Greetings all,
I'm sure some of you guys have seen me around on Chilastria, or here on the boards. And I'm sorry, but I just have to ask. I know that it is just another dumb time sink, but I just find the amount of flames regarding the new timer incredible. Is our society that anxious that they cannot wait 30 seconds? 30 seconds is nothing. This change is saving us the need to make camps, but making it about the same as before. Those who said that they could set a camp up and call a pet in less than 30 seconds, I'd just like to see that. If anything, it takes more than 30 seconds for the normal Creature Handler.
I know that virtually no one that I play with carries camps on them at all times, they create one when they need it. That being said, it usually takes about a minute or so to go through the whole crafting, setting up, and calling a pet.
I'm not saying that I agree with the timer in any way. But can someone please tell me why this is such a heated topic. I say, great! I don't have to waste resources on camps and such.

Actually you can buy crates of camps. Only thing nice is that it will the remove the need to spend that point in scout skills, but majority of the players who has scout mainly use it for terrain negotiation.

And like the previous player says, the fact you can make camps while waiting... not only that but you can macro craft camps, so in the end it's actually faster.

I bet you I could make a camp and set it up in 10 sec if I get a crafting macro setup. Not only that, but think, the 30 sec starts to accumulate... so in one day you could spend about 20 min total just calling pets out. that 20min can be used for something else, course 20 min I'm guessing would apply to someone who plays a lot.

Maelas,

The problem is we campaigned long and hard to have the campsite requirement removed, because it was such a pointless timesink. It was removed, but replaced with TWO new timesinks.

With precrafted camp kits, when my group arrives at a mission I already find they'll just go ahead and start the fight without me, while I go set up my camp and call my pet(s). With a flat 30 second delay, I'll get to watch while the fight unfolds, as I sit there humming the Warcraft theme music.

Even worse, if something took a disliking to me and tried to attack me on the way there, I've got an additional sixty second timer to wait out before I can even start my thirty second timer.

Meanwhile, my group members are happily switching to the most appropriate weapon for their targets' resists, throwing armour on and off as the situation requires, all without delays.

Sure would suck if a Musician had to wait 30 seconds before their instrument equipped, just in case they used it to grief someone!

The whole group thing might be improved though, Ekhben.

I wouldn't be surprised if you could call a pet thirty seconds before getting to the mission and when you dismount your vehicle, poof, there's your pet. This is speculation, but hopefully that will be how it works.

33 seconds from the time I opened my inventory, crafted a camp, called two pets and had them group with me. I could subtract 18 from that time if I hadn't crafted a camp. If it's taking you a full minute to craft and deploy a camp before calling pets, you're doing something wrong.

It has nothing to do with impatience. It has to do with wanting to *play* the game instead of *wait* for the game. The 30 second wait serves no good purpose. I don't rush in, I usually have my pet out already and have coordinated a solid plan of attack. When my pet gets worn out from too much tanking, I don't wanna have to tell everyone to wait 30 more seconds wile I call a pet. I'll continue to whip up camp, call pet and be ready in 20. It's called "not making others wait", esp if I happen to be AFK, get back, everyone's ready and I have to say "We gotta wait another 30 seconds while Icall a pet". Furthermore, when I'm training my lower level so they grow faster, calling those 5-10 pets can add up quickly if I have to wait for each. There is simply no reason to impose a 30 second wait. It affords no advantage to anyone. It's simply a "wait for waiting's sake". And when you spend most of the day working and get home, spend time with your wife and kid, then want to play the game for an hour, waiting 30 seconds serves no good purpose. Esp if you're training BH and go through several pets in a night. This game makes a person wait too long on incidentals as it is. 10 minutes for a shuttle here, 60 seconds to store a pet after a PvE battle is over, etc. I've probably spent a good 5 hours of the past two weeks *waiting*. This is time I want to be playing.

I am more patient than you can fathom. When you have a 3-year old, then you can comment on patience... I am not, however, patient on a virtual game that serves no legitimate purpose other than to create enjoyment. When I come home to enjoy myself, I do not feel like waiting on something I *pay a monthly fee* to use, esp when it's apparent that more thought went into this *nerf* than has gone into how to fix the numerous *more important* bugs in the game. There just isn't a legitimate reason for this, so it's not worth the code. Heck, the idea of needing a camp to call a pet in the first place was silly. You should even be able to call them while fighting. Pets don't help in PvP and all they do is slow PvE down while you wait for them.

