Cubada, the pet earns XP based on its level, independently of the character's XP gain. However, the pet's XP gain is capped based on level, just as a character's is. A level 10 toon will gain a fixed amount of XP in a level 20 group or a level 80 group. Being in a higher level group confers no additonal XP gain. Same for a pet. Once you've hit the cap with say a grand wrix, it makes no difference if it's fighting against wild level 33 pikets on Dant or mission lair level 82 pikets, it will earn that same amount of XP.

So, you can be in a full up group, 8 players, and even with the pet not in the group, it will still gain XP based on its level vs. the mob's level, subject to the cap.

The advantage of the pet being in the group is that it will have all the defensive advantages of the group's highest level character. The drawback is it will gain XP based on that level as well, but it will still be subject to the XP cap described above.

Outside the group, it's likely that the pet will not generate hate against it when attacking, unless it has the aggression special, and thus is unlikely to take damage except from AOE attacks.

In my humble opinion CH ain't about the grind, it's about the pleasure baby (yeah).

Took me ages to reach master back in the day, and during that time I developed several pets that I grew attached to.....although much to my disdain the vast majority of these can't be called upon now (since my return to SWG post-CU).

Whatever you choose to do, enjoy, this is far and away the most enjoyable prof imho.

Congratulations. Now be prepared, like someone who just became a padawan, to grind like you've never ground before to get those L2 and L3 abilities and pets that can use them.

Do you know it takes 4 million critter XP for a level 70 pet to roll over 10 times, to be full sized? This is more XP than a Jedi needs to get a master box (once they have all four branches filled in).

The xp you get seems to be a bit buggy as 2 or 3 out of every 5 kills gets me only 1 xp but the rest are based on the cl of my pet.The cl68 gets 4500 and the cl20 gets 2200.In one night of grinding my cl68 got 12 slots open and 555 points.

Another thing...

Unless you've got a critter with an AOE attack (and they seem to have been nerfed in pub 24...), do not join a spin group. The pikets fall so fast that you'll have a real problem getting in one hit on each critter for max CH XP, at best you'll be able to hit 1/3 of them, given the lag you'll probably experience between the time you issue a /tellpet command to attack, and the time the pet actually executes the command.

At least on Ahazi, the lag on Dantooine (spin central) is mind numbing. Not uncommon to experience 5-10 second delays between issuance of command and execution of it.

So, with the CL2 pet group trick, does the CH actually get XP or not? I've read contradiciting things and I'm confusioned. I have a CL5 alt that I can do this with if I do get CH xp.

Iconic professions. Ok. Chewbacca was a Scout. How come that didn't stay?

When you think about it, aren't almost all of the original professions iconic? You can find something on each of them in the Expanded Universe.

I miss being a Ranger. It was more than a profession, it was a virtual way of life. It wasn't for everyone. But those who took it up became family.

I noticed that too. I was wondering if it was a bug or a feature. I found that if I got 1xp for it I could harvest hides and stuff, its almost as if the system thought I attacked the creature rather than my pet. The weird thing is I never touched the mobs.

I can't wait until I can get enough CH experience so I can run 2 pets at once.
