Pongo -- I'm in the same boat, my friend. Only just recently mastered both CH and Smuggler (both professions I've been working on since I started playing). And now I look around and think, "Well, when I started it seemed a good idea. What can I do, though, that will actually help me protect myself when I'm in combat since these two aren't doing a thing." *sigh*

you think smuggler/MCH is bad... try a master pol/master ID, with the rest in DE... at least the holo gods are good for laughs... the master pol was for the player city, the other 2 holo's...

the for abilities hes talking about another combat profession... not /yell a and 3 GSP's attack your target (but that was alot of fun to watch :smileyvery-happy... before we learned to be buffed at all times this was one of many deadly combos... for friendly duels the norm was no DB, no pets...

PvP in itself means player verus player... i think thats what the dev's want it to be not player verus player and pets... there were times when you would see more pets than PC's fighting in Theed...

i loved my mauler combo for PvE... but i also NEEDED to be a CH as a rifleman then 2.5x mele penelty hurt bad... one hit incaps/DB from most every mid lvl creature in the game... but there wasn't anything i couldn't 'solo' then either...

now there are very few things i won't try at least once to 'solo' with pets or without... its just alot harder, and i use BE pets now instead of wild (except for my widows or gurrecks)... i had to learn new tactics for making pets useful after the great nerf... but i did and still think CH is one of the best professions in the game... but i've always used my pets for defence and i supply the offence...

as for PvP i've had some success with pets... if i can get the specials to work namely KD, disease (screecher), or poision (widow) they they are great... but thats a big IF... mostly they are incaped rather quickly so i don't try much... i take it personal if my pet lose vitality...

You're kinda missing the point. Why should we be forced to get another profession to be even remotely viable when after we get that profession, we're pretty much not going to be using pets anymore? We spend more SPs to be less effective than other professions.

And yes PvP is player vs. player, but who do you think is controlling those pets? PvP is player vs. player, so take off your armor and weapon, it's not player vs. armor and player vs. weapon.

i guess i play MCH different than the rest of you... i could spend the SP from MCH on TKM to compliment my MRifle... and it would actully be slower for me to kill most creature MOBs... the ability to have a pet hold the agro and me to fire my AoE ranged special attacks while not having to kite... and making me focus on one creture at a time (AoE attacks don't work well for me at close range)... this really slows down my effectiveness to kill things...

my normal setup is get to dath... call out 3 pets that equal cl70... call out droid... group... get the missions i want... store... call out my my hunting pets... group... guard... and trot off into the wilds (yes i usually walk)... ungroup (better harvest ungrouped)... areatrack... find creature i want to hunt on the way to my mission... set off in that direction... find lair, have one pet attack the lair... equip stun damage rifle (doesn't do damage to lairs)... wait till pet get the agro, start spamming AoE... 15 secs later go harvest... hit the lair with my energy damage weapon till just before halfway... then equip the stun rifle again and start spamming AoE's... go harvest... finish off lair... group... maybe drop a stem on my pet if needed...

i still pick up an argo about once a lair... thats where the pet on guard comes in... he meets the MOB halfway, and usually aquires the agro... i finish off the spawn then focus on the last MOB...

now for a possibilty of a rare spawn or FS typei do things different... i have one of my pets follow other... then i attack... as soon as the agro hits me, the pet attacks... this saves a couple hits per MOB usually... i work a lair in a normal taming fashion after that point...

now for AT-ST's, i only can have one pet out (most of the other ones are set for kinetic damage) usually my widow, gurreck, or Kimo... tell the pet to attack, and pound away on the target... i usually do an embolden pets during this evolution, maybe drop a stem if i keep hitting low...

there are many other tactics i use, it depends on the situation... but i do experiance the same bugs as everyother CH... i know which pets have a tendancy to run (i use these for lairs), and which ones will fight till right near death... i also have different commands set up for each pet... if they autostore, its just a matter of how many MOB's attack me and if they find a hole in my armor...

this is how CH works for me... yes i could still be effective without CH, i know how to do that too... but it is really a good investment of SP for me... it makes me a more efficent hunter...

as for PvP, i think that it has to do with everyone having the ability to have the same buffs, armor (sorry wookies)... the best use of pets i know in PvP is setting them up infront of the terminal so its harder to abort with a burstrun in and then dead as they hit the abort... as a stand alone combat profession, a CH shouldn't stand a chance in PvP... yes we are useing out "weapons" but our "weapons" do a max of 500 damageevery 2 seconds... against a buffed, 80% composite armor wearing player that damage is very small... yet i can shoot a pet for easily over 3k every second... now pets are mainly a distraction in PvP, but if they distract someone for even a few seconds then i have gained the upperhand...

what i see needs to be done is make nonfaction pets unable to attack factioned targets... just the opposite of what they did to AT-ST's... i know this idea won't be popular with CH, but the AT-ST thing wasn't popular with imps who owned them either...

I totaly agree with KieSharku.

I love CH, not because they are usefull but because its FUN looking for babies and stuff. If
they hadn't nerved it that much it would be even more fun to play and it would be of use!

