Of course someone does one star this thread all the same. If you're not for making creature handler an uber combat class you're doomed to get one star. I'll give you a few stars for being honest and expressing your opinion well.

To address the basis of the post I'd have to say if you're using creature handler to climb another profession then yes, you're probably right. Creature handler works just fine. The problem is you're main objective is the other profession. You don't see the failings of creature handler because your other combat class makes up for it.

I'm a bio-engineer. BE is hugely skill point intensive. I have master creature handler because, like most people here, I love my animals. I have an array of animals that span the creature levels and I use all of them. It all depends on the lair I'm fighting and if I'm in a group. Having said that, I have no other combat profession to gloss over the failings of creature handler. Creature handler is my combat. You could very easily give up creature handler and do very well in combat with your TKA or commando or pistoleer. If you gave up TKA or pistoleer and had only creature handler you'd be singing a different tune I'll guarantee it.

I think you missed the point... I was a master ch AND master TK at the same time.. thats a whole lot of power and never taking damage means i can kill far longer without a rest. as for them stealing xp... they dont do nearly as much damage as you or I with out chosen weapon.

If your a master TK exp isnt a issue.... As far as power goes... yeah thats power... But, You can do more without being a master ch by adding more defenses even with the defense cap in place. They would also allow more weapons to choose from so you run into less targets that have that really high resisit to your weapon. An you clearly still outdamage the pet so that in most areas... that pet really didnt make it a life or death issue. Anything that would have flat out killed in combat.. would have shearded a pet quicker. An I would have lived longer just flat out not being a ch in that case and picking other skills to better my offense and defense.

12k HAM, 50% kinetic, 510-520 damage hermit spider falls to a TKM in a matter of seconds. My only problem with CH is that it is totally worthless in PvP...I'd at least like it if I didn't have vitality loss for suiciding a pet (that is, having it enter any PvP scenario). It is, after all, a unique combat class..and I'd say at this point, we need even more fixing than those poor Pikemen.

I think what this boils down to is how you perceive the profession (the responses to the original post were revealing).

If you regard CH as a primary combat skill then indeed, it is utterly useless and borked beyond redemption.

If you regard CH as a secondary combat capability, complimenting a primary ranged weapon skill for PvE then it works just fine.

Pets at present operate as independantly targetable weapons systems which will function whilst the operator utilises thier primary combat skill - pretty darned useful when looked at in that light.

So darned useful in fact that they've been nerfed into oblivion as regards PvP - the reasoning behind that I suspect is that if pets were any use in PvP then every participant in the GCW would be an MCH (pretty much the situation pre-publish 5).

If you take a melee combat skill as your primary then there are better complimentry skills you can take in preference to CH (notably Doctor).

If you operate in a coherent group with a wide range of skilled members then, again, there are more useful skills you can take for secondary combat - the pet's contribution is effectively neutralised by the other group member's combat/tanking abilities.

Pets are truely excellent when used solo, PvE, backing up a ranged combat skill. They really do shine in this role. The people saying "My pets work fine for me" are probably almost all using them in thisway (including myself incidentally).

If you operate in any other manner, then they are rubbish and a waste of skill points. The people saying "Pets and the CH profession arecrap now" have a combination of wanting to PvP, want to use CH as thier primary combat skill, use a melee skill as thier primary combat ability or operate primarily in groups (this covers athe majority of players!).

This I think is the situation as it is now. If you are into solo PvE with ranged weapons then CH is a truelyexcellent choice.

If not, forget it.

They i have to say Ryyger what exactly are you complaining about.. All i said is that Creature handler makes a great complimentary profession. If you didnt want to be one whats with the post and the one star? By the way doctor has 77 prerequisite points while CH only has 43. And if you plan on leaving town for any length of time to fight anything at all.. the prereqs for ch are kinda hany, like mask scent and terrain negotiation and harvesting bonuses etc. Creatures are meant to compliment combat classes... a dancer or doctor with a rancor along side of him/her is deffinately a waste of skill points... i thought it was appearant that I was talking about complimenting combat classes.. If not I'll state that here.

Again, learn to spell and use grammar, you are going to be better recieved.

I'm saying that even novice medic is a better support than CH. I'm saying that the 'logic' SOE and you are using to support the diminishment of the class is flawed. I'm saying that a profession should not rely on any other profession save its starting counterparts.

CH is a combat-oriented profession. No other combat-oriented profession in the game requires another combat-oriented profession to be viable. That you seem unable to see that is scary.

Live and learn. You're not allowed to have an opposing view point. If you don't agree with the crying masses you're doomed to a life of one stars.

Miq Everyone,

CH was never supposed to be a COMPLIMENTARY profession. Get it. Elite Combat profession is where we started. Now we are talking "oh geez isn't CH a nice complimentary profession to rifleman, commando, etc."

How would TKA like to hear, "oh TKA is a nice Complimentary profession to medic" Or "CM is a nice complimentary profession to architect". DUH guys combat Elite Combat is where we started, now we are "complimentary " profession. Give me a break. Up to Dec. I didn't have a complimentary profession to CH, i was an entertainer. My pets did just fine, nice weapon. Post Dec. first thing I did was drop entertainer and in one day of work got my Commando 0 0 4 0 and now CH is a nice compliment to my flame thrower, What a load of well horse apples.

....and then no matter how hard we get nerfed, we still keep CH because we are still some of the coolest characters on the game.

the problem with CH being a standalone combat elite profession is that we have 144 more skill points to use...

this alows the MCH to simultaenously wield two elite combat professions. to offset that HUGE advantage the devs would liekly have to increase the pre-requisites to eat up those skill points such as requiring the CH to first master ranger before starting the path of CH leaving only a few points to dabble with at MCH. only in such a fashion would we be given true combat elite power. as CH stands now they are NOT going to allow us to dual wield professions.

An alternative to that is to give CH an item to hold that PREVENTS the use of another combat skill at the same time.

If you don't return the pre-nerf animal stats, removing the ability to use another combat profession would truly kill off creature handler completely.

Ok, you first say that a proffesion should not have to rely on any other profession other than its starting counter parts. Then you go on to say that Creature handler is a combat based profession. So explain to me how you figure scout is a combat based proffesion. If it were then I may be inclined to agree with you but I find it hard to believe that you could convince 10 players that scout is anything other than a support base. That being the case and based on YOUR LOGIC (relying only on its starting counter parts). Creature handler was never meant to be anything other than a support class... put that in your pipe and smoke it. BTW if you weren't so intent on just whining and trying to sound superior by attempting to flame a man with an opinion maybe you would have noted the flaws in your thoughs. I have to say I cant realy figure out where your coming from. How long have you actually played this class. Are you even a CH at all. What exactly do you want to see from the class? If you are attempting to say that the creatures should be far more powerful than they are and should be a viable combat class able to stand up in pvp then i ask you how balanced it would be if that were the case and you could take that viable pvp class and couple it with TK AND Pistol.
