Thread: Mounted Combat I want it back!

They've stonewalled us on this since the CU no matter how often our Correspondent has asked about it. I can only interpret that to mean they're not going to fix it and they don't want to tell us.

Only CH should have mounted COMBAT......I mean we can control our pets, we are the handlers, right?.. I like the idea that you get pet terrain negotiation and speed as you level CH... that would help, this way a master has fast moving mounts that he can battle on, making mounts 100X more useful. And when a CH is on a mount, the CH doesnt get hit (unless the enemy uses area attacks) until the mount is incaped, this way they function as sort of a tank, unlike speeders. They should NOT slow down for combat and the gallop timer should increase as you go up the CH tree as well, from like 30 seconds to 2 min gallop.







I don't feel comfortable with the idea of an unhittable rider. That sounds too much like a return of the "meat shield" issue. The logical thing to me would be to lobby for some sort of split ratio between what actually gets hit when an enemy attacks a mounted rider. Perhaps the single target (either the rider or the mount) could be targeted manually by using the TAB key, or -- at least theoretically -- by clicking on one of them with the mouse arrow, but a precise mouse click on a moving target would be difficult.


At any rate, I'm thinking some sort of modifier on whether the shooter hits the object he has targeted or the other object (rider or mount) could either be done with a simple 50-50 split or made more complex, with modifiers based on the relative size of the mount vs. the rider's size, and attacker accuracy modifiers factored in. And maybe some mounts might be more fragile while carrying a rider -- such as flying mounts, if they're ever implemented. This would be a tradeoff for the higher speed and battlefield vision gained by riding a flyer in combat.

Yeah, basic attacks only for non-CH's -- but has anyone noticed that CH's get no special attacks for themselves in our profession tree? Mounted-combat specials would fit nicely in either the Management branch (the home of the "Train Pet As Mount" skill) or the Empathy branch. After all, it took a lot of training to get war horses used to combat, both in the middle ages and in the age of firearms.

It would make sense that a CH would fight better while mounted than when standing on his own two feet.

I don't care about having specials, I just want to be able to shoot at things while mounted. For the brief time it was allowed, fighting from the back of my Humbaaba gave an amazing view of everything around, especially in crowded areas.

DRIVEBYES!!!

I want to pull ^ on people... to balance it maybe we could do specials but they would only do 1/2 the normal damage. Or as a novice ch maybe we could get a move called mounted shot and then at master we could get mounted shot improved. This shot wouldnt be that damaging or fast but it could be used while mounted.

I'd be happy with just the default /attack for the weapon you are holding. Just...for once...
to be able to pull the trigger of my flame thrower or heavy lightning rifle when those
snakes in Kkowir forest slows down my Varactyl or Bolotaur.


I'm not a CH by the way, but I do miss mounted combat. Oh, and I was CH for about 4-5
months on Farstar. Happy times.

How many creatures feel threatened and SLOW DOWN? Well, OK, there are some nutter beasts in the real world but most -=run like hell!!!=-


Varyag, 4-4-4-4 CH and minor other stuff like Commando etc, Wanderhome
