The only thing that was "wrong" with CH's pre-publish 5 was that wewere fun to play.... I mean... most of us actually enjoyed our chosen profession whiel other like DE, chefs, nerf herders and the like were broken. TKM was nearly as powerful pre-publish 5 as they are now. The only difference is the damage mitigation, which can be substantial but still msot TKMs i see nowaday don't even let the bull rancors get a hit in before they're kd'd and then dead... The interdependancy that the devs are hung up on is part of what screwed us...

The devs were going to listen to the entertainers and chefs who were calling for us(chs) to be nerfed, and they were also going to finaly help BE become worthwhile... We'll all i can say is what a lovely **cking thing that turned out to be. Not only do we have no worthwhile wild pets, but now we can't even make a credit. It now costs us cash to get a decet pet, but where does our money come from? We can't sell a pet becuase they all suck, we can't do missions like a rifleman, TKM and any other elite comabt profession can so how do we get it? Can we start taking bank loans? Last i checked i couldn't... The devs need to start a food stamp program for us now, we oviously can't support ourselves in the current setup. It would've been more beneficial if they would've left stats alone, raised the CLs like they did, and also have made the changes to BE. But as it is, we have nothing. I'm lucky i made my credits pre-publish 5 or i seriously would be living mission by mission, escpecially with the increased need for pet stims.

And also... the devs need to do something about that stench that follows BEs around. Everytime i see one my lip curls and the hair on the back of my neck stands up.

There is one thing I do not understand about this discussion. To become Master CH all you need is 105 skill points. That leaves you with 145 skill points to invest in other professions. I have Master CH character that's almost Master Carbineer and I'm not complainingabout my fighting abilities. You say TKM can easily beat CH? How about a CH that's also a TKM? Or even Combat Medic (CH+Combat Medic is a combination I'm very tempted to try myself). You can combine ANY Elite combat profession with Master CH. Some hybrids you can't, but it's all matter of balance. I love my pets, I love the adventure aspect of CH profession and I do use my pets in fight and they give me an edge over non CH combatants. With Carbine you are the most effective at certain range from your target. My pack of pets does just that, keeping targets away for me to kill them.

So invest your 145 remaining skill points wisely and you will not need to complain about being weak in PvP or PvE.

I do enjoy being CH! If devs could only fix annoying mount bugs introduced at publish 6....I will be very happy camper.

now I'm very sympathetic to the creature handler's plight....

but a 65% buff nerf is NOT the answer:

1) in PVP I'm still going to kill your pet in incredibly short order (after I kill you , of course) even if I have no buff at all.

2) in PVE it would shoot CH rightback to the top, and then more nerf pain would come to you.

I think what would really help for PvP would be to take away the 75% dmg reduction for pets.

As far as PvE, if pets just followed attack commands better and didnt run all over the place (perhaps a "stand-and-fight" command) then I'd probably still be a CH

a buff nerf would help actually

and 1/ unless he has a good 2nd prof like TKM in which case he should kick your ass but then not many ppl do pvp with pets so ur safe there hehe

and 2/ CH should be better than it is in PvE if its not meant to be a PvP prof

and I'd agree with that to tho I am still a MCH

The problem with Ch is that creatures can't be buffed like players can, and thus are simply not as useful in combat.

Pets can be buffed, but they lose the buff if they are stored. Try buffing a high level pet's constitution and stamina (the regen secondaries). I use a buffed gurreck for hunting on Dathomir quite frequently. It can take on 2-3 enraged rancors without breaking a sweat. I wouldn't recommend hunting big game with purely MCH and no other combat skills, because pets take much longer to deal out damage than a player with an elite combat profession.

I don't disagree that buffing changes the game, and that current buffs may be too powerful, but CH isn't left in the dark because of this. Buffs are useful for us too, and if they make it so that pets retained buffs for their entire duration even if they are stored (or autostored ), I think we would be sitting pretty vis-a-vis buffs.

Enhancing creatures through faster/more damaging attacks, state resistances, etc. is something I think would help us out a lot, but I think that there needs to be some cost involved. I think that if embolden/enrage were enhanced, and other pet commands added, all with reasonable HAM cost to the CH, we would get a boost, and things could be kept balanced so that masters of both CH and an elite combat profession wouldn't instantly become the new "uber" combo.

no matter what prof you combine w/ MCH, I will still be able to build a non-CH template that will murder you in PvP. period. I was considering all things being equal. For example, if I were a master rifleman / master swordsman, and you were a TKM / MCH, your death would be assured in any PvP encounter where we were equally prepared. adding or subtracting buffs from that equation would make no difference. Dual combat class and/or "temploits" have enough inherent defenses to render any pet an MCH can control quite ineffective when the 75% rule is in play.

