Did you keep trying the /watch or /listen command multiple times successively (without changing anything)? When I spent a little time testing this bug, I found that the "too far away" message might just come up once or twice, but then it would work normally after a few tries.

Yep but unfortunately I didn't get as lucky as you...nothing would make it work. Not radial menu, not typing /watch, not waiting a bit, not anything.
