Those last 2 aren't really MMORPG's (and the producers DO point this out!) - but are agood substitute.

I'll be looking for something else once I've exhausted combat - Everquest 2 did actually look good, but I passed on it since starting another SOE game looked like a bad idea.

I'll probably give WoW a try in a few months - but it doesn't grab me somehow (really want a decent SF game).

I've never played AO but a friend of mine tried it out. He didn't like the interface so he really didn't get very far before he gave up.

I had an EQ2 account but cancelled it. I played it for a while and got to a certain level but the game becomes a chore. It also suffers from the "I can't find a group" syndrome that SWG is suffering from now. I still don't understand the mindset behind requiring the player base to group in order to advance game play but not implement an easy and liquid system of finding group members. But then, this is just one of the minor issues SWG is suffering from right now.

I thought about getting the Matrix and looked at the website quite a bit. SOE bought the rights to the game and scared me away by firing the development team.

I started a WoW character yesterday, since I have a free month to play. The character creation is rudimentary, which disappointed me. You select from a small group of heads, hair,and skin colors. The rest is generic. The graphics are pretty cartoonish as well. Other than that, I guess I'll find out how the game plays.

As you can see by my signature, I cancelled my one last remaining SWG account already. It runs out next month and I have no intention of renewing. I may return some day but I fear the development team will turn the game into Jedi vs BH with a PvE loot system. Everything else will be gone. Only time will tell.

If your not really interested in combat, Horizons: Empire of Istaria has an excelent crafting system. There are no artifacts whatsoever and the occasional gift equipment are simply for show and useually only given out on holidays. However, their combat system leaves much to be desired and dragon characters are as common as Jedi here, but at least there is no PvP.
