Thread: Here's A NEW Idea for CH, has anyone thought of Breeding? (Poll, all MCHs chime in!)
The idea of the BE being able to DNA sample a stud pet in the stable was propounded in Pluto's other thread, but shot down. I see no problem with it, as it lets the BEs in on what we would hypothetically be doing as breeders, but a lot of other people have a problem with it.

You might run this idea by on the ranger forum and see what they think about it. Wear a flak vest if you do. Rangers being unable to fulfill their role as the ultimate hunters & creature resource providers (due to high skill point investment and diminishing returns on +creature harvesting) is currently a huge issue.
I still stand firm in we can breed something non-combat related like size and/or foot speed that directly influences the pet but not necessarily in combat. If I were going to ask for HAM style breeding maybe it would be best to ask for breeding secondary stats in as well. Making them better. As of now they are virtually non-existent. That would affect combat. It would not really venture into the BE arena, and it still could tie in with BE's being able to sample from the Corral. Ultimately we want to be able to affect our pets. I am the edge of the coin, were you Ty and Zip seem to be the faces. In some form there exists the chance that the coin land on its edge and be perfectly balanced. Neither too much for CH nor too much taken from BE.

Ty, this is an intriguing, creative idea.
Which is precisely why it is doomed. It does, also intrude in to BE territory. As Pluto found out with the corral and harvesting, any perception of treading on the toes of another profession results in backlash. This is true of any profession that perceives itself as unloved by the devs or the community (and scouts, rangers, and BE all fall into that category, just as CH does.)
If SOE had a dedicated CH dev who could work on creating CH content, this might stand a chance. However, my understanding is that the devs each have multiple areas of responsiblity and can't be "dedicated" to a single profession. Probably due to management aversion to "excessive" staffing of the game, as well as management's repeated inablity to manage the project. It's obvious that these guys are not good multitaskers, and don't have managers who can guide them in becoming good multitaskers.
Imagining the meetings these guys must be required to attend make my head hurt.
Besides, the really creative devs are already on SE, leaving the live game to the second string. Paying customers are not as important as the marketing splash of SE. Marketdroids clearly have the upper hand, not developers. The suits are suits; whatever they see providing the highest short term profit gets their Nemodian attention.

No matter how you sidestep around the terminology ("breed" vs. "genetic manipulation"), you're talking about dipping directly into BE domain. Yes, you gave various caveats and stipulations, but it still just amounts to creating more customized pets than what can be tamed naturally in the wild, which is the BE cloning market. Adding this ability to CH would have one of two effects:
1) If "bred" pets performed well enough to make breeding a viable activity for many CHs, the BE market for cloned pets would be severely impacted, especially since CHs are the BEs' primary customers.
2) If "bred" pets had sufficient limitations on them such that BE pets still clearly reigned supreme, performance-wise, most CHs would say "why bother" to "bred" pets, making breeding a waste of development effort.
I'd much rather see some totally new niche for CHs added in, rather than a very similar variant of another profession's ability.
I vote yes on corral ( but it it too expensive to run as listed ) and NO on breeding for the reasons above.
But before the DEVs spend time on that can they PLEASE FIX THE CURRENT BUGS.

LOL. Do not go to the rangers and ask for harvesting. The Corral proposal did that, it was not pretty.

Hmmmm... How bout breading mounts for speed so they come close to vehicle speed and CL so they can be lowered to Non-CH level. That might re-invigorate the market a bit.
Still keep them below vehicles so the artisans can have a market whenever the 'shuttle repair bike' bug is fixed. I also like the idea that if the DEVs insist we are a support class that someone decides WHAT KIND of support. Right now I can't think of what support we provide in or out of combat.

This is going to get me one-starred for sure. I have the combat support role plan. We get corrals, we get to breed, but instead of breeding uber stats. We breed the things we are discussing in the Armor/PvP/Mounted weapons thread.
Hear me out. I am just tired of fighting the system first. So why not just ask to be combat support. But in doing so we must be able to provide the checkers. Pikemen get Calvary mounts. These make them uber mounted players. Commandos get Plasma Cannons on Tortons/Malkoks. Only Corral Breed pets can be trained any of these new TACTICS. Notice I said Tactics vs Statistics. It to me is the angle to try to play out.
I do not know if that makes sense but I have been banging my head since this thread started trying to figure out something to breed that is not gonna hurt BE as much. Those of use still wanting to PvP and PvE will just have to settle for using BE pets because they are more uber. In effect it makes us the true Hybrid I believe we are. Not 100% combat and definitely 100% crafter.
Again, I expect to get one starred for offering to be combat support. But for the time being I see it as an alternative to nothing at all.
Interesting thought there, Pluto. I think you are on to something. If pets were given new capabilities, CH could become the avenue for unlocking those abilities from Day One. I guess the subtlety being how many brand new abilities can pets be given that are both (A)Desirable and (B)Won't overpower pets... particularly since you're talking about non-CH pets/mounts in your above example.
I don't want to abandon the Tamers, though. The act of taming in the wild is something a lot of people enjoy, and it should give more of a tangible sense of reward than it currently does. Not just more variety of babies (though that is important)... but also a reason to tame them.
There are lots of neat ideas in the 'Your Ideas for Making Pet Commands More Useful' thread, as well as the In Concept CH thread (now in the Development Cycle Archive) and the "Know Your Role" thread. This weekend I really want to sit down and start summarizing some of these so people can add thoughts without being daunted by their size.
I can't speak for anyone else, but I give posts one star for being rude, condescending, off-topic, and so forth, none of which I've seen in your posts, Pluto. I may disagree with some of your ideas (and possibly continue to say so), but thus far I'd have to say you and Tycalibur both have been models of courteous and thoughtful posting, and seem to have the best interests of more players than just yourselves in mind.

I don't leave 1 stars or 5 stars. Does any of us care about our star rating anyway? Anyways, I'm alwaysone to vote for breeding so ............
