Thread: The CH nerf...what should replace the current system.
As others have pointed out, the Challenge Level (which I believe you need at least 50 Creature Knowledge to see) already accomplishes this. Or at least, it would if it was more tightly enforced.
I think the main problem we're seeing right now is inexperienced CHs taming things (or being transferred things)with challenge levels that should be way above their Taming skill. A Novice Creature Handler (or one with just Taming I) going out to get a Greater Sludge Panther or Giant Sand Beetle shouldn't be happening at all. Instead, it's the norm.
IMHO, Novice Creature Handlers should be using bunnies and squirrels... not massive uber beasts. Those should all be obtainable only around Taming IV-Master.
I'd like to start off by saying that I agree withpretty mucheverything that Tarrana has said.
I am a CH and I think that the current system is good with a few tweaks. The most obvious is that CH handlers of lower levels are able to get higher level tamed pets. The following is a quote from the manual:
Transfer: Transfers ownership of the pet to another player. You can only transfer the pet to a player who has the proper skills to tame and control the creature.
Now this tells me clearly that the thing with the novice CHs getting rancors is a bug.So please stop saying it should be nerfed on that basis. It's not the CHs fault for there being a bug. BTW I am glad to see that they fixed the bug that allowed for CHs to have out more pets then they should. Good Work! Now fix this bug/exploit. Sorry, but there will always be ppl taking advantage of exploits. Thats why you should /bug and get it fixed.
I can't speak for everyone else, but I have not found going up the CH tree that easy or fast. I am finding it a little easier to get CH XP the futher up the CH tree I go, using Tame/Train/Release. But this is by no means no faster then a crafter who just grinds the good XP items.
First off, I agree with the fact that a novice CH doesn't need to be able to use a pet that is only obtainable through high levels of taming skill. I, as a CH, think this isn't right. I really don't see any reason CH needs to transfer pets at all.
Second, to the guy saying all CH's exploit the system with the one hit full exp thing...Obviously you don't see me running from city to city, exploring and taming every baby I see. Barely any of my CH exp so far has been gotten through battle, most has been through taming. I don't exploit the system, so don't assume I do.
Third, we all know there is a nerf coming, it's a matter of when it happens, and what it'll be. I see no reason to discuss it now until it happens, then people will complain more than they are now.
I get tired of people whining about how they hate CH's, just because there are a few people ruining the class for the rest of us.
How many masters in other professions have you seen?
With higher level pets you get less ch exp but you can fight reds or groups of reds. This is ridiculous in my opinion. It makes leveling up marksman skills far to easy. They definitely need to tweak the ch skill line. Pets dont even seem to die.. They will nerf this class. No point in flaming somebody trying to make suggestions.

If you had Master Doctor or combat medicc do think it would make leveling up combat stuff easier? Or how about TKA Master and wanted to lvl scout. People seem to forget that CH is not a novice skill it is a upper tier profession just like others.

It would definitely help to be a master doctor or TKA master. The problem i see with CH is that even tho its a upper tier profession it only requires 2 skill lines to get it.Getting to novice CH took me about 3 days. Getting to master brawler and master medic would take much longer and help half as much. Most of the people that want to level up ch use smaller pets anyways. I just think that as it stands ch is far to powerful at early levels. If the damage a higher levelpet (used by a higher level ch)does is on par with a higher level rifleman (or whatever) then im cool with it. As it stands tho you can have a novice ch killing mobs that any straight combat people would get slaughtered by.
A word about "Novice CH" not being able to use larger pets.
I'm sure you all are seriously tired of hearing about this complaint, as am I, and I agree that a NOVICE creature handler has no right to have a rancor without a penalty. Larger hostile beasts should be for those farther along the chain, but not for only those who have hit master. I would like to consider myself fairly far along (having management 3 and empathy 2 and almost enough xp for management 4) and the idea that I should be limited to using smaller pets simply because I haven't gotten to the taming line is rediculous. I certainly have enough xp at this point that I could have gotten to creature taming 4, and I don't see why I should be limited to smaller pets just because I chose not to, which is about all I'm hearing from the suggestions on how we should be nerfed. I have seen also seen suggestions for the creature training tree, but that still leaves me S.o.L. I also don't feel that we should limit an actual novice creature handler from owning one of these larger pets that they buy or are given from a friend (an actual novice being someone who has very little to no skills beyond the novice abiltiy, not merely someone with the novice title) I think the best way to set this up is have the creature obey you much less than they obey someone higher up the ladder, I.E. let the novices show off their rancor, just don't let them do anything else with them. And if we're going to resort to saying "You can't have that pet because you're too low on the skill tree" don't base it on what skills you have chosen, but on the total number of xp you have gained. As I said I have more than enough xp to have filled one full skill tree, and that is more than most people have that I have seen (most I have seen either are just starting out or they're almost master, not much in between) I hate the idea that I would lose the ability to control some of my higher HAM bar creatures that I have gone out and tamed myself. (biggest I have right now is agreater sludge panther with 7000 HAM) Though what I have isn't much, and are all considered non vicious pets, according to what I've seen suggested is that it should be based on the stats of the creature and they never mention neutral pets. This is just a thought I had, feel free to comment as you wish, but I think this is probably the most effective and the least harsh of the suggestions so far. (I would also like to note that personaly I think the system we have now works just fine, and that people should start screaming fix my class instead of nerf all the others cause mine sucks. Please do not take this as me saying there's absolutely no faults in the system, because I like most CH know their are faults, but in my opinion people are blowing our "godliness" out of proportion.)
In reply to Diabolic_Tom:
Every class is mastered in "days" even if it takes you til episode III is released into the theaters. And I have seen 1 master CH, 3 master weaponsmiths, 2 master armorsmiths, 2 master teras casi artists, 3 master architechts, a handfull of master entertainer elites (image designer, dancer, muscian) and a bazilian master starter classes. Master CH is one of the rarer master classes, as most people take this as a side proffesian andthe misconception that CH dominates in numbers over all other proffesians is due to people having enormous pets that stand out. Most people want creature handler as a extra edge for their bounty hunting or what have you main proffesian and are not going to master it.
in reply to Veers6969:
A rifleman would own a CH in PvP (assuming that CH is the only combat proffesian involved) People think we're invincible but really it's not that hard to beat us PvP--bring down the master and you bring down the beasts. Yeah we can take out a horde of red mobs single handedly (or supposedly, I personaly have never done it, but then I'm nota master CH with uber pets) but I've seen a person with 2 rancor get killed by a master marskman. Draw your own conclusion.
