That is my point, I do not know why they feel they have to grind. I am not trying to give you a hard time. I simply do not understand you point. What I have seen in my guild and group is the hard core grinders seem to have a higher quit rate then the ones who slow down and try to experience the whole game. Your experience maybe different.

Im trying to help you understand
My first profession was dancer on Lorelai I ground it out fast and was let down.
Alot of grinders do it for many different reasons but the underlying factor is that they are trying to reach the end game.
If you hadnt noticed there are a lot of posts about such and such being the end game in many online games.
In Asheron's Call it was lvl 126
In Dark Ages of Camelot it was lvl 50 and the Realm vs Realm that takes place at lvl 50
EQ and UO also had their so called end game.
In this game GCW, Jedi, and Master of such and such are being touted as the end game.
Once these players reach what they thought was the end game they find it to be a disappointment and leave.
To reach these players you need to get their minds off grinding towards that goal of the end game.
Telling them not to grind has the opposite effect , it makes them grind even harder.
Help them to understand that its the friendships and rivalries they make, that make this game such a joy to play.

I see what you are saying. I subscribe to the same theroy there is no end game. We have a different feeling about the grind. When I say grind I am talking about the repetative task to reach one goal or another. It has nothing to do with end game to me. It may be a grind for money, Title, rare items, could be anything.
I did not intend grind to mean achive the end game. That is not why people leave. They do not leave because they grind to the end and there is nothing more. They leave because the grind has blinded them to the real fun of the game and boredom sets in. So by telling newer players(some experienced ones too) to control the grind is not encourageing them to reach the end. It explains to them there is much more here then an end to achieve. There is not real end. Your last sentence is exactly my point.

Hi gang,
I think for power gamers the whole point of any game is to reach the "end". When you finally reach the "end" you put aside the game and move on to the next game to power play until you reach the "end" game.
What software companies need to realize is that in a MMORPG the RPG is what can actually keep your player base, not the "end" game thrill.
As an athlete we are driven to the ultimate goal, to win the championship. I have been privileged in my life to win a few championships with a team and personally. I get there and I say to myself, "what the heck is there to be excited about, the 'End" of my quest is being victor but now that I am here, so what."
I realized in this game and others that the game is the end not reaching some pre-determined point. The game is the end game, the role playing, the interaction, the adventure. Now what we need to make the RPG, of SW more interesting is more role playing type things. More quests, more ways to interact as a group, not huge solo groups but real groups. To that end SOE needs to work this game a little more constructively.
