Ok, need to ask a couple of hard questions here.

Aren't medic pets infringing on both the droid and the medic professions? If you're a medic using a non-ch pet, that means the pet is functioning just like a droid. If you're a CH with medic skills using a pet, it sounds like you're getting some medical benefits that a non CH medic wouldn't have (not to mention, once again using the pet as a droid).

In effect, the CH is getting some droid and medic profession benefits without having to expend skill points in those professions. There has been a lot said about non-CH not having to put skill points into CH and yet still getting CH benefits, i.e. having powerful BE pets that can attack for one example. How do we justify having medical or droid benefits without spending the skill points?

Aside from skill points, the biggest issue for me is that pets would be used just like droids. From what I read in this and taloncard's thread, it seems like pets would be supplanting the function of droids. Wouldn't it put CH in direct competion and conflict with the droid profession?

erm in a word, no.

i think i see where your coming from tho, but your forgetting one thing, if non-medics dont have any medic skills, those skills cant be modified in any way. i.e. if i group with a lesser thingamy and get mecial foraging +10 then my medical foraging is increased. unfortunatley as im not a medic i cant forage for medical goods anyway. even if the mod was medical foraging +1000000 i still wouldnt be able to use it!

this is the same way that AA's and CA's work. i drop a injury treatment +10 CA into every piece of clothing i own, as i cant treat wounds to start with it wont make a difference.

i also have to say i am fed up with people saying that we shouldnt be able to use any benifits from pets at the same time as other abilities. fine -i will fight with either my pets or my rifle (but not both) when TK's cant use medic abilites to heal themselves in a fight - or when pikemen cant use the defense mods from the fencer tree to help protect them or when WS arent allowed to fight with weapons that they made themselves. this is the reason that we have the ability to get more than one profession at a time. its true that if i (a master rifleman) fight another char who is only a master rifleman then my CH abilities may give me an edge, he may have spent the same amount of skill points as me on RM, by i ALSO spent skill points on CH too - you cant have it for free you know!

I hadn't thought in terms of pets as AA/CAs, interesting idea, and that might work at the non-CH level. The analogy breaks down, however, beyond that. Any medic can use any medic AA/CA, they don't need to have another profession to take advantage of them.

In the pet as AA/CA analogy, however, while all medics would be able to use non-CH pets, obviously only CH medics would be able to use higher level "med" pets. In effect, that would be forcing the medic to expend points in CH in order to use medical AA/CAs (what the pets are being used as). Another way to look at it, that would be giving the CH special med advantages that the pure medic wouldn't have. That is not the same thing as combining CH and Rifleman to make your character a stronger character. The difference is that being a Rifleman does not enhance CH abilities nor does being CH enhance Rifleman abilities. Your charactermay beenhanced but the professions themselves are not, a subtle but important distinction.

wait you mean that because someone has spent more skill points in certain areas than another player they could actualy get MORE of an advantage? MY GOD WHAT A CONCEPT!

my rifleman uses his pets to tank because he has virtualy no defensive mods himself and the pets help keep the target at the correct range, that IS combining professions. i also have an alt that is a TKM and a smidgeon ofFencer, the fencers defence against knockdowns, dizzy etc helps the TK. thats combining professions.

if a master TK fights someone whos a master TK AND a master brawler then the player whos also a master brawler SHOULD have an advantage, hes spent his skill points to have that advantage.

and at which point are we FORCING people to become CH's or expend skill points? people have to CHOOSE what skills they have, if you cant be the most uber doc, ch, tk, fencer, rifleman with only 250 skill points available then im afraid its tough, rememer if someone has master ch AND master doc then they wont have any other skills at all. even if they only have master doc AND master CM then they would have an advantage over a regular master doc, doesnt that force docs to spend skill points on CM as well?

you also need to look at this in more depth than simple black and white, yes a master doc grouped with a +20 injury treatment pet thats cl 30 would get a big boost, but also consider that theyve had to spend at least 70 or 80 skill points (on CH) to be able to control that pet. 70 or 80 skill points just to have an extra +20 injury healing, thats a hell of a lot of skill points. of course, if it was spent on any other profession other than CH and people could get that sort of bonus,no-one would mind!

can we all PLEASE get rid of the opinion that even tho we wasted 106 skill points on master CH, we shouldnt get anything other than a poor mans speeder and a walking shield thats gives us an extra 30 seconds before we have to fight ourselves!

What about like a ST. Bernard type deal, like a DR. could Drag a Rez kit to the pet, and then give the peta waypoint, the pet would go there and rez the player. The pet then returns to owner, I think this could be very useful. The pet should not be able to do anythnig while the rez kit is attached, give him a wound treatment thing under his neck like the barrels.... or could take stims to bring from incap, but rez is more likely.

Stips:

Pet has to be on same planet as other involved parties

Pet actually braves wild no imaginary non-sense like the survey droids

Only dog/cat like animals can be used and really starwarsy ones like Dewbacks, Banthas, and Taun Taun's Cu' Pas.

Also I have always thought pets/droids should be able to be used to deliver goods.

And a carry over from the BE forum... Exploding Pets, if some one gets too close to the medicical personel being gaurded SPAT! and it comes with disease, blindness, stun, infection, and are forced to stop and puke... hows that for some fricken content!

