Thank you for all the responses, I usually solo but wanted to start grouping and this was the first large group. I know to not bring out large pets on confinded spaces, and I though everyone used the "tab" or assist the leader to target now I know better.

Some people use tab, some don't. Some complain about pets, some don't. There are several different control configurations depending on how you have the game set up. The default of using the keyboard arrows to move and mouse to turn doesn't leave a hand free to hit tab with. If you are using just the mouse to move, then you are hitting the tab key and function keys.

Pets being useful or not isn't the question, it is people perception of them not being useful that causes the problems. Maybe once some nice pets come out of this system that perception will change.

Remember the good ole days when the first thing people asked in a group was who had pets for tanking.

Honestly, I have hunted with so many random groups and many with my guild and not once been asked to store my pets. I have been asked to ungroup them to make room for more players, but never asked to put them away. I probably wouldnt receive a request like that too well. I actually get more questions about CH and request for pets than complaints. I think it also helps that being a CL80 and a MCM I bring an advantage to a group for mission level and heals. Group grinding these days is such a joke anyway, everything is dead so fast how would anyone have time to complain. I also agree anyone not tabbing is probably missing out on some XP. Something I found this weekend that seems to be consistent is that if many MOBs are around and you are tapping a lair for more spawns, hitting shift+tab will target the closest lair spawn, rather than tabbing through a series of bols that are 100m away.

Totally Agree with Dotck

Good to see some of the experienced combat CH's add some good feedback.

If used properly pets can add value with Crowd control duties. I have set up macros for each of my pets so that I can send them in to attack individual creatures. If the group pulls too many I can have the pets tankthe adds while the group can focus on the target.

I am really hoping that the new specials will make my crowd control even more effective. I am the only CH in my guild but they are all elite players so I don't have to teach people how to use assist and target commands properly....other than being the target of several CH jokes I have never been ask to store my pets from guild members.

I have an idea to get back at all those pet haters.....

Get together with other Ch's and create a herd of Uber KD/Hamstring/Pinnning special spaming Dewbacks....go overt and swarm the enemy! the noise alone will drive them crazy Now with the states being spammed on them they will not be able to move.

Any CH's on Tempest send me a tell and we can start to build a herd of terrifying beasts.....we can also give our guildies lvl10 pets with cool specials to build up the herd.

Oh yeah...all those CH haters will soon feel the power of the Death Herd.....strike down the crazed durni and your journey to the dark side will be complete.

If it isn't targeting then what is it? Please do add something useful to the conversation.

Being the 'jerk with the pet' in the group will score you no points. Yes the problem is halfway theirs for not being able to play the game better. However even those that can play like that often find just using the mouse easier. It is a game after all, why make it more complicated than it needs to be. Hence why people don't like pets. The usability of pets do need a lot of work. This is just one of many issues.

Choku are knee high at best. This problem isn't one with targeting. This is a percieved problem by naive and/or unskilled players. Now if I were to pull out my lvl 70 Rancor on the vette I would understand the crys of "Put the F-N pet away!" But if I have him out in a grind group outside on Bols or Gurks I wouldn't and have never heard that. He is SO huge that his legs are just like 2 other group members and his crotch is much higher then the average height of a player

Mouse clickers cause more overpulls and deaths then tabbers.
