I'm master CH and master BH, which I find works well being able to deal good damage from range with a variety of weapons to suit the situation, whilst the pets tank.

You want field report, I got one for ya.
I am one of the most indicisive people you will ever meet when it comes to a combat profession. The only profession I have ever stuck with was Creature Handler. I've been Pistolee, Rifleman, Carbineer, Swordman, Pikeman, was even gonna go with Bounty hunter.
From what I have seen is as such.
With Ranged, it's good to have pets that can handle the heat, light armor and good HAM. If you don't have healing of some sort, you want to make sure to have lots of Stims on ya. And move fast. Honestly, I would say Pistoleer or Carbineer are great, because you can stay in close with out having to lose a lot in accuracy. i was doing great with Carbineer, till I gave it up.
Melee, any melee, is good, cause you are right there in the action. What I do is I have a savage quenker baby, I get the ranged attack trained, then I have them sit back and spit while I do the bulk of the damage.
All in all, any really work, depends on what you do. It's a good thing that I take CH, cause it makes hunting easier, cause it seems I'm always changing my combat profession. lol