Disease & infection from having Animal guts all over them

Stun from the horror they just witnessed

Blindness from the blood and guts in their eyes or on their visors

And the Pukeing is due to all of the above and of coarse the smell

Perhaps there should me some mind /mental damdge done here as well, and the pucking should be intermitent for like 3 days, I believe it may take some time to get over the Dentonating Durnis.

Thanks for the sarcasm, but perhaps I didn't explain myself well. So, I'll repeat what I said in a different way. The issue isn't expending skill points to give your character an advantage. As you said, that's the whole point of constructing templates and combining professions. I never said otherwise. The issue is that we shouldn't be able to expend skill points in one profession and get an advantage in another profession. That is, ifa medicwants extra med benefits/pluses, they shouldn't have to expend points in CH to get those benefits. They should only have to expend points in the med profession to get med benefits. What if you had to expend skill points in Medic in order to get pluses to taming pets? Or you had to expend skill points in Artisan in order to get increases tothe max level of pets?

Using a pet to tank for your rifleman is not giving special defense bonuses to the Rifleman profession. Do you not see the distinction between combining professions to make yourtemplate stronger versus having to expend skill points inone profession in order to get bonuses in another profession? You yourself pointed out that if a TK wants the defense bonuses of a Fencer, he has to expend points in the Fencer profession. He can't expend points in the TK profession to getthe Fencer bonusesto defense vs. knockdown, et al.

And if you were accusing me of having the opinion that "we shouldn't get anything other than a poormans speeder, etc.", you do so wrongly. I'vealways been of the strong opinion that MCH does not get the sort of comparable advantages that other master professions get.Increase the level of pet we can tame, increase our max level of pet, give us superior mounts, etc. etc. But the advantages we get should be CH advantages, not medical or rifleman or any other profession.

You forgot what if You were a MBE (Master of a crafting prof) and had to pick up Artisan skills to get a vendor, or to survey to make your products. Or what if you were an MBE (master of a craftig prof) and had to pick up artisan to do the crafting village quests just to use the skills you already have.

Actully you do have to pick up skills in other Profs to do CH, they are called scout skills... I do understand your point and agree that making others pick up CH to do their job is sillyness.... That's why my St.Bernard Idea would be so great, cause you could do it as a befriend if you were not a MCH/MDr. Or if you were grouped with a DR. or if the DR would have to give the pet special training... Yeah so it's pretty far out there.

How about a command that would allow the healers pet to drag a targeted incapacitated/corpse player back to the healer. The healer would not have to go up to the front line as much.

I post then read and find it already posted.

/r not Bad... lol I am playing to much... the /r was involentary. I did that in Instant messanger last night too.

The more I think about it, the more I doubt that they would do any of this... this is sort of like saying that if you want to wear armor you have to be an armorsmith 0030 to where comp armor ... so then everyone who wants to wear armor has to be an armorsmith... or the qualification for the T21 is in weaponsmith 0400, so if I am a rifleman and want to use that very useful gun I better become an artisan and then become a weaponsmith especially since area dizzy is in WS 0003.... I think we should focus on commands that we can use for our pets...

like having more than 2 specials possible.... having ranged attack do different types of damadge... or creatures in gereral do different types of damadge. Have pets post gaurd when you get incapped, and fight anything that comes with in 15-20 meters with an area taunt... or like a watch dog growl warning reaction.

give pets secondary stats (again), that can be adjusted by a BE like an ID does for people...

commands where pets work together like a encirlce command, so they surround a target and get a damadge mitigation type bonus.

or a chain attack where they all attack the same spot one after another with a damadge increase bonus

each pet should get skill points to be used for defense modifiers, but can't access until you are MBE or fairly close. and pet must earn individual xp to earn... i.e. can't use BE pet to earn xp to break out a Frenzied graul with all the mods right out of the box.

no?

hmm was just reading something about pets having a remarkable ability to encourage the elderly and young children to get better in times of sickness, pets give many people a reason to live and it helps promote healing and recovery.

so was just thinking maybe pets can give a bonus to a doctors/master-medicrecovery rate or even a command or stim type boost a doctor can use when grouped that allows the pet to give this recovery bonus to the whole group

might be doable +10 recovery master medic, +25 recovery master doctor

Goal: Make mounts more useful by giving them wearbles, which allows for cretin added purpose.

Medical Bags – A wearable with droid components in it (which would take driod batteries) and would act the same for a doctor or medic as being in a camp. Must be novice doctor, novice combat medic, to call a medical mount. Medical mount wearables would take a driod enginer and a taylor to make, and a MCH to add to the pet.

Mount Equipment can be added or removed in the data pad or use the drag and drop when mount is called. If you remove equipment from a mount it is gone and you must replace it, much like when you dress a NPC vendor, you can not call a mount that is wearing something which you are not the proper profession for, but you can remove what that mount is wearing or store it in you data pad.

this is a pretty good idea..give skill mods to certian types of pets, that would make them desireable to cretian professions...

dancers, medics, dr's, musicians, artisans...anyone who purchases skill enhancing products could be a potential customer..of course the tailors might get upset, and the be's who supply the tailors...

if anytghing it would put ch's in demand for a product some other character could actually use, i would love to see something like this implemented