Why don't you try giving a *good* reason other than "to learn patience" with this.

PS If you're still figuring out strategy, you're the poor player. It's not like this game is rocket-science. With the exception of some of the harder missions, it's terribly formulaic and you could almost macro your way through it.

PPS As for searching for a site, haven't done that in forever. It's not like you learn how far out to be after dropping 10-20 camps. Or maybe you didn't learn that. Hmmm...

Ok, so don't use the 30 second timer, continue to use camps if you can't wait.

All I'm saying is, Maelas, you tell me, why they even put it in. TH said cause of griefing. Okay, how does the griefing come into play? If somehow you can prove to the CH (and non-ch) that the 30 second does have it's reason, then yes, I would understand. If not, then it's pointless trying to prove someone otherwise.

And yes, it's possible to setup camp in about 10 sec and call out a pet with a crafting macro. If you ever used a crafting macro, it's pretty fast, especially with the fact it skips a lot of steps. The delay is usually when you have to click on the next button. The only delay in the crafting macro is when you have to manually put in the resources, which take less then 2 sec to do, then let the macro go on, 3 sec to make the basic camp. Look in inventory, double click, camp up, get datapad up, call pet out (and we all know the call pet feature is bugged, which needs to be fixed).

Overall I guess maybe takes 15 second total cause of the call pet delay bug. Either way, it's less then 30 sec, that's all I know.

Nope. You won't be able to call pets while mounted or on a vehicle.

Yeah, that's true, mounted... I still don't think it'll be that much of a bother. I'm not saying that I agree with the timer. That is not the thing. My whole point is that I feel like people are just complaining about this to complain about something. I really dislike people just flaming the Devs and Vert every single time, no matter if it's a good or bad change. Oh well.

Doesn't that seem a little wrong? We asked for a long time for the campsite restriction to be lifted, only it didn't get lifted, it got replaced with an even worse system... and now we're supposed to be happy that they'll let us use the old system we spent so much time hating?

poster the problem is all that has changed is the type of annoying restriction. before it was camps and having to pull them out or make or buy them then using them to get a pet/vehicle. ok, so now they have just changed it to waiting 30 seconds. the reason everyone is so upset is because all the camps werewas a time sink, and guess what 30 seconds is? more waist of time. we wanted to get ride of camps to get ride of the annoyance and bs. but instead it hasnt been removed just changed forms. maybe when they do what we actually want there wont be pissed off people and flaming. there is still no good reason for the delay, there is no way to exploit if there was no delay. im still waiting for a good excuse for the delay, but i fear i will never get one because there is no good excuse plain and simple.

The 60 second delay after battle was the penalty they gave for CH... and made sense. Prevented CH from storing a creature the instant it gets in trouble, or having him switch to another pet once the pet's almost dead popping out a brand new full health pet.

LIKE I SAID, UNLESS YOU CAN GIVE US A REASON WHY THEY DID IT, THEN I WILL NOT BOTHER RESPONDING to your post. Otherwise, just give up. It's not just something to flame about, it's the fact that this is more of another annoyance placed on the CH. If it's not broken, then don't fix it.

I'm sure there are several reasons. One of the most important is pet autostore in battle.

Another I realized recently is below.

Direct scenario that will get a player killed because of the 30 sec delay.

I am traveling in the wild. I see a player in trouble. I go to help him. I call my pets and start shooting(btw if I initiate the call and then enter battle is the call blocked? a small but vital detail.) 20 sec later the Player is dead and the MOBs are after me. 10 sec later my first pet appears. I try to issue the kill command. Just as my attacker incaps me. The attacker(s) now DB's the player and me. So sad. Pet sits there till I call it back into the data pad.

Variation 2 is there are multiple attackers and even though the pet gets out in time for me to issue the kill and we kill all the rest the player got DB'd by one of the attackers I wasn't shooting at/shooting at me.

And don't bother to tell me that I might have been killed with insta-call anyway. I rather not have it rubbed in how much lower our combined strenths are these days.
