I find it goes faster in a grinding group... especially if there is at least one CL 80. Also, grinding 2 or 3 low CL pets at the same time seems faster to me.

That said, if you have a choice between two creatures with the same ability, use the lower level one.

If you end up grinding a real low level pet, tank for it. The hardest part about grinding a CL 1 pet is that it gets incapped... a lot!

If you are hunting solo with a low level pet (CL 20 or lower) get the level 15 missions that the newbie towns have on their terminals and grind on them... with your pet ungrouped. You can grind 2 or 3 pets at a time this way.

If you have a pet of a decent CL and a lower level pet that you can call at the same time, you can take normal missions for your CL and get both decent pet xp and decent ch xp.

Have your pets attack lairs once they are empty.

and use a CDEF pistol for the really low (less than 10) stuff so it will live long enough for your pet to get a hit in. I initate the attack with the pistol then let my pet finish off the MOB if its health is less than half. If not I shoot it till the health is low then sic the pet on it.

Shooting the MOB till the health is low works well for higher lvl MOBs and bigger guns too.

I raise low level critters fighting Varactyl and Bantha on Kashykk.

/hero aerontako!!! i was trying and trying to think of a reliable source of critters around level 20 to fight today, since i have all of the L1 abilities (except pin) tamed now and need to spend time learning the rest before i tame any more. kashyyyk is a *great* idea that hadn't occurred to me, tons of the stuff the right level there, no running around /sighing at silly level 5 mobs that won't do me any good. trying this now, and yes there are no lairs with their big exp bonus but at the rate the pets and i are killing nonstop with no running around, it's faster overall than what i was doing. thank you!!!

I have Novice Ranger, CL58, so I'm alloud to wear Recon armor. I have no room for combat skills in my template, but I have a decient healing abeality. I was only a novice healer though, have a few more healing skills now, and was still able to heal myself faster than the varactyl or bantha could hurt me, even if I aggro a group of them. I just pulled out a rifle with decient damage and I could get themaround 75% health by the time they actually reached me. I attack, wait for the creature to be within melie range, then tell my pets to attack. If the pet has a special attack abeality, I assign it my default attack command so they use it when they first strike.

I guess that works for L1 commands.. but for L3 you are stuck with 1 pet at a time. Im personally not even bothering with anything under L2 or L3 until I have all the ones I want.

i'm going the exact opposite way, i started with L1s since i knew i couldn't train L2 or L3 until i had learned L1. i now have all 24 L1s (not counting pin cuz it would drive me nuts) and working on L2s.

Well Im not even training ANY pets with new abilities until I have all the ones I want. So Im starting with the "harder" ones first then working my way back. Once I have all the trainable abilities I care to get I will go out and find the actual creatures I want to use as 'permanent' pets.
