Thread: Oppinion Poll: Why are you still a Master CH?
I'm still an MCH.... but I no longer play. I grew too attached to my pet companions. It killed me to have to let any one of them go. Iwantto always have an MCH toon so that I could play with them again whenever I wanted. But given the state of the profession, I can't forsee wanting to play with themagain because it's just too painful to try. It's better for me to leave my MCH "frozen in carbonite" than to continue to beat my head against the wall that is the Devs in frustration.
It's all about the critters.
I'm rapidly grinding my way to the point where Tazz will have the Jedi path opened to him. I've never been interested in PvP because so much PvP is the realm of asshats. But Jedi is all about PvP. I may just unlock the second slot and stop. And develop that new character into an MCH so that Tazz's menagerie can be transfered over if he elects to do flashlight stuff.
OTOH, this game has been in a death spiral of dumbing down ever since the CU, so the whole thing may be pointless. So much potential, so brutally betrayed by giving short termmarketing concerns dominionand poor decisions by management, along with abysmal quality assurance.
Now I have no interest in grinding anything else. What's the point, the new profession is either just as broken now or would BE broken in a new Publish by the time I Mastered it.
Love the pets, hate what's been done to them.
I'm not, I dropped it to see if the rest of the game had any point to it anymore... found out it doesn't =(
this is a very interesting question...and i suppose i should preface my reply by saying my main is no longer a mch..the 2xp week made jedi an interesting option, and several long(18hr..vacation fell on 2xp week..lol)days of grinding , my main is now a master defender, my alt is working toward my former temp of rifle/ch,,,,,,and i will try to explain why
it has been said by many that ch is one of the first profession many players master, the asthetic appeal of the pets is very attractive to those who are new to the game..and i see this while grinding my alt. dant mo is the grinding hotspot on my server and bol missions take a few minutes to find, as everyone wanting xp is doing them. i see new players asking if they can harvest because they need scout xp to be a ch..i often find this amusing because they don't realize that all the scouts can harvest, and they require no permission, hehe
the thing is, i now understand why you get an alt with jedi...it's because you can't really do anything with a jedi without inevitable bh confrontations..jedi and bh are almost purely pvp professions (of course bh's can't be unexpectedly ganked), and pvp has never eclipsed pve for me..i do pvp when i have to, and i have to a lot now..fortunately mdef makes me difficult to bring down. when i can do pvethe jediis virtually undefeatabe..the other night i was with some non jedi friends and helping with the sirens quest, the one where the room full of blackscale teandoshans (81) are..my jedi tanked the whole lot with mind control, force aura, and spins..ancient krayts are just as easy..bh's not so much
swg gives you an alt with jediso you can walk around the galaxy paronoia free..now i just want my old temp back..i really don't see a combat use for ch, if anything it made my rifle lvl 80, and driods pulled more effectivly than pets..droids seem to avoid aggro better than pets..i was a ch since aug 04, after the nerf of 03, but still in a time when finding a rare was an accomplishment. i spent weeks of 2 buff session daysfinding a bull rancor, and long drawn out hunts for gps's, arachne widow's, mantigrue screechers, malignant squills, and wild dune boars..most of these are extinct now, or much easier to find..i think the days of killing 3k adults to spawn a baby are over..
i have eluded to the fact that pets are not an effective combet tool, but neither are rare loot items, and i have collected tham as well..i want ch for just my own personal need to have thing i enjoy, not as a combat utility
i expect the ch grind to be long. with rifle for example, a player tank can aoe the mobs and you can hit each one and get xp for each. now with ch a pet only responds to the initial target, that is to say you can't "attack" 5 mobs and get xp for each, the pet will stay with the inital target, or run off
still i wat to be able to call the pets i have in my jedi's datapad , so my alt is going ch..ive done most of the content in the game so far, much without pets, just a good group and a rifle..so the ch is just for me, not for combat
i understand the devs not wanting ch to be as effective as other combat professions, it has appeal without effectiveness..if it had effectiveness then it would be fotw, and you would get a single digit framerate in a populated area because of all the pets called..
basiclly i just like having pets..i don't hold out for the day ch is effective, as i doubt that day will come, i just like ch for my own enjoyment, no more, no less
Because it annoys the devs that we MCH are still here and playing DESPITE what they keep doing to our profession and I love my ickle friends ![]()
oh.. and it's fun to run through noob town screaming "RUN FOR YOUR LIVES..... THERES A RANCOR ON THE LOOSE!" mwahaha ![]()
I have been thinking on this since the first day you posted this thread...
I have come to the conclusion ... I don't know ![]()
When I look around seems that on most all forums people are upset an leaving the game...
A better question might be why are you sill paying for this game.....
Thanks for starting this tread at least it took my mind off the latest and future nerfs for a bit...
I started down the ch path not long after I started playing in Fall of '03. After taming a lesser
Dewback which i promptly named after our cat Scampers my goal was to work my way up to
someday be able to train it to be a mount. That day was one of the best I ever experienced in the
game...now I'm a MCH and have lost count of all the mounts I've trained for friends and strangers.
Like you my pets are more than bits of data in a pad - they are my friends, my companions on those
lonely nights camping out in the wilds of some godforsaken planet or in the middle of a vast desert.
I have enjoyed sharing my creature knowledge with the community new and old -(surprised how little
even some long time veterans still don't know about pets.) The cheers of those who are able to take
full advantage of thier pets natural and be'd after I've trained them has been most rewarding.
I also love to pull out my special pets- the kimo, the graul, the rancor and gsp and relish the reactions
of those around - It's not that I'm UBER nor-have I wanted to be but this is just flat out fun and COOL.
I don't want to rule the universe but I do want to keep my pets.
And I guess I truely am a Rebel cause for the last 2 years people have told me "why don't you drop
CH and get a REAL profession?" That just made me even more determined to prove them wrong
when the developers finally fixed CH -Now Im beginning to think they were right all along.
