Man, I never thought i'd see the day when I couldn't keep up with the nerfs to CH......
What's the nerf???
Having xp gains based off your character level rather than your pet level is a good thing!
Suppose you were lvl 65, and your pet was lvl 25, that means you'd have to go searching for appropriate level mobs for your pet to tackle in order for you to get xp.
This way you can just pull missions your level and go out and get xp.
And the reason why creature handler xp takes up a percentage of the weapons xp is because your creatures are considered a weapon. Before the CU you were able to level CH and another elite combat profession at the same time. No other class is able to level two combat professions at the same time.
Sheesh I'm a creature handler and even I understand this.

Ahem, but anyway, the problem is XP is now gained in a rather annoying exponential fashion based on the level of your pet compared to the level of the enemy. Before this nerf to CH XP, (It was a month or 2 before the CU) a level 1 creature would gain the maximum possible XP from kiting, say, an SBD, which was about 2000 XP a kill I believe. With the nerf, instead of a creature gaining more XP for fighting higher level creatures, the XP actually gets LESS the lower your creature is than the enemy, and will still get less if your creature is higher. The high point of XP seems to be about 75ish percent of the enemies level, im not really sure, I think Joker tested it out once on some Pikets. Try using pets which are only a bit lower CL than your target, if it's at all possible for you.
Nope...........CH XP is now based on the level of your character NOT the level of your pet and issplit between your normal weapon XP and CH XP based on damage done IE out of 1,000 possible XP if you do 75% of the damage with a rifle and your pet does 25% of the damageyou get 750 rifle XP and 250 CH XP.
Unless it has been changed very very recently I am 99.9999999999999999999999999999999% sure that is the way it works.

I think Joker's right. I know when I have my pet fight enemy A and I fight enemy B, I get way more CH XP than if the pet and I fight one enemy together (per enemy of course).
I noticed this when I was on a group hunt the other day. My pet was helping the others fight one guy; I was tanking the other (I'm a TKA). They usually finished first and then my pet would help me take care of the one I was tanking... I always got less CH XP for an identical enemy when I had taken a big chunk out of it, than when only the pet damaged it.

Let me just say that I do respect the work in jokers sticky, but that in this case, it only casually related to my question and therefore wasnt very helpful.

I thought one of your questions was why is the lower level pet giving less XP. And I stated that XP is now based off your chaacters level and not your pets in my sticky. Sorry if I misread your origional post.
