i am sure the kd works on occasion, at least i saw one npc falling down when my rancor with kd-special slapped him into the face.
could have been the bad food you get in the imperial army nowadays as well tho.

i have 2 pets with Crippling Strike that work on NPC's.

cripple works against npcs but it is just standing to kneeling, or kneeling to prone, and willnot work against animals. Knockdown has never worked that I am aware of.

oh gawd yes it is worth it, without the specials the pets are pretty much uselesss in controlling aggro on more than one creature.
see sig for info on how to make specials fie constantly and how to control agro.

yes, many specials DO work, only the disease, poison (except the area-ones) and kd-specials don't work on command.
as far as i know the special-commands only work when your pet isn't fighting tho, so you will need a follow me in your special macro.
the " when pet isn't fighting" thing is 100% wrong, see my sig for pet special macros.
