Thread: Crafters Screamed, No Nerf For Them. Creature Handlers Screamed, No One Cared.
A very good thread gentlemen, thanks for the responses.
But no one has refuted my initial point - CHs screamed about their nerf, which is only human, butno one cared. The devs, suits and the vast majority of SWG gamers were against CHs. That's three strikes and we were out.
In the case of the cancelled crafting nerf, the devs were absolutely for it. I can't give you the link, but if you search, you will find Q-3PO or some other suit clearly stating that the devs crafting nerf was cancelled by the suits because the vast majority of crafters were appalled by it. So in the crafters case, they only had one strike against them, the devs. They were saved from a horrible nerf and I'm glad for 'em. It's good to see somebody win one against the devs.
There are several crafting classes, but only one CH class. it's a numbers game. And Sony is gonna do whatever gets the most numbers as monthly subscribers.
I can't argue against your point.
It is a matter of numbers, and multiple, well established masters on a number of servers announced that if the crafting nerf went through, they were gone.
The prospect of economies on several servers (to include Bria and Ahazi) collapsing due to well established, well known high profile crafters leaving was more than the suits were prepared toface, I think. Over 200 crafters on Bria announced their intention to cancel their accounts. This got attention.
It wasn't just the pure number of people complaining, it was the argument. The reasons for the crafting nerf were all flawed. SOE thought it would open the market to the new crafter, but after some logical arguments realized that it would actually widen the gap, so decided to tank the whole idea. Opposition to the idea was pretty much universal amoung all crafters ( I don't have hard facts, but I would say less than 1% was in favor of the idea). With the CH nerf some hate it some love it. There was no universal opposition. I think if all the CH's hated the idea and voiced their discontent, SOE would have listened.
I also want to comment on some of the people complaining about the bugs and saying they are going to protest: Have you peopled played any other profession? I tend to doubt it because most of you don't realize how good CH's have it. You want something to complain about try being a Squad Leader where the only worthwhile thing is the jokes you can pull with /sys Congratulations you have opened your Force Sensitve Slot! While this is hysterical to do to noobs, doesn't really make for an elite profession. Or how about being a DE where you are a crafting profession, but only about 2% of the community finds your product useful. Or how about Image Designer where you spend 3/4 of your playing time trying to figure out what your customer is asking for and you still can't get it right so the customer leaves in a huff and you're still broke. I've been playing the game since it was released and with all my different toons I'vedone a lot of professions, and I have to say CH was one of the LEAST broken professions. Now if I'm a Dev and I have to manage my time and resources between CH with a few minor bugs or Squad Leader a totally usless Elite Profession, I'm sorry CH is going on the back burner for awhile.
Just my .02 credits YMMV
Partially has to due that the numbers of crafters are far greater than CH's. Also, one of the reasons for the crafting "fix" was to give more of a chance to Novice Crafters. But it had the exact opposite effect, it pretty much would have eliminated anyone without 12 experiment points from being able to compete. Since there are an extremely low amount of 12 point crafters per server, you could probably guess what would happen to prices.
