There is no filter for duplicate pet names. You can name all your pets the same name. When I gave a Rock Beetle to my friend I had it named Ringo. I then tamed a new one and named it Ringo as well, and he changed his to Ringo II afterwards. So for a time we had two separate Ringos. That was wayyyyyyy back before everyone had a Rock Beetle.
