Well, congrats on finally getting answers Vert (although the multiple pets answer appears to be only partially correct) ...

And now, the timetable for fixes? I think I can speak for all CH's who have been here 2+ years when we echo that refrain we heard so many times about the state of our profession:

"It'll be fixed in the combat balance!"

Why I oughta .... nyuck nyuck nyuck.

1 pet better than 3?

That's not what real world trials have shown me so far. My damage output with 3 pets is much, much higher despite the level differences. They individualy do less damage but added together its much more. Either the level mechanic is currently broken in some way or this dev dosn't actualy know how the system works in practice.

Just close your eyes, ignore the "numbers" on your pets and justtry 3 vs 1 against identical creatures and see what happens.

I WILL test this tonight and let everyone know what I learn.

As promised, I tested this last night....

I am CL64 and I made this test against a CL65 Gurk Lair on Lok. To test this I first killed a lair mob with my CL70Razorcat to get a baseline of my damage. My CL70 pet did around 209 damage to the Gurks each attack and hit pretty much every attack. Then I switched to a level 38 and a level 32pet to compare results.

First, keep in mind that all grouped pets get elevated to the level of the CH for the purposes of 'To Hit' bonus. However, damage level and HAM is not affected. As a result, two level 30ish petsseemed to have no trouble hitting the gurks. They each did around 130 damage per attack. So the net result was faster damage. However, the gurk seemed to constantly attack only one of the pets and ended up killing it where my single CL70 survived. Also, multiple pets seemed to be more likely to aggro other gurks in the lair so I ended up fighting multiple mobs more often. But I can't state this definatively. I did notice I was more likely to get adds last night than I had it previous nights so this might not be because of the multiple pets.

So my thoughts are if you're hunting in a group with a good tanking player (like a duo with a TKM), use a group of three pets for max damage without taking aggro on your pet(s). If you're solo or depending on your pet to tank, use the single large pet.

Not to be rude. its not my intent.

All professions got a Q & A, So this wasn't anything special in that we were singled out and were respectively given to long awaited answers.

As for Q- 1 & 2, although good news it's still a little too late for an answer we have been asking since TC.

In all this time they have ignored these questions and just now answer them to appease a comunity in revolt and plug leaking accounts and cash flow from they're coffers.

While an answer is to any question may be percieved as a step forward I look at the the actual reply and ask "So you broke everything with this early push of an inadequate update and thats why you were afraid to reply to our pleading and begging for an answer to these questions earlier?"

As for Q - 3

This has always been something of an issue here with the majority of creature handlers. 3 pets have never been very useful and many requests have asked for some viability on this aspect of the game. I'ts been brought up many times since my first day on the forums.

Considering how they again are asking for help and input (see Smed's Letter).I find this typical and not very encouraging since years of asking for some form of 3 pet viability, other than pets performing tricks in public, has been totally ignored and over lookedin this new sytem. While actually making a 3 pet combo less viable.

Sorry but my faith is lacking, just as they're communication shall be for another12 months.

Yes, unfortunately with the balance system it is no longer practical to have multiple pets of varying levels in use atone time.-Still trying to rationalize this one. How can 3 pets be less effective than 1? There are more targets to handle, and could cause a state of confusion. Animals that attack in packs are usually more effective than solo hunters. The Devs need to implement a system of commands that are multi-pet specific so that with the right tactics 3 lvl 23 pets could take out a lvl 70 one. But please fix our profession bugs before starting something new.

Yeah, I would love something like that. Perhaps something along the lines of Ultima Online's "pack instincts" system. Where multiple pets controlled by the same handler get a direct stat bonus for working together in a group. In that particular case, the pets had to be of the same "pack mentality" (canine, feline, arachnid, etc) to get the bonus. That could be realized in SWG in many forms. Health, Damage, Resists, Embolden-style group special attacks (as you mentioned), etc.

Another Idea would be to add a pet taunt or something along them lines?

The answer to number 3 is irritating but expected. The other two I'm glad to hear.

I wish they'd give us tamable level 80 pets so our pets could stand up to content at our max level... they still die pretty fast at level 65-70.

lol...sorry, found this funny Ko-al, uh, you're the correspondent, go give them the suggestion and see what they say.

Disclaimer: This was not a flame, Ko-al is still new to the job and could possibly be suffereing from NCI (new correspondentitis.)

Reality: Okay, it was a joke and it probably flopped. So sue me. lol

Ko-a posted that three days before he was named correspondent. Not sure if that's part of the joke, but it would have to be pre-emptive NCI in that case.

Curses, foiled again.....lol...No harm done, was just doing a little ribbing at the new guy, like I did you vert. Either way, good to see some feed back from anyone. Let's just hope for the best, and try not to expect the worst.
