yeah, it is a great way to go, if you want to die a LOT, but if you had an alt character...

If you're going to do mostly PvE and make your living hunting , then Ranger is very nice. I have Ranger 3,0,4,0 which gives me extras to my camoflage, harvesting, creature knowledge, and tracking.

I remain convinced that the camoflage pluses (and being Bothen gives me some as well I believe), have allowed me to sneak up on high level creatures to tame them without being detected on many occasions. I've never had the problems I've read about where people would keep getting detected and the baby thenaggro on them.It does happen, but if I'm laying down then never. Well, I can think of one time where my mask scent was broken when I was prone. Maybe coincidence that camo seems to help, I don't know for 100% fact.

I've earned literal millions from harvesting/selling creatureresources. You can make more money doing other things, but I have a heck of a lot of fun hunting. When you're harvesting a resource that you can sell for 100cpu, there's a huge difference between being able to harvest 50 units and 70 units (as example only) per creature because of those Ranger pluses.

Creature knowledge bonuses have been great for knowing whatcreatures' vulnerabilities and resistances are. If I see the creature (or NPC for that matter) has 100% resist to energy, then you can betI'm going to use a weapon that doesn't use energy. It's also very handy for being able to identify a creature's special abilities (your own pet's included).

I love Tracking III. This more than anything might be why I haven't given up Ranger to try something else. I think I've found virtually all but one of my pets by using tracking. It's also been very helpful in finding resources. You don't really need Tracking IV, which allows you to track players & NPCs, but I couldn't have done the hermit quest without it. Though now that I've done the Hermit quest, I might give it up for another slot in Pistoleer. I remain undecided.

buy +25 camo, +25 taming viscious and wild, +25 masked scent and pick up a rifle and you will be 100 times more effective than being a ranger, it doesn't add a lot IMO. But for the fun factor, go for it.

Ekaw appears bent on being negative...

Ranger is very helpful and the clothing mods he speaks of will not provide you with the benefits from going ranger. Ranger does not provide you with taming, nor do I believe any mask scent mods at the novice level.

If you go Master CH, Master (Elite Combat), most people will still have room for a little ranger. Personally, I'm master CH, Rifle, Scout, and 0030 Ranger. The added ranger gives me something like +15-20 Creature harvest and knowledge. If you're a hunter that extra creature harvest is great. Additionally, the extra creature knowledge tells you CL, and specials, plus I get animal tracking. So I can grab some missions, do them, and then track for more creatures...gives that extra boost if you're hunting so you can find those wild spawns inbetween missions.

If you make you're money hunting, then you should pick up as much of the tracking line as possible.

Ive done Master Ranger and while it's not a must have for CH, it is afun profession. For a CH, Tracking 3 will be very helpful. I was primarily a hunter at that point in my gaming and the increase in harvesting resourcesI got at Master Ranger compared with Master Scout was somewhere around 40% if I remember correctly. If you are really interested in the ins and outs of what a Ranger can and cant do, I would suggest a run over to their forum. They are a helpful group and Im sure they would be happy to help.

^nope. not trying to be negative, but you can buy a droid and get teh same harvesting benefits. i realize that taming has nothign to do with ranger, I just know there are some nice outfits available that serve both causes. I just think skill points could be used elsewhere, now I did say that it would probably be fun, however, the question is whether it is a must have.

there are foods now that let you increase your harvesting and camouflage and harvest droids are useful as well. In my mind it is not a must have and I explained why. That is not negative in the least in my mind.

The skill points could be put to much much better use. Tracking seems useless unless you are searchign for a certain type of beast, but most can be found on the terminals easily enough if they are not rare animals.

Now, coupled with an elite combat profession ranger would be leet. With Ch it seems like a total waste of skill points.

I'd say do what you like. The fact is that both creature handler and rifleman benefit from a ranger. You have to decide which you want to master. A MRanger/Mrifleman is very strong you can shoot up to 20 shots while prone without agro. A Mranger/Mch is strong because you can track down creatures, increased harvest rate (sure you can use a droid and veghash as scout, but so can a ranger for even more harvest), camo is a very nice ability if you want to tame (i can dance next to ancient bull rancors). Trapping isn't that useful, though it can immobilize creatures (scout tree, but won't be effective until you ranger) and camps are useless. One other good part about being ranger is the money. You can earn a lot of money by hunting animal resources. Example insect meat sells for about 50-80 cpu on lowca (if it's good that is) when ranger you've got 10k in no time. Also tracking is a money maker though it is boring if you want to make you living out of it. Lastly tracking combined with ch gives you the oppertunity to find rare/uncommon pets more quickly (i found like 3-4 rares, problem is i'm not that good a ch so i couldn't tame them

All in all ranger is more a roleplaying proffession. I think if you really want ranger, go for it, it will be paradise. If you just want it for a few skills, look somewhere else, ranger gets really useful on mastering it.

I myself am a ranger/ch/rifleman and am thinking of dropping rifleman quite a bit to master ranger/ch. To me it's better, cuz i just like to walk outside, find rare creatures, or go tracking for awhile.

MCH, 2324 Rifleman, 0040 Ranger is my primary skillset right now (the rest of my skill points float to wherever I need them). I don't really PvP these days, but it's enough to help me do some PvE hunting. I love Tracking... not sure I could live without it at this point. If I'm standing around idle for a moment, I track sometimes in town just to see if there's anything around. I almost always track for babies right after stepping off a shuttle in an advanced planet outpost.

I found all my rare creatures without ranger.

It is not necessay to be successful to finding spawns of creatures. I did pick it up though when I started hunting large game with my guild such as Krayt, Kimo, and Gorax. I feel ranger has been very valuable in assisting me find the big stuff and especially with krayts where usually there is competition to finding the spawns.

Other reason for ranger is to get the increase in harvests and the better camps. I also do like as you get higher into the ranger you creature knowledge improves so can see what their specials are and so on.
