I am building my first ever CH and am also working toward Novice Carbineer and Novice Pikeman. I was doing some calcs with the character builder and it appears that with the other basic skills I want I will only be able to focus on either carbine or pike.

Can anyone speak to which of these might better complement the CH profession, and why? I enjoy both of them but must sacrifice one for the CH cause.

Thanks for any info

If you're going to go ranged, I would say Rifleman, since it is arguably one of the top 3 professions in the game in terms of power and awesomeness(campy word,I know). Of course, I am not biased in any way telling you this. Ignore my sig.

However, I would say any ranged profession works very well with CH.

I was all for MCH/Mcarb untill.....A friend and I took a trip to the squill caves. He was a novice BH with carb 2 or 3 in the BH line and some caeb skills. So I pull out 2 pets with AR1 and 60 knet res plus a third with just 60 knet res, he has a lvl 10 cat 10k health and a 60 knet res. Well we proceded to get are arses handed to us beacuse we could not kill them fater than they respawned. We were both buffed and had on the uber comp armor. We did noticed however a lone battle master...........by there lonsesome they were able to clean several areas before the respawns....................I like carbs it is a shame that the carb specials only last at most 3 or 4 seconds, and cripple shot is awesome if it actually hits hard and I will not go into the special costs for carb.......Hopefully the great imballance between mele and ranged professions will be fixed in this "CU"and I can get back to carb......................but for now I will just have to be happy being a TK/sword whore............................

make sure you pick up novice BH and go at least to x-3-x-x for the fire knockdown attack the BH's have. it sets on fire and well duh, knocks down. it's mm mm good !

Phased out MCH.... Theyve nerfed my entire profession. now wt.f do i do? We play online games because we enjoy the immense level of detail and diverse options and the ability to do a near-infinite number of activitites and professions. with every balance more and more of our options are stripped away and the game is slimmed down and streamlined. its currently basically a bugged console game. if i wanted to play a console SW game, i would play the KOTOR series because the knights of the old republic games are fantastic. even lego SW for my son's gamecube is more enjoyable at this point.

Actually, FireKD does NOT set anything on fire. And in terms of KDs, I find that UnderhandShot is more effective (my experience, YMMV).

Let me re-phrase my comment from earlier.

CH + Ranged = Pets help the ranged profession by tanking, they take the brunt of disease, poison, and damage.

CH + Melee =Pets are a nuissance, they run away, require constant attention, and do very little damage.

The only good thing aboutCH + Melee is that the petshelp draw higher paying missions. They really don't contribute to combat very much.

Okay I have an unusual combo, Master Fencer, CH. Now I know it is a Melee, and I will admit, rifle is a better match. But, as a Master Fencer, creatures hit me only 1 out of 5 times, I can do STUN Damage (Wonderful, Beautiful Stun Damage), and when I send my pets in first, they still draw 90% of the aggro. It can get hairy and combat is one big brawl, but it is ALOT if fun! Also, very few creatures have Stun resists.