2/ CH should be better than it is in PvE if its not meant to be a PvP prof

I dont have a problem with that, but everybody else will (and did)

Agreed.

I would also like to see CH/MCH more effective and most effective in PvE since running mundane missions is truly our only means of income, that and collecting hide/bone/meat, but Master Scouts and Master Rangers are far more effectiveat eventhat.

PvP isn't that much of a concern to me, if it were, I would have taken Rifleman/Fencer or TKM/Swordsman, etc.

Fine. Now let's make it so a TKM also has to pick up Master Marksman to be effective.

There is no reason that a character should have to rely on supporting one profession with another, unrelated profession. ESPECIALLY at master.

My character is an upcoming CH with a spattering of Marksman skills and Master Entertainer. Now had I chosen any other profession, I could have kept that Master Entertainer. As it is, I'm going to have to sacrifice my Mandoviol or my pets.

I could be a TKM and use Mandy. I could be a Smuggler and use Mandy. I can't be a CH and use Mandy. See the problem yet?

A few things I have to say...

I have wanted to be and been a CH since not long after release..I mastered sometime in late August or early September, and have been master since (with the exception of dropping two branches for mastering Commando for my one holo which I actually completed, but I picked it up again A.S.A.P. after I picked up the Master Commando box and dropped it two seconds late ). I have seen the nerfs, dealt with them, and been greatly aggravated by them. I must admit that there were some nerfs that I view more as fixes (i.e., a novice CH using a rancor, or a Master using three rancor or three medium-armor gurrecks), but the majority have been incredibly unnecessary and, I believe, were clearly intended to just make us suck.

I remember when everyone in the freaking galaxy had at least Novice Creature Handler, or a branch or two, in addition to the Bounty Pistol line or some other powerful template. I didn't quite like that everyone was running around with beasts following them around, as it truly did not seem very much like Star Wars. And we were powerful back then..and our numbers were great. That was when more nerfs came in, intended to decrease the usefulness of the profession entirely, and thus lowered the population of Creature Handlers due to the massive sucky-ness bestowed upon us. It is now rare to see anyone with a creature following them around...but now you see a whole lot more people carrying rifles bigger than a rancor in size, and people busting out Bruce Lee moves around every corner while simultaneously looking like Robo Cop on ecstasy. Though they have barely been touched, nerf-wise..and when encountered with any of our beasts, they dispose of them in a timely fashion, with or without buffs..even the freak-of-nature bio-engineered ones. So if you ask me, it's "Un-Star Warsy" for folks to be whooping on our titans like they're freaking Superman.

So it is not necessarily a problem with us (in PvP, that is)..it is a problem with them. Before, with the CL calling limitations, our power was significantly reduced, but we could still compete (the tree revamp was also neeto)..although the DOT problem, with Commandos mostly, made everyone migrate to Commando, thus making our pets screwed in every PvP encounter. But that has been fixed...however, now the statistics of our wild pets have been butchered, and with peoples' 80% base composite (more specifically kinetic), 3k HAM (ish), and the ability to beat the shat out of anything we throw at them without being scratched, our pets are nothing more than a 5-second distraction..if not less. But complaining about it isn't going to do anything but help us all vent..if anything's going to happen to CH, it's definitely going to cause it to become weaker. They throw us a few bones here and there that seem fantastic, such as our "uber rare pets", which happen to be just about as sucky as the rest of them.

So buckle up, my friends..being a CH is a rough ride. Those of us still loyal to the profession will be continually called, "Pokeman trainers", and laughed at for keeping a profession even less pointless and stupid than Image Designer. /sigh...And the only solutions I can think of that would possibly make us viable again (even though they, or any other solutions, would be implemented by our all-knowing devs) would just piss everyone else off for making them un-invincible again. And meh..we aren't even a good "support class" as we are.

On a different note, it has been my experience that pets do not have a 75% PvP damage reduction..they hit for as much as the combat log says they do vs. an unarmored opponent, but they rarely, if ever, hit for what their actual Damage stat says they're supposed to, whether it be in PvP or PvE.

Personally i think that the devs have no clue on how to fix the bugs in the code related to CH, thus the posturing - "we like ch'er the way it is, its working good, go shutupand smoke yer crack(rare pet hunt)"

BAH.

We do need to keep in mind this game is very complicated. The code has to be huge. And Jaessa prob has some big wig tellin' her to lock threads and such. At least I hope thats the story. It wouldn't hurt to throw us a lil' TLC once in a while tho. Even drop by and say hello. Maybe listen to a few suggestions.
