"My point was that yours were not very well laid out, and in fact ranger is beneficial, especially if you're hunting for income."

That is great and it is your opinion. For me it is much more worthwhile to have medic 4340,MRM and MCH. My point is, that ranger is fine but creature handler is more effecient against multiple high level MOBs than anything else. If i am going to do a hunting template where ranger is what I need to get lots of meat, i am not gonna be a MCH.

Still, the question was:

Re: Is ranger a have to have as a CH?

And my response was, that it is not, absolutely not, and not. It is probably a lot of fun to play and I am sorry if your feelings are hurt, but your opinion in this thread has nothing to do with ranger and creature handler together. What you are using it for is collecting meat, and there are much better options out there for hunting meat than MCH.

I have zero skill points left, can heal my pets for over 3k with each heal, and am speed capped on rifle hitting for over 3k per mob per second. Doesn't sound too terribly much like the waste that you described. If you are hunting for income, i suggest dropping mch and picking up master ranger with the rifle as MCH absolutely adds nothing in your scenario.

If you need two razor cats to take out a reptilian flyer nest with master rifle, you need help and if you are hunting for speed, arguing that ranger is much more important to that type of hunting while having to towa couple ofpets around, then knock yourself out.

I am saying that it is not essential, so if your feelings are hurt about your template, I am sorry. And if someone says something against you in the future, please dont take it as "they are being negative".

I said in the first post that if you enjoy it, and it brings you happiness, knock yourself out, but MCH adds nothign to your scenario except for having hunting companions.

That is the point of this guys question, and is the ranger,ch combo fun, I bet it certainly is. Is it more effecient for collecting meat, I doubt it, but that was HARDLY the question now was it.

I am just saying it is not the optimal template imo. That is not being negative.

and please dont think i was jumping on your case, and never feel the need to apoligize to me. Seriously, if people didn't have different opinions from mine, the world would be crappy.

I'm a Master Ranger/Master CH. I enjoy it, but you will definitely not be uber. With Novice Medic, I have enough points for one branch of Marksman and a couple of other boxes. And everyone knows that CH sucks in combat, so the points are probably better served in a combat profession than in ranger (if combat is what's important to you). I hate to discourage people from ranger, but I'd say it comes down to RP/personality/play style more than the skills you'll get. Even as a ranger, I have to agree with what other posters. Many aspects of the profession are horribly broken (traps), a waste of skill points (camps), or can be replicated with other means that don't use skill points (food/droids for harvesting). That being said, the /areatrack skill is helpful for finding pets to tame, so you might be interested in that if you're serious about CH.

Thanks guys. To answer alot of questions. I am looking at a Rp but strong PvE template. High or master rifles is a must cause it want to be able to not have to rely on my pets when things get hard (just cause they are Nps and dont think about running or thatkinda stuff). I want teh exploration adn hunting from Ranger. Havent look at the skill points neded yet but i want to be great in rifles and CH then as good as i can in Ranger. I dont need a ton or the unneded stuff just fro teh master titles in any of the proffesios. Whats everyone think?

I forogt to add a few things. I have no need for camps and traps at all. I will be hunting fro money, but am in it for the fun. I dont need to be the uberman on the block just want to make good money and have fun with it. Also want to be able to go to my guild and brag about "look what i can do."

You have enough skill points left over. My point was that yours were not very well laid out, and in fact ranger is beneficial, especially if you're hunting for income. And no, a droid does not make up for it, nor does food, it would only add to the bonus you're getting from the tracking line.

And yeah, tracking IS only usefull for creatures you're looking for...thats the whole point, you're tracking, you ARE looking for them.

If you're hunting for money, you should give it a try and see hwo you like it.

No, it just take time, practise and a sense of not trying to be uber. I never buff, never use armor and only die of stupidity

I think you'll have 18 points to spare. You best take ranger xx3x
Camouflage isn't usefull wihout master (use mask scent) and you still have harvest increase and tracking And you'll have a better creature knowledge/to-hit

Just my two cents worth. I was a Master Ranger with MCH once. The major benefit that I found were the increased harvests. I saw little or no difference between MScout's mask scent and cammo. I ended up not using cammo and just going with mask scent. I use the + clothes. The tracking was nice but for all intents and purposes I rarely used it. By the time I got off my bike and went through the graphic routine of scanning I could usually just buzz over to the lair and see what it was. I normally have my radar at 256m and would just look for aggro lairs. With the new Con system, I can usually figure out what the lair is by where I am and how they con. The creature knowledge is nice but I find that I now know that information from memory. I usually have www.swgcreatures.com up in the background. I use that when I run into something that I do not know or have forgotten the stats and abilities of. With veghash that is pretty good, it was just not worth the skill points to me. I used the points in Medic and Artisan Surveying. I can pretty much fund myself by just plopping down some harvesters on high quality resources and then go chasing rares. If the rare I am hunting has high quality hide/meat/bones fine. I harvest with veghash. If the stats on, say, Rancor resouces stink I do not worry about it. I still kill them looking for a baby.

Conceal is supposed to help against some NPCs. Whether it's different for "Live" I know not - but I wanted to test /conceal on Dath so when TC-Ahazi had the char builders, I built up a Master Ranger based template and crafted myself some Dath camo kits.

Upon concealing, my first "impressions" were that mutant rancs that would break my Mask Scent most of the time at Exploration IV were not doing that anywhere near as frequently with camo kit applied in Rancor Valley.

Second thing I noticed was with NPCs. Nightsister slaves that would agro all the time seemed to leave me alone without even the ? appearing above their heads.

Maybe it was a one off but being just used to Mask Scent at Exploration IV - I found myself impressed with camofluage and /conceal, so much so that I will be bringing Ranger skills into my creature handling on my Radiant char.

Rop.

I love Tracking III. This more than anything might be why I haven't given up Ranger to try something else. I think I've found virtually all but one of my pets by using tracking. It's also been very helpful in finding resources. You don't really need Tracking IV, which allows you to track players & NPCs, but I couldn't have done the hermit quest without it. Though now that I've done the Hermit quest, I might give it up for another slot in Pistoleer. I remain undecided.

DaBudo2 thats a great idea (Hermit Quest). I so ashamed I never thought of that. I only picked up Tracking 4 because of the harvest bonus. I have an alt who's a 12 point MD on the same server.

Just my $.02, I'm currently Ranger 4-3-4-4, TKM, & Novice CH. I myself couldn't live w/o having Ranger skills on my toon. The ability to track is very beneficial to finding rare spawns & babies much faster. I also use mask scent exclusively, I can walk up to Rancors & slap them if I feel inclined. The fact that I can disappear in the wild, find anything w/in 500m, harvest an exponentially higher # of resources and also be able to erect a High Tech Field Base in my opinion is wonderful. Ranger isn't for everyone, but this has definitely helped me w/ leveling CH xp quickly.
