This has happened to you only once and only with bull rancors? You have gotten off easy. I can not tell you how many rare babies I have lost to this happening. I have a great collection of rares but this has happened to me many times. "poof"

So how do you break aggro without poofing the creature?
I've never tried this, so it's pure theory that may fail horribly. But what if you pull out a very weak pet before approaching the lair? Then, if you pick up aggro from the baby, /peace out and have your pet attack it? I'm talking about the weakest pet you can possibly find... like a kreetle.Shifting focus to slayyour petmay cause the aggroing baby to lose interest in you long enough to put up your mask scent and get a /tame going? I might have to try that later.

Vert,
I have never been able to tame while my pets were being attacked.
Maybe what I am missing is that you also meant to go outside Agro ranged while the pet was being attacked then come back just as the pet is dying/dead and hope that the agro has been broken.
It is my fear, however, that with the agro change from last year that CH's are almost always attacked once the pet falls even if they never hit or were close enough to gain Agro.
So what is my point? It is that I believe the act of the pet being attacked retains Agro for the player as well.

No, I'm not saying to try to tame the baby while it's still attacking your pet (you can't tame something that's in combat mode). I'm saying to let it incap your pet and hope that it then leaves combat and doesn't immediately re-aggro you. With the way creatures maintain "hate lists" and recognize pet owners, I know this may not work (or may not always work). That's why I said it's a theory.

hehe,
Just clarifying what I thought I read versus what I maybe didn't see. It has been a long day. Any theory that may help with poofing is good to me. Just read it too fast, or wrong, or missed something.

I thought of that Vert, but it's just not realistic. The only way that would work is if you could call or store pets while in combat- because I wouldn't need one for that unless a baby spawned and aggro'd me, and if that happened, I'm not going to already have it out because I'm using my others already.
The problem is, the probability of a baby spawning is so low on bull rancors, that it's not worth the extra time to store and call pets at every spawn on the chance of a baby. I would have to say I easily killed close to 1000 adult bulls before a baby popped. That's a .001% chance on every spawn of a bull.
The best approach is to peace and move away before every spawn- but after 300-350 lairs and no baby, the extra time for that just seems wasted. I had been doing that for the first 150 or so, but then I just got frustrated and just wailed on stuff as it popped- assuming that if I needed to, I could peace and run when a baby came.
Guess not.
