i use +25 taming clothes and +18 taming BE food (almonds). but still the flyers seems to be the hardest. i tame CL69/70 shear mites (lurking, soldiers and reclusives) on the 1st or 2nd try even without the food, but the flyers usualy take some time (and sometimes some agro).

but in the end all is very random. today i went to dath (village run) and tried to tame everything on the way. nothing seemed to work. the flyers always agroed on the first try. i needed lots of tries for some kinad baz nitches (which ended up with no abilities of course). even the shear mites gave me some tough time this time. and some non-agro babies agroed me before i even tried to tame them. i thought i was totally bugged.
and then i ran into a rancor lair - i fired a shot at the lair hoping to get some baby spawns and drove away to avoid agro. when i came back there was a yellow dot. a bull rancor baby! - ok they are not as rare as pre-cu - but hey i am a MCH for over a year now and this creature still got its reputation and mystique. of course it agroed me on the first tame and destroyed my bike with its area attack - but after burst run away and back i needed just 4 tries and then it was mine. what a beautiful day - to finish things up it even has a level 3 ability (hunted withdrawal - hate reduction which might be useful for an area attacker).

so even if u think u are on a loosing streak it might end with a big bang.
