spatial does.

It works the same way it always has: train at least four different voice commands starting with "{name} {command}".

Pets do use the same name filter as players, vendors, droids, etc. So you can't name a pet a curse word, or something like "Skywalker".