Hi everyone, im kinda new to the forums and ive been reading alot on CH. I'm a 4,4,3,4 CH and im planning on mastering it as well as smuggler 0,4,4,4. All ive been reading is that these 2 professions suck. The thing is, sure we dont get much for fighting in pvp but just being able to takeout mobs with your creatures makes it enjoyable for myself. And as for smuggler i enjoy it because im really into the whole roleplay of being jabbas servant. smuggler is great for jabba, lol. I dont know, i love being able to flash my pets around at people and seeing bubbles come up saying" oh my *%$*$* god, now that is a pet" and yes i understand my pet would probably lose in a fight with a player but cheer up everyone, its that whole fun factor. If you dont enjoy CH then yes maybe you should drop it or go to another game. No one is forcing you to stay and play.

Im not saying all this to fight, im just saying ive tried my share of professions and CH is the funnest so far. Im really sorry in advance if this starts a fight or if i pissed someone off, im just stating my opinion.

Creature Handler all the way

As for the little bugs thats all id like to see gone.

Another combat profession? doesn't he mean *A* combat profession? What is different between me yelling for 3 gsps to roast a target and a (whoever) pulling out a flame thrower and roasting the target? IF they don't want us as combat then just say so and nerf all our pets and we can move on.

If the skill points I spent where not for combat (MCH) then just say so and I can adjust. I could be an architect for the same set of points (and get some back from scout while I am at it and I would *KNOW* that I would have no usefull combat skills.

It is the not knowing that is really getting to many of us. I should drop the profession and move on but I (currenty) would miss my pets. As pets. If they just moved us to zoo-keepers and dropped us to the bottom lvl of professions then we could if we felt the need to kill pick up a combat profession. If we felt the need to heal we could pick up Combat Medic or Doctor or something. Tell us the plan. Let us know the big picture even if it is fuzzy. Is that too much to ask?

As to Player Vs Player then throw down your weapons and lets make it *REALLY* player vs player.

Correct When I chose to be a scout and artisan (was thinking of architect for elite) I looked around for a combat profession that could be useful and fun for when I had to visit my harvesters. Silly me I chose MCH (there was no TKA back then I dont think) Now I just outrun the mobs on my bike and get the IMP scanning teams that litter the outback to come to my aid when attacked. I keep MCH in part because it was my first mastery and in part because I like(ed) haveing pets. They are however so unreliable I rarly call them even for a walk. If they were real they would be very lonely. My favorite gurrcat (BE) even came up with a new odd behaviour. I had to clean out some mobs near a harvester so I could go in and check on it and this cat worked over the MOB till it was almost dead then disengaged and ran back to me. The mob did not follow (fortunatly for me since I have no skill points left for defensive skill combat templates (Master merchant got the rest) because it had started to try and run to escape my cat. I wounder if my cat has gone soft.

I recently reached MCH since playing one from when i started the game last october. The problem i found with the change was the 'double nerf' we got. They made a good change of making pet level based on the entire profession, which weeded out all the graul-dabblers, but at the same time all the creatures in the game had there stats reduced (with most creatures losing there armour and/or resists).

Creatures are still useful for PvE in combination with a master ranged profession, especially for hunting (get a mob of six creatures around your pets and wipe them all out in one go with flurry shot, fan shot etc). The profession is nowhere near as powerful as it used to be though. I feel that because we're halfway through a 'combat balance' we've been hit the hardest of any combat profession.Huge increases in the quality of armour and buffs have made our profession very hard to use for PvP - Lvl 50+ bio-engineered creatures with specific specials/resists and ranged attack seem to be the only viable creatures to use. The problem here is that these pets are hard to make, and therefore expensive, and with them losing vitality so quickly I rarely want to use them for this purpose. (Would you spend a lot of cash on a Krayt weapon if it lost 20% of its condition in one battle?) Coupled with the bugs that have plagued most of us of late it has disheartened me towards keeping the profession.

To answer the statement about pet-calling in the new patch though... its already been stated in the patch notes that all the old methods of pet calling will still work (instant call in towns and camps) so this is actually an added bonus, not a 'nerf'.

I am working on other professions to see what would be the best compliment for ch for pvp and worked bounty hunter for awhile because I liked the weapons. Now am trying TK to see if the knockdown and hit specials will be the best profession to compliment ch.

This is a weak argument. Support profession though it may be, it eats up skill points and is absolutely no use in PvP. There isn't a PvP compliment to CH either. For me to consider another profession as complimenting CH, Iwould need to have *more* power keeping my pets out in PvP than putting them away. In reality it's just the opposite because if you have any concern for your pets vitality, you can't PvP effectively with them so you store them to gain the benefits of not being a CH.

For PvP purposes, CH isn't a support profession, it's non-combat.

A fellow CH complained when a TK player in PVP took down his rancor... moaned about how pets suck... This was after he was incapped and he seemed to think his lone rancor could take down one of the most powerful combat elite professions, in comp armor with full buffs... well, I wouldn't have sent in my poor little rancor against that monster. I actually care about my pets.
