Check this out:

Night before last I had a pet named " extasy ", (note the deliberate misspelling of the word).

It was paired with another cat Inamed " agony ".Get it? Extasy and Agony? Anyway, I log in last night and the dev's or some higher being I guess have determined the word somehow offensive or something, they changed it to:" trick ".

Now, where I come from the word " trick " is much more offensive than the word Ecstasy....

Ecstasy:

1. State of elated Bliss.

2. Carried away by overwhelming emotion.

3. The drug.

I assume thepossible drug refence is why they changed it, but come on, " Trick " ??? Sheesh! I wonder if I can name a pet " Hoe " ? SinceI like towork in the garden after all...............

I'd name a mount with no special attacks 'trick'... As in 'one trick pony'. One person's offensive material is another person's completely innocent thought. Unless you KNOW that the person used 'trick' as a sexual reference, it's just a word.

The CSRs seem to be exceptionally skittish about drug references. Only perceived racial epithets get more attention, in my experience. For example, you cannot refer to a "ch!nk" in someone's armor, for fear of it being misinterpreted as a racial epithet.

Tazz vonMannstein Baron-Administrator of Corellia, master navigator of Corellia, captain of the Gregarious Gurreck

Sio Babble MBH/MCH/Cabana Boy; master of Tyson, the GNORT OF DEATH

Jeffn Akbar Nerfed from here to Lok MD/MCM

Zanti Agaesia Bothan MBE, 12 point Master Chef, Havoc Squadron Ace pilot

Quite ironic given the fact that my ingame name (Opiam) was one that SWG randomly generated for me

the limitations are insanely broad, so much more then what is commonly accepted as offensive. I'm lucky I'm accustomed to British english so I can swear all I want, since they don't filter out 'buggar', 'sod off' or 'bleedin' ', which has pretty much EXACTLY the same intention as the common American terms that are always bleeped out.

On a side note, can someone describe in cryptic terms how 'trick' or '**edit**' is in any way offensive, cause I'mnot a native English speaker and honestly don't have a clue.

Not to mention being from the Netherlands means my birthright is to be pretty light about what one considers offensive. If you hit yourself with a hammer when hitting a nail in the wall, it doesn't matter if you swear or say goshdarnit really loud, you're sure as hell meaning it offensively

add: perhaps as a protest we can all rename our less-important pets to names like Opiam or darnit or heck. I mean there's only so much prudishness we can put up with before our creative name-giving starts suffering from it

Im from NZ and it was such a relief when the word "bugger" was not edited when I first said it ingame. We say it her in the same context as "damn" which I was amazed gets edited

Goat, a "trick" is a service provided by a prostitute. They are said to be "turning tricks" when they are working.

I'm going to guess the edit was for ch!nk, which is a racial slur against Chinese people, yet also refers to a small chunk taken out of something, or a dent, such as a ch!nk in your armor.

I know someone whose petN!p (with partner Tuck) was changed since N!p is a slur against the Japanese. Not to mention that's what animals DO is n!p, of course . . . . *shrugs*

Hey, wow looks like pokemon is off the censor list. I found it funny that christmass gets the christ part bleeped out.

I've also seen a number of NPCs that have part of thier name sensored. Too funny.

yeah, the edit was for ch!nk, and if I recall correctly, 'jew' gets blurred out as well. I mean, isn't that in itself a discrimination to judaism? What about all the people of that religion who want to answer truthfully when asked 'gee, what religion are you?'

I think Im gonna call my next tame Damien, followed by Byalzebub, Mowzes and perhaps jebus kryst for a dwarf nuna. Alright, I probably won't, but the idea makes me smirk for a second.

Hey, when it comes to those, doesn't that possibly run in to the "World of StarWarsCharacter Names" junk? You know, like not being able to call your pet "Luke".

Or is there a filter in place, in case someone else's pet already has that name?
