When you destroy the datapad icon, it says you release your pet back into the wild... who's actually killing babies?! Tame the little buggers!
Yeah, thats what we all WANT to believe.
In actuality, it FIRST asks you if you want to destroy the baby.
So what you're really releasing to back to the wild is just a carcass.

Nope, not getting senile. We actually could release them into the wild. They would just kind of stand around, but you couldn't tame them again. However, they nerfed that because some CH's would fight club their pets, taming a baby and releasing it, then having another baby attack that first one, getting max xp. So they got rid of that release method to "fix" that...and we've been getting fixed ever since....
I heard they "fixed" it after people started releasing rancors in the cantina.
THAT would've been a sight to see!
So instead, now we just have to kill them to get them out of our datapad.

At least were notdangling them from utop a balcony...

Actually, you COULD retame the baby, but you'd get no XP for the tame. Sometimes it would grow a notch and no longer be a baby, though, and therefore untamable. There were many seemingly wild babies running around with names, given to them prior to TTR...so that anotherCH would know that it had already been tamed once and there was no sense in taming it again for XP.
My understanding was that the real problem with "in the world" released pets was a$$hat CHs releasing aggro creatures like rancors in the middle of cities to create chaos. This was when CH was the original FOTM profession.
